dev/kvm is not found issue / enable VT-x in bios - android

Today i installed emulator and HAXM update from Android Studio SDK manager. After that i can not start my emulator.
Please note -
I had my emulator working before.
I have enable VT-x tech in bios.
I have disabled security boot.
and tried all answers which i found.
Any help is really appreciated!

After doing some research on this. Finally i solved it out.
Even i have enable VT-X tech and disabled secure boot. My Android Studio failed to load emulator saying dev/kvm not found.
This issue came after updating HAXM. I found some useful answers. which tell this issue is in HAXM 7.2.0. See this issue on github
Steps to solve:
Uninstall Haxm from SDK manager.
downloaded previous version of HAXM v7.1.0 from this release page.
Install this HAXM.
Now everything should work fine as before.

HAXM Install Will Not Detect Enabled VT-x

I've been struggling with this for the past while and can't find any solutions. HAXM seems to be unable to detect that I have Intel Virtualization Technology enabled in my BIOS.
This issue only arose today after updating android studio and was working perfectly before. I've looked over the Intel and stack overflow forums but it has made no difference, Hyper-V is disabled on my PC and my antivirus is the free avg so I am unsure as to what may be causing it.
I've tried installing it through both the SDK manager in Android Studio and manually but it doesn't change anything.
Figured it out!
All you need to do is uninstall it via the control panel, delete any files that may be there from Android Studio and then install it from Intel's android resources

please help me to solve this problem
Try Hyper-V. it may help, in your case.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/virtualization/hyper-v-on-windows/quick-start/enable-hyper-v
Go to your bios set up while your computer starts in pressing boot key. Then find Intel Virtualisation Technology and Enable it. Hope it helps.
If you are using version HAXM version 7.2.0, uninstall it and install version 7.1.0. Doing this solved my problem.

HAXM not installed error in AVD manager

I understand this question has been asked earlier as well, and I have infact tried everything I could find there but I am still not able to solve the issue.
I am seeing this error when I try to run AVD.
"Intel HAXM is required to run this AVD.
HAXM is not installed.
Install Intel HAXM for better emulation performance.""
if I go ahead and click 'ok' it shows me the installer, I have gone through the installation step there many time withouct changing the preferred RAM size. in the end it says this.
"Running IntelĀ® HAXM installer
Intel HAXM installed successfully!
Done"
but after restarting everything, I see the same problem again.
I ran haxm_check.exe and it says.
"VT support -- yes
NX support -- yes
I mannually downloaded the package form intel site and installed, it again says installed successfully but AVD somehow can't pick it.
No idea what should I do next.
USING WINDOW 10 / ANDROID STUDIO 2.1.1
EDIT -Seeing some weird behaviour
C:\Users\Ankit\Desktop\haxm>silent_install.bat
Intel HAXM installed successfully!
C:\Users\Ankit\Desktop\haxm>silent_install.bat -u
Intel HAXM is not installed!
Installation says it's successful, but un-installation says otherwise
For me it solved after installing Haxm here is link
https://github.com/intel/haxm/releases/
Ok, seems like I solved it but still I have no idea what was the problem. Infact it's fixed accidentally.
so I had this file there intelhaxm-android.exe, I accidently opened it in winrar and there I could see hax.msi file.. I ran it and setup begun, followed it and all seems fine now.
however directly running intelhaxm-android.exe was not opening any installer setup, it was just opening a command prompt which was getting closed immidiately.
Seems like this was something very specific to my laptop..

HAXM installed successfully, but not recognized by Android Studio 2.1

Intel HAXM installs successfully (according to the log) both through Android Studio and directly from Intel's executable. However, Android Studio 2.1 says "HAXM is not installed" and prompts me to install it in an endless cycle (Not installed, install? Installed successfully. Not installed, install?).
Note: it worked fine in the previous version of Android Studio. Since upon upgrading it didn't recognize HAXM, I tried uninstalling Android Studio and reinstalling 2.1, but it still is not recognizing the HAXM installation.
How can I get Android Studio to understand that Intel HAXM is installed?
This is on Windows 10.
Running "silent_install.bat" or "intelhaxm-android.exe" resulted in a log file stating that Intel HAXM had been installed when it actually hadn't.
I was finally able to install HAXM 6.0.1 by extracting "intelhaxm-android.exe" with 7-zip and running "setup.exe" manually.
Now it's recognized by Android Studio.
please try to install it from here:
https://software.intel.com/en-us/android/articles/intel-hardware-accelerated-execution-manager
or try to uncheck >> save HAXM installer in your SDK Manager => and install it again
Run the HAXM installer via the path:
your_sdk_folder\extras\intel\Hardware_Accelerated_Execution_Manager\intelhaxm.exe
Take a look at this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7xoPCv3sYs
The link to the youtube from mounir elfassi's answer on this problem worked for me in 2021.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7xoPCv3sYs
In this tutorial, He go to the HAXM file location where it is already downloaded by android studio and installs it manually.
I tried the same method and my problem was solved.
After trying to install manually by going to file path -
~\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk\extras\intel\Hardware_Accelerated_Execution_Manager
Sometimes the HaxmSetup.exe does not install and shows an error"The system requirements are not satisfied".
This error can have multiple reasons,
Hyper-V is enabled.
Virtualisation is disabled.
...
I found the solution here
For my device the virtualization was disabled, and it can be easily checked
by going to task manager and then under performance tab below the CPU utilization graph.
Then you have to enable it by going into BIOS setting of your device. It is different for every device so it is better you search where can you find virtualization settings for your device.
I solved it by:
1- going to my android sdk.
2- open 'extras' file then 'intel then 'Hardware_Accelerated_Execution_Manager'.
3- Finally 'haxm-7.6.5-setup' to setup manually.
this should work will with you as happened with me.

How to Enable Intel Visualization Technology(VT-X) without BIOS Setup

I am Developing android application using Eclipse. I got error HAX Kernal is not installed. I installed Intel HAXM using SDK manager. Even though the problem is occurred. Hiper-V is also disabled in my windows feature.
I forget my BIOS Password. So i am not tried using BIOS Setup. Please help me to enable Intel Visualization Technology(VT-X) without BIOS Setup
I got Below Error:
Please help me to enable Intel Visualization Technology(VT-X) without BIOS Setup
That is not possible, sorry. Contact your PC manufacturer for assistance in getting into your BIOS setup.
I was having the same problem and I had solved it by myself
Don,t worry here is the simple solution for you:
Go to your standalone SDK Manager, and find for Intel_HAXM type of package in Extras section. In worst case if it is already ind=stalled then try to update or reinstall it.
Select that package and then install it from the SDK Manager.
Now here is the important part, Go to "C:\Android\sdk\extras\intel\Hardware_Accelerated_Execution_Manager" and then open "intelhaxm-android.exe" .
Install it. If it says that your computer already has this installed , do you want to update it, then go for the same.
Restart your Android Studio or eclipse, and now everything is fine.
