I just went live with my android app (Xamarin) -- and all my users are getting a -504 error when they try to install the application. Please help!
The app name is 'ControlTower' (the one with a tick symbol); can you tell me what I might have done wrong
Seems to download fine here. So I don't know who "all your users" are, but they might want to check this link: http://appslova.com/fix-android-504-error/
The error 504 code appears while attempting to download apps or games
in the Google Play Store. This is a gateway timeout error and is
generally associated with slower internet connections or mobile data
networks. Simple fix that worked for some is turning your mobile data
off and then back on. You can try it now by turning your Airplane mode
on and then off or by going to settings >> data usage>> turn off
Mobile data and turn it back on. Now try to download or update the app
via Google Play. If that didn’t work, some users have even solved the
Google Play Store error 504 by freeing some space in their android
device by uninstalling unwanted apps or games. If these Android fixes
didn’t work there are more to go in this post for “App” could not be
downloaded due to an error. (504)
Has more to do with the user's device than anything else. You say it just went live. It might have to fall through to all proxies and servers etc. So it might just be a small hiccup while going live on the app store.

I have a flutter app that is designed to be placed as a fixed camera and based on what it sees give commands for IOT purposes.
To prevent it from sleeping, I am using a library called wakelock. (https://pub.dev/packages/wakelock)
Unfortunately, this doesn't prevent another issue, Google Prompts. When I log into my developer account on my laptop, the development phone is taken over by the prompt asking "Are you trying to sign in?"
I don't really want to have the solution be to log out of google on the phone, since the app is downloaded and updated via the play store.
I also don't want to disable 2F authentication, just don't want it to take over this developer phone, it's fine if it does so on my personal phone.
So a google settings solution, or a flutter code solution would be really helpful, have been able to find neither.
TLDR: I tried having the android phone as a 24/7 IOT camera with my flutter app, and was expecting it to stay on, but it was interrupted by the Google Prompt.
The easiest solution seem to me to set up a separate google account; this way the app could continue to be updated from the Play Store without being tied to your personal account, so you shouldn't receive 2fa prompts.
Another thing that might help is "Pinning" the app, which doesn't allow the app to be exited without authentication.
If neither of those work, a more advanced option could be to set up the phone with device management and use the lock task mode, but the work involved with setting that up is probably prohibitive for your use-case.
New information below:
I have been using Orbot for android for a while now and suddenly I was having issues with it stopping suddenly causing difficulty loading some sites.
So I uninstalled it and when I tried to re-install it from F-droid I got a notification that guardianproject.info website was blocked by an entity named a.ns.mayfirst.org and b.ns.mayfirst.org
So I then downloaded it from github but when I tried to install it my device took me BACK to the F-droid app where a popup said "needs authorization". But nowhere could I see how I could do that.
I also found information that the ttl: was set to 86400. But my device ttl performed at about 2 seconds thus timing out.
Either I need help changing my device ttl or I need a way to get around the block.
I must disclose I am not a developer, I am self-taught.
The developer console for android has functionality for reporting runtime crashes if users decide to report a crash. Other frameworks has similar features that sends crash-reports without involving the user.
Does anyone know of a way to report installations or upgrades that has failed? With android 5.0 I am getting more and more user-reports of failed installs, but it is hard to obtain logs from non-technical users of my app.
You cannot detect whether or not an installation has failed yourself, because there is no way to execute code before your app is actually installed. So the logical app to do such a thing would be the market app triggering the install (i.e. Google Play). This not only knows when each installation starts, but also knows all details about the apk to report to the right developer.
Unfortunately however, Google play does not support this currently (as far as I know) and hence you cannot detect failed installs.
On older Android phones you could ask users is to install a "logcat app" and email the logs to you for analysis, but this will only work for devices older than Jelly bean. (Read this Link)
The best solution I can come up with (Mac only) is to ask users to install AndroidTool, press one button to generate a bugreport and email that to you. Not great, but for now the best you can do.
You can build an api that reports successful installation. Just call the api in onCreate of first activity. I don't think there is need to collect log on why the installation failed, is it needed ? You can do the same for upgrade, call an api one time from upgraded code.
I have an app that uses in-app purchasses. I have integrated all the code from the Dungeons example except for the UI components. I have submitted my draft apk, activated it, created my in-app purchases, all of which are managed, and published them.
I am successfully able to purchase my in-app items and unlock the corresponding content without issue. The problem I am running into is that whenever I call to restore transactions, I get back the error code RESULT_SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE. I know that the result code means that the app can't access the store, but that makes no sense seeing as I can purchase items just fine.
I am running on an HTC Nexus One with Android v2.3.6 and Google Play v3.5.16. I am connecting over WiFi because there is no data plan for the device. The apk installed is exactly the same as the draft apk submitted. I am installing the apk via adb -d install command.
Any suggestions of what might cause this or where to look would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
if you find similar message in the log:
05-30 09:28:23.760: E/Volley(4636): [13] BasicNetwork.performRequest: Unexpected response code 429 for https://android.clients.google.com/vending/api/ApiRequest
it can mean that you've send too much RESTORE_TRANSACTIONS request in certain amount of time. Google has clearly some throttling on request. It happened to me during testing in-app billing, approx. 20-30 restore transactions request went ok, and then - exactly the same problem - service unavailable response.
Check logcat output, maybe there are some warnings there. Other than that, not 100% sure that RESTORE_TRANSACTIONS works with unpublished apps and test accounts. Maybe 'service unavailable' simply means 'not supported' in this case?
I had this same problem, and it turned out that the password on the primary gmail account on the device was wrong. So when I checked if billing was supported, I got RESULT_OK, but for restore purchases, I got RESULT_SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE.
Go into your gmail or any google apps and refresh. Double check that the account password is correct and try again.
This problem also shows up in logcat as
NotifyingErrorListener.onErrorResponse: Server error on InAppPurchaseInformationRequest: com.android.AuthFailureError: User needs to (re)enter credentials
This does mean that you've done too many RESTORE_TRANSACTIONS and the service won't be available for X number of days unfortunately, as I hit the same issue.
BUT... It is device specific, so if you start testing again on another device or factory reset your device, you should be able to avoid it.
The app is being displayed in the Android Market, but I just tried downloading it and got a server error. Here is how it looks on my Android Developers Account...
The advertise link is missing and I can't download it from the market on my phone because I get "server error". Here is the app...
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.joeb.apps.beer.counter
The link is not available for paid applications. In my experience the Advertise Here only shows for free apps. You could just go to http://www.admob.com/ and set up any advertisement through there.
And if you set up your developer account with example#gmail.com and then tried to download the app under the same email address, then you are supposed to get an error. If you got a "Server Error", though it would rarely mean there's something wrong with the app and rather mean something with the phone or the gmail association on the Market. What I'm saying is that I'm sure others will still be able to download it.
