I was just coding in my Xamarin.Forms project, and suddenly, this error appeared:
Project is not compatible with monoandroid81(MonoAndroid,Version=v8.1). Project TaskX.iOS supports: xamarinios10 (Xamarin.iOS,Version=v1.0)
I don´t really know what this means. Does anyone have a solution?
After a few days of messing around, it worked when I installed the latest version -
I had 8.1 installed but as soon as I installed "Android SDK Platform 28" (Latest) + updated all sdk's everything worked
maybe updating the sdk's was the solution but just make sure you specify a installed (updated) android version correctly
This is yet another failing of the Visual Studio error list. I am getting this error on my Android projects and a very similar one on my IOS project. Neither project uses NHibernate. I can unload my NHibernate project and both my Android and IOS project still build. Yet the error remains. I can change the error list filter to Build so I can ignore this IntelliSense error. It's not much of a solution but neither is Visual Studio's error list.
I fixed this issue removing an android reference on my iOS project.
Expand reference on your iOS project and look for and .Droid and remove it

I'm able to run new Android Studio projects perfectly, but I am trying to build an older project and keep receiving the error "Unknown android attribute 'MenuView'" during the :appcompat:generateDebugRFile task. I have tried using different gradle versions, different build tools versions, and changing the api level. I even tried the solutions for this similar post with no luck. The error definitely hints at an issue with the appcompat library, but android-support-v7 should be fine and I've found most instructions for updating the appcompat library to be outdated.
I'm really frustrated with this error (especially since I've been able to build the project recently in the past). Any help would be greatly appreciated
Fixed!
Turned out the gradle version that I was using was too new for the older project. When I tried to change to an older version in Android Studio, it wouldn't let me.
Solution was to checkout a fresh copy from git that used the older version and to not set gradle wrapper
Quite new to Android Dev, and I've been getting a strange error recently. I've searched online, and nothing seems to do the trick, so while I understand that this might be a duplicate question, no other previously asked question was able to offer me a working solution.
When I make a new project in Android Studio (version 2.2 Preview 1), I get bombarded with the error:
Error:(1, 0) Plugin is too old, please update to a more recent version, or set ANDROID_DAILY_OVERRIDE environment variable to "84c9986024dd3d7a4767dc5c38710ff1b96f1a21"
With two options: "Fix plugin version and sync project" which seems to do nothing. Upon clicking. And "Open File" which just opens the "build.gradle" file.
In my settings, I have Android Studio set to use the default gradle wrapper. I even set the distributionurl to the newest gradle version, but apparently even that is "too old"...
I have no idea what's causing this problem.
Another peculiar thing I've noticed is that in the project panel, it seems that my project doesnt look as it should.
The project in question looks like this:
Whereas, I understand that it should look more like this:
Again, no idea what's going on... I'm pretty new to Android Studio, but I'll do my best to answer any questions you may have.
While I believe the message may be because you have a 2.2 Preview build of Android Studio, it may want you to use a beta build of the Android Gradle Plugin.
Note: This is not related to the version of Gradle. The latest supported version of Gradle is 2.14.1, which you can check the Android Studio Release Notes, and also here.
From that first link, what I find most people don't understand.
The plugin runs independent of Android Studio so the plugin and the Gradle build system can be updated independently of Android Studio
Or Configuring your build, which explains why they are separated.
you can build your Android apps from within Android Studio, the command line on your machine, or on machines where Android Studio is not installed (such as continuous integration servers). If you are not using Android Studio, you can learn how to build and run your app from the command line. The output of the build is the same whether you are building a project from the command line, on a remote machine, or using Android Studio.
I'm trying to learn AS, but after struggling for 3 days no progress.
Using https://www.udacity.com for learning.
Trying the hello world app from there, got this error Gradle DSL method not found: 'android()'.
I've worked in eclipse, but migrating from eclipse to AS looks very tough decision for me. I'm using cordova cli so far, now thinking to use AS.
While runing the app am not able to open RUN TOOL it show but is grey color(which is not clickable).
Downloaded new Gradle version (2.10), and set the path to that directory. But still showing Gradle version 2.2.1 in Project Structure.
Checked in stackoverflow as well, but nothing worked. Worst experieence.
Any body have idea what is going on, would be helpfull.
Android Studio 1.2.2
Make sure you have the latest Gradle and Android Studio:
https://www.gradle.org/
http://tools.android.com/tech-docs/new-build-system/version-compatibility
Go for more
Android Studio Gradle DSL method not found: 'android()' -- Error(17,0)
Udacity's Android courses are using the newest dependencies and AS version.
Please remove existing 1.2 version and upgrade it to 1.5.1 to get the fresh experience and less building problems
Be sure that you're using Oracle JDK7 not Java 8 SDK. It may cause some problems with Gradle
I recommend you also try to follow the steps in this post: I just installed Android Studio and created a new project, it always came up with Error with gradle
Have a question? Please free to ask
I can't seem to find the project files in to the newer version of Android Studio. In the screenshot below you can see that it doesn't display the entire project tree.

The solution offered in this post doesn't fix my problem.

this work on my android studio 0.3.5 on linux
It happened to me too, in this link it says something about upgrading:
Windows users: Do not install Android Studio 0.2.x in the same location as 0.1.x. Doing so may cause errors such as ClassCastException or other unexpected behaviors. It's best if you remove your previous version of Android Studio 0.1.x.
I fixed it uninstalling my currend Android Studio installation, removing the folder where it was installed with the remaining files, and installing it again. It works correctly now apparently.
I have had the same problem on Android Studio 1.2.2. I have closed and reopen project.
Whenever i am trying to run my project, i am getting this error in the console.
"Could not find **.apk"
Operating system: windows XP
IDE: Eclipse SDK
Version: 3.4.2
Build id: M20090211-1700
Android: 1.6
ADT: ADT 10.0.0
FYI: it is only happening with a single project, other projects are running fine..
I think this can happen when you rename the library project out from underneath the dependent project. Eclipse is reasonably good about about updating dependencies in most cases but this one seems fragile.
First try removing and then re-adding your library in Project > Properties > Android > Library.
If that doesn't work try cleaning your projects, exiting Eclipse, and opening the ".classpath" file in your project's root directory. If you see a line that references your library project under a previous name, just delete it, save the file, and relaunch Eclipse. Build the library project and then your dependent one. You may need to re-add the library like I mentioned above. This is what worked for me at least.
Edit note: I also found some stale references in my .project files. They didn't seem to be causing any problems but I removed them too. If you do that, be sure to search for the old name in that file as there was a whole "link" section near the bottom that also referenced it.
Make sure after updating your android sdk sdk build tools are updated properly.
You can check it by Open sdk manager -"Android Sdk Build Tools" status must be installed.
if the status is not installed then install Android Sdk Build Tools for the same.
restart your eclipse and try again
check this it might be helpful to you
Make sure your project imported the Android 1.6 library correctly. That is, under your project, you should see 'Android 1.6', which expands and displays 'android.jar'.
If it says Referenced Libraries > android.jar, you will need to fix this by manually altering the .classpath for the project.
Open .classpath for the project and type the following:
The important line is the 3rd classpathentry, which is the actual link to the Android SDK libraries.
source
clean your project and check . eclipse is not building apk file.
check this thread. It might help you.

Run eclipse as administrator and then import your project
Update Android SDK, is what did it for me.
I was building a game with the LibGdx Framework and got the same error. I tried several solutions from various posts at stackoverflow and others.
Found help in a post at the LibGdx Forum:

Just updated to ADT 22, so should you. However, the process wasn’t all that smooth. What you need to do:
Update the ADT plugin in Eclipse (Help -> Check for Updates)
Open the Android SDK Manager, either from within Eclipse, or from
your Android SDK folder
Fetch all the updates
Fetch all the updates again
Fetch the updates one more time…
The end result should be an updated ADT plugin, as well as up to date SDK packages. Make sure you have all three of the ones in the following image, with the exact version numbers.
I needed to update them only once and from there on it worked.
Even if this post is outdated I figured I'll share this, because I lost a day finding nothing.
I experienced that problem, too, when I created an android project that was using an android library. Obviously I didn't know how to incorporate a library into an application the right way. I wrongly used project dependencies (Java Build Path/projects) or adding a library (Java Build Path/Libraries). While all I had to do was go to the Android tab and import my android library by means of the add button from the Library section.
I am using PhoneGap and I checked several solutions about configuration (properties, build path). However, my problem was that I tried to run everything with the default setup for Eclipse. Then, I solved it going to the SDK manager to install: Android SDK Build-tools, and it worked.
Mine was caused by this problem (incompatibility between ADT and SDK), and was fixed thus:
Eclipse > Help
Install New Software
Add 'https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/' to 'Work With'
section and press enter
After developer tools appears on the list, check it and click Next
Restart eclipse once download is finished
Make sure put correct SDK Location (I have 2 instances of SDK and update wrong once).
