Get chip name of the android device using adb? - android

Is there an easy way to get the chip name like the MediaTek SoCs (ARMv5 MT1000 ..) of an Android device using adb shell?
I'm trying to run "adb shell cat system/build.prop" but I don't found the chip or SoC name.
Any Help for that!

To get CPU info of a device via adb try,
adb shell cat /proc/cpuinfo

You will get your soc model number from this you can search it on the Qualcomm product list to find SOC name
adb shell cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep hardware
In some cases you will directly get your product name

At least on Samsung S8, I get the SoC name (exynos8895) by running
adb shell getprop ro.hardware ro.hardware.chipname
Also, I get samsungexynos8895 from
adb shell getprop ro.hardware

adb shell command to find the device RAM

I am trying to find device RAM (512 MB or 1GB) using adb shell commands.
Following commands giving more details about the free,used & total memory. But how to find the device overall RAM?
adb shell "cat /proc/meminfo"
adb shell dumpsys meminfo
adb shell procrank
So it looks to me that MemTotal is probably the field you are looking for:
MemTotal — Total amount of physical RAM, in kilobytes.
While it is not the strictly Android, another Linux flavour CentOS provides the following page regarding /proc/meminfo. It seems that Red Hat, and other variants also describe it similarily.
Is there something that is making you suspect that this is not the physical RAM? On my device the value reported for MemTotal matches what I expect.
People who post answers often forget that Windows users don't have access to grep, cat, etc. Add shell to the beginning of your pipe.
.\adb.exe -s whichever-device shell "cat /proc/meminfo | grep MemTotal"
This is assuming you're connected to multiple devices. If you're only connected to one, you can remove -s whichever-device (usually the ip if you're connected by wifi or the device number from the device list if connected by wire.).

Android: How can I get device hardware information with adb command?

I would like to know how to retrieve specific hardware information, for example, from the camera, using an adb command. I would like to know if its possible to retrieve hardware ID or Physical device object name for example, to store these values.
Sdk:
adb shell getprop ro.build.version.sdk
Complete list:
adb shell getprop
Through the package manager:
adb shell pm list features
To retrieve detailed information about the camera
adb shell dumpsys media.camera
adb shell getprop
replace x with the prop. you want

Is it possible to use adb to take a screenshot of a wearable connected via bluetooth?

I have an LG watch which I can connect directly to my developer machine using USB and therefore can use the following command to take screenshots:
adb shell screencap -p /sdcard/screenshot.png
However my Moto 360 watch doesn't have a usb connection and thus I have to connect it using bluetooth going via its paired handset. This means there are always two devices connected to adb. Thus its not possible to use the adb shell command as adb doesn't know which device to apply it to. Some adb commands can have the device specied, but it doesn't look like this is possible with adb shell.
Using the Take wearables screenshot menu option in the Android Wear app isn't doing anything - it says "Screenshot request sent" but then nothing after that.
So how can I grab a screenshot of the watch? (I want to take a screenshot when there is an incoming phone call)
Enable bluetooth debugging on your wearable and setup a debugging session (described here: Debugging over Bluetooth).
You have to run any adb command in the following format:
adb -s localhost:4444 <command>
A simple
adb -s localhost:4444 shell screencap -p /sdcard/screenshot.png
adb -s localhost:4444 pull -p /sdcard/screenshot.png
should do the trick ;)

Can I use adb.exe to find a description of a phone?

If I call the command "adb.exe devices" I get a list of devices with a unique ID for each. These IDs are perfect for programming but not very human readable. Is there any way I can link one of these IDs to a (not necessarily unique) description of the phone? For example, if I have a device with an ID 1234567890abcdef is there any way I can figure that in real life it is a Motorola Droid X?
In Android there is a Model number entry in settings that shows phone name.
There is a way to quickly see this via command line:
adb shell cat /system/build.prop | grep "product"
This is what's shown for Samsung Galaxy S 4G:
ro.product.model=SGH-T959V
ro.product.brand=TMOUS
ro.product.name=SGH-T959V
ro.product.device=SGH-T959V
ro.product.board=SGH-T959V
ro.product.cpu.abi=armeabi-v7a
ro.product.cpu.abi2=armeabi
ro.product.manufacturer=Samsung
ro.product.locale.language=en
ro.product.locale.region=US
# ro.build.product is obsolete; use ro.product.device
ro.build.product=SGH-T959V
On a HTC Desire, the output looks like this:
ro.product.model=HTC Desire
ro.product.brand=htc_wwe
ro.product.name=htc_bravo
ro.product.device=bravo
ro.product.board=bravo
ro.product.cpu.abi=armeabi-v7a
ro.product.cpu.abi2=armeabi
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
ro.product.locale.language=hdpi
ro.product.locale.region=
You can refine your query to show only one line:
adb shell cat /system/build.prop | grep "ro.product.device"
or
adb shell cat /system/build.prop | grep "ro.product.model"
With newer devices, you can run
adb devices -l
This will list some devices in a more human readable form
Example:
04d9a601ce516d53 device usb:1A134500 product:occam model:Nexus_4 device:mako
015d4b3406280a07 device usb:1A134700 product:nakasi model:Nexus_7 device:grouper
01466E620900F005 device usb:1A134600 product:mysid model:Galaxy_Nexus device:toro
Yes, adb shell cat /system/build.prop is wonderful, but also as #Matt said, it sometimes differs because of different manufacture.
IMHO, the most reliable approach is the built-in command: adb shell getprop
======================================================================
Here is a comparison for an exception (Genymotion emulator):
By adb shell cat /system/build.prop you'll get
ro.product.brand=generic
ro.product.name=vbox86p
ro.product.device=vbox86p
ro.product.board=
ro.product.cpu.abi=x86
ro.product.manufacturer=Genymotion
ro.product.locale.language=en
ro.product.locale.region=US
So there is no model value :(
By adb shell getprop you'll get
[ro.product.manufacturer]: [Genymotion]
[ro.product.model]: [Nexus422ForAutomation]
[ro.product.name]: [vbox86p]
Here you get the model name: Nexus422ForAutomation :)
Unfortunately, there is no reliable way to do this since each manufacturer tweaks their build properties
If you type "adb help" into the command line you can see a list of the adb commands and a description for each.
I'm using this script (on MacOS):
#!/bin/bash
devices=`adb devices | grep "device" | grep -v "List of" | cut -d " " -f 1`
for device in $devices
do
manufacturer=`adb -s $device shell getprop ro.product.manufacturer | sed -e 's/[[:space:]]*\$//'`
model=`adb -s $device shell getprop ro.product.model | sed -e 's/[[:space:]]*\$//'`
echo "$device: $manufacturer $model"
done
It produces e.g. the following output:
T076000UWX: motorola XT1053
C4F12070E5A068E: samsung GT-P7510
4df1ff977b919f91: samsung GT-N7100
4258393032523638324D: Sony Ericsson LT18i

Read android device info from windows

Is it possible to get android device info (e.g. firmware version) from windows, when device is connected with PC by USB cable?
As I understand AT commands are not available. I was trying to use "adb", but I cannot see any usefull options. Maybe there is some text file with device info on the filesystem of the phone, so I could use "adb shell" to read this file?
Regards!
Use for example
adb -e shell getprop ro.build.display.id
to obtain something like
sdk-eng 2.1 ERD79 22607 test-keys
If you have more than one device or emulator, use
adb devices
to identify them and then use -s serialno in adb command line
