Notification bar cause problem with DrawerLayout and Activity

I would like to add a custom actionbar in my app because I am using a DrawerLayout, here is the problem:

You could try to add
android:layout_marginTop
to:

That should push the whole Drawer layout down.

I finally found the solution.
A added android:fitsSystemWindows="true" on the ConstraintLayout in app_bar_main.xml
I also added this line (android:fitsSystemWindows="true") in the first element of the nav_header_main.xml file (this is the headerLayout included in activity_talk.xml.

How to change color of navigation content in android

I want to change color of navigation drawer menu content.when a particular tab is selected.I have shown in image below color onto the navigation drawer content.I want to make red color as a text color of a particular tab when it get selected.

Views overlapping with toolbar

I have a simple app with one Activity. Currently Views are overlapping with my toolbar:
I want Views to go under the toolbar, not into it. How do I do this?

Not the right way of using DrawerLayout. The first view should contain the content you want to show the user. Later you can add drawers. For your example, you can use the following:

Put the textview inside the CoordinatorLayout after the toolbar. That's where the main content of the Activity goes. If you use the Android Studio template, it creates a content_main.xml file for you, and will include it there.
For example,
<include layout="#layout/content_main" />
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
Of course, you can do the same without the include tag, or separate XML layouts, but it's cleaner file organization if you do.
Currently, you have the textview as part of the DrawerLayout and it will probably move over as you expand the NavigationView. Obviously, not what you want.

Why android toolbar height is cut?

Change your toolbar XML this way:

Notice that minHeight disallows smaller sizes, and the wrap_content height now allows bigger toolbars.

You should move DrawerLayout as top parent and move Toolbar out of DrawerLayout content container.

However, Material Design guidelines state that Navigation Drawer should be above the Toolbar.

You should simply add
android:layout_marginTop="#dimen/abc_action_bar_default_height_material"
to your layout which you are using as drawer.
This will automatically adjust the navigation drawer below the toolbar and also supports different screen sizes.

You can add layout_marginTop like this,

If you create a project as a Navigation Drawer project(Navigation Drawer Activity) it will give you four XML files at the creation in your layout folder

how these xmls are linked? mostly i see include tag is used
Your Activity is linked with activity_main
activity_main has the app_bar_main and navigation_view(drawer)
app_bar_main has the toolbar and content_main by default
now lets remove activity_main and set its contents directly to app bar main and use it as the main layout for Activity.
To add the drawer under tool bar
add it under the android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout because is contains the toolbar and its should be on top.

An Easy and Good solution is set fitsSystemWindows=false for
android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout
that has id as
android:id="#+id/drawer_layout"
And for navigationView set layout_marginTop as ?attr/actionBarSize that would get the actionbar size and set it as margin
