API deployment for mobile applications - android

I'm working on Android project connected via retrofit to spring-boot API deployed on my local machine. API is connected to MySQL database. Now, I need my API make accessible from external network so I'm looking good place to deploy my back-end.
I heard about Heroku, Pivotal, AWS, but all of them looks expensive. Are better alternative for api deployment?
thank you

Your best shot is Firebase.
Have a look at the docs.

How do I connect a webapp and an android app with firebase?

I have been trying to learn how to create an app that allows people to upload images via the web or android.
I know that Android uses content providers to implement a mechanism for the sharing of data between applications. More specifically, Android uses the MediaStore API to make use of this functionality. However, that is limited to other Android devices.
I was wondering how I would go about connecting a web app made using reactjs to an Android app preferably using firebase. However, if it isn't possible in firebase that would be okay too,
I am a beginner in web app development, so I am not particularly sure about how the software's architecture will look like.
I have been struggling to find an updated concise solution online. Can anyone point me in the right direction and if not point me to some resources that will guide me in the right direction.
Thank you!
Attach/configure both of your application to use same database and storage bucket in firebase
As you can see I connected my android application as well as web administration application to same firebase project.
As you can see there is an add app option in firebase console where you can select platform. Register both of your application on same project and thats it.

How do I use firebase firestore for my desktop app?

I'm using the firebase-ui-android authentication flow for my mobile app.
I would like to do the same for my desktop app, but it doesn't seem like there is an equivalent framework; the closest seems to be firebase-ui-web.
Now I'm playing with the idea of (ab?)using firebase-ui-web to run locally on the client machine for authentication.
However, since firebase-ui-web seems to be aimed at the server I'm a bit wary running it on the client side.
The desktop app is fairly simple, it pretty much only needs to read some firestore data.
What are my options here?
The only ways to connect with Firebase are by an Android, an iOS and a web app.
There is no support for desktop apps.
But, you can create a native sync service to link your desktop app with Firebase users throught a web service.
It is feasible to have a desktop app to connect to Firebase. However you should create a hybrid desktop app using electron or other platforms that is by nature use web and javascript. Here is an example of using electron to manage firebase: https://www.electronjs.org/apps/firebase-admin
You can use Google Sign-In for TVs and Devices for that case.
This is not perfect, because you need to use additional access code, but it can work with desktop applications as well

How to connect and use google cloud sql for database access?

I know this is a nooby question and I apologise in advance. I'm looking all over but I just can't seem to find any documentation on connecting an Android app built in Android Studio to a Google Cloud SQL Database.
I'm only really doing this to try and find out how it is done because I'm interested in it but I'm very new to Android development. I've connected to a SQL database before from c# but it was only a local one, I've never connected to an online one before and I think the Google Cloud Platform operates a bit differently anyway?
Basically, whenever I try to find documentation for this, it keeps referring back to the Google App Engine, which seems to be a different way to create apps than just writing them in Android Studio (very likely I could be wrong, like I said, I'm very new to Android development).
I've seen that there is documentation for Eclipse with the Google Plugin but can't find anything for Android Studio. Is Android Studio not suited for this type of use?
I've seen that you can create a Google Cloud module for a project in Android Studio but I'm not exactly sure what that entails.
Basically, I would just love a set of very basic steps that I should follow for if I were wanting to write to a Google Cloud SQL DB from an Android app in Android Studio.
Otherwise, any good resources where I could possibly learn more about what I need to do would also be appreciated.
I think my biggest issue currently is that I have exactly 0 backend knowledge and so I'm just not really sure of what is required to set up this connection.
You should not access Cloud SQL directly from your Android (or iOS) or other client because you cannot secure the credentials needed to do so. If you embedded your credentials into your app, someone could extract them and either gain access to your database directly or could cause other trouble for you.
If you are open to other database types and you don't want to explore proxying requests through your own backend, then you should take a look at Cloud Firestore or Firebase Realtime Database. Firebase provides SDKs for Android that allow you to access these securely directly from your app. Firestore will scale better than the Realtime database, but that might not matter for your app.
A similar question and reason for why you shouldn't try to connect directly to Cloud SQL is covered in more depth here.

Architecture for cross platform messaging app

i am looking to build a mobile messaging app firstly in android and then ios later, and am struggling with the backend architecture and need some advice on what would be best in my circumstance. Basically i am used to just developing apps through a basic web server and using mysql with php, but now i think and want to create something that not only is very reliable and fast but is also scalable and can be used by both the android and ios platforms.
I am thinking about developing it on google cloud platform using either their google app engine or google compute engine depending on what other architectures i use. Also i was going to use google cloud messaging as my main way of handling the messages, however i am now not sure of that as it is only supported by apps that run on android and not ios, also i have heard it can be unreliable in some messages getting lost.
My main problem is that i have heard so many things about different architectures like ejabberd, xmpp, socket i.o and databases like redis that all work well with messaging apps, however i am not sure which to go that will work well together.
Sorry if this seems a bit of a confused situation, but i dont want to start developing something that i am later going to have to change. Thanks for the help
Announced last week: Engage your users across Android, iOS and Chrome via Google Cloud Messaging 3.0:
https://developers.google.com/cloud-messaging/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJatfdattno
You are asking about many different things.
Storage: can be a mysql database or something like mongo db
Transport protocol: XMPP is a chat protocol with many chat features included but it is not supported in browsers. WebSocket is more low level and more general but works inside the browser
webserver software: you basically need access to the database and be able to transmit XMPP or WebSocket. I'd recommend node.js for this. PHP is more for web pages

Server Side API for Mobile Applications

I am an iphone developer. I create many mobile applications. Some of them need a server side backend to store data and then my iphone applications access them.
Usually, I need to create a backend web application myself using PHP or RoR. However, they are very straight forward web application with some cruds (create, update, delete, edit, ..etc)
There are some troubles with this work:
I need to create very simple application and deploy it myself to the
server
If I am only iphone developer and don't know PHP or RoR, I
ask for some other web developer help.
Is there any existing web application that enables me to build my database schema and just give me API access to my data?
I'd like to recommend Appacitive - Its an awesome tool with many innovative features. One of the biggest advantage it has is that you can create your data model diagrammatically, and all the corresponding APIs are automatically generated for you.
They have relationship managers both in diagrammatic designer and via code. You can also filter data by using their visual tools. Test drive the APIs via their Test Harness tool.
Other great features include a data explorer, inbuilt Social Integration and Geo Location. Have a look at their features.
Try out their free package, they have all sorts of SDKs for Javascript, Android, iOS etc.
You should take a look at parse.com, it provides you the facility to add back-end to your mobile applications in minutes. Here is a tour of their services and android guide.
Look at QuickBlox. There is Custom Objects module, it allows to to build any data structure you want. There are a lot of iOS samples
