Since recieving the latest update from Android Studio (AS), my project was no longer able to run. After dealing with a few of the 30+ IDE errors I found manually cloning the entire project to be more efficient.
Though, when I create a new empty project it is not able to run due to the following error:
Could not identify launch activity: Default Activity not found
So I tried the 2nd and 3rd suggestion offered by this thread:
Error: Default Activity Not Found
But this made no difference.
Then I have reinstalled Android Studio, but unfortunatly without any improving results.
So now when I want to run any newly created project, it tells me it cannot find a registered activity. As one can see in the image, the activity is registered in the manifest.
I am hoping for new things I can try so I can finally move on with my work.
Build -> clean project then rebuild project.
I got it fixed by following the instructions of this post:
https://stackoverflow.com/a/52829860/4895256
What worked for me is to remove (or you can move it as a backup) the
".AndroidStudio3.2" (for you it will be .AndroidStudio3.1) folder
located in "C:\Users{username}\" and then reopen the Android Studio.
While launching I selected to import settings from the last version
and proceed. it will reconfigure all the settings.

I'm running Android Studio 3.1.1 on OSx and I have three projects that all use the same local library projects / modules.
My problem is that Android Studio often opens the wrong project when I open one of those 3 projects. Let's say I open Project 2 or Project 3, then I might find that Project 1 is the project that is actually opened, even though it displays the correct path for all three in the "Welcome to Android Studio" dialog.
The solution I've been resorting to until now is to
Remove all three projects from the "Welcome to Android Studio" dialog project list
Go into all three project folders, removing the .iml file
Importing the projects back into Android Studio using the "Import project" function
I'm getting really tired of this, and it's really confusing to think that you have opened one project but another one opens instead.
What could be causing this very strange behaviour?
Sometime android_studio is catching the old cache, to solve this go file , hit invalidate cache and restart. And the second solution is, you have to Refactor the package name, every project should have the unique package name in this situation. i hope this will help...
https://developers.google.com/android/guides/google-services-plugin
go to this official link. It solved me this problem. In my case, ] deleted saved file in this path "app/build/generated/res/google-services/{build_type}/values/values.xml" which contains my previous app's information. After that, when I run my current app, it created that file again, but with my current app's info.
In android studio, I had a project that was working in first place but then I created multiple copy of it in other paths to add changes to these copies instead of the original.
Afterwards, I noticed that the emulator shows up but doesn't launch the app I am trying to run. I followed a tutorial on YouTube that opens the setting app on the emulator and clears launcher data. then nothing changed.. I noticed that no matter how many changes I am adding to the file, nothing changes in the old app icon existing on the emulator.
Things got much worse later when I noticed that there is no modules or any other folders in the project structure except the SDK and when the older project versions were found to have same problem suddenly.
Even when I create a new project that is empty, same thing happens and the app crashes once it's installed.
Android app icon button before run appears in the project with a red cross over it.
Both the emulator and the mobile device don't get the latest version of the app I am trying to install.
I tried to make project, build, run, clean project, sync with gradle file, invalidate cache & restart. However, none of these solutions seem to work.
No idea what is going on.. things seem to be messed up and all online sources seem to be less useless to me.
Note: I am using Android studio V 1.1.0
so, I found that the best solution to this problem is to uninstall the current version of Android studio and SDK folder and reinstall it from scratch.. hope that helps
I am new to Android Development. I tried to create a new Android Application Project using Eclipse but when I click 'Finish' the windows remains open. When I close it, the folder hierarchy is as follows:
I don't think that this is correct since no AndroidManifest is present
Also, these are the errors that I get in the error log:
Sometimes deleting your Debug Certificate would work. This would be located inside your profile folder (In Windows, %USERPROFILE%/.android would be the correct location). Now clean build your android project. It should work.
I imported a sample 4.0.3 project and after deleting it from the Project Explorer list every thing is lost, now there are none of the projects that I was working before in Package Explorer??
Moreover now on importing these old project For Example name "On" are coming with the name "OnActivity" but still not able to run.
Else in workspace every file is ok, I tried to CLEAN but still no effect.
I'm new to devlopment kindly guide me.
Recover the source code from your workspace in the Windows file browser. If all attempts to recover fail, you can just create the projects from existing (recovered) code.
And what project are you trying to run? If APIDemo or QAActivity, the log shows you why you can't run them.
And instead of using the Play button (start) to launch, use the dropdown triangle and select the project to run, else the XML will be run (obviously that won't work).
Furthermore, make sure Eclipse knows it's a Android Project you're trying to run.
eclipse is working fine with importing a project which already exist. But i am facing problem while am creating a new project in the android.
And then am trying to change the path in the properties of the project which i have created then it is showing some kind of error and screen shot of it is
Can any one help me in this.
Assuming your d: drive is an actual hard drive you have the android-sdk in, and not some DVD/CD drive you tried installing the android-sdk from.
You should click on your new android project folder, right-click and click on "close unrelated projects", then the right files will get generated correctly (re-initiate a manual rebuild if you have to).
The problem was that Eclipse was trying to rebuild all the projects you had in your workspace, a number of which already contained errors in them. Not only those other projects were clogging up your error log, but when an error is detected by the packager/builder, the building process gets stopped entirely.
Now just in case this wasn't your only problem, do Help > Check updates
After that, click on the menu Window > AVD Manager and something
and make sure that you have the latest SDKs and AVD updates already installed.
Also be aware that Pulsar is not the recommended version of Eclipse for doing Android development, although this probably wasn't what was causing your problem.
