android: fix blank scrollview layout? - android

My goal is to show a toolbar at the top of the view, then a TextView, then a ScrollView section and then a footer that always shows at the bottom of the view. The below only shows the toolbar and the TextView header. Nothing is showing for the ScrollView section or for the footer at the bottom. What am I missing here?
EditActivity.xml
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#FFFFFF"
android:focusableInTouchMode="true"
tools:context=".EditActivity">
<include
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
layout="#layout/toolbar" >
</include>
<RelativeLayout android:id="#+id/header"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:gravity="center_horizontal"
android:layout_below="#+id/toolbar" >
<TextView
android:id="#+id/create_skycard"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textStyle="bold"
android:textColor="#color/colorFlLabelFinal"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceLarge"
android:clickable="false" />
</RelativeLayout>
<RelativeLayout android:id="#+id/myFooter"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true" >
<ViewFlipper
android:id="#+id/viewFlipper1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_marginBottom="5dp" >
<include layout="#layout/cardview_nobuttons"
android:id="#+id/cardviewNobuttons" />
<include layout="#layout/cardview_previewbuttons"
android:id="#+id/cardviewPreviewbuttons" />
</ViewFlipper>
</RelativeLayout>
<ScrollView
android:id="#+id/ScrollView1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_below="#+id/header"
android:layout_above="#+id/myFooter"
android:fillViewport="true" >
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/LinearLayout1"
style="#style/scrollbar_shape_style"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<com.wimso.v108.widget.EditText
... />
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
</RelativeLayout>

First of all, you should limit height of footer view. I set the ViewFlipper's height to 128dp for test, so you can calculate your own based on its content.
Second: You should set android:layout_alignParentTop="true" for the include which its id is toolbar. To do this you should set height and weight for it as I did.
Third: The height of the ScrollView should be wrap_content instead of match_parent to be sure it stretches between header and footer views.
Here is your layout source code after applying the above corrections:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#FFFFFF"
android:focusableInTouchMode="true"
tools:context=".EditActivity">
<include
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
layout="#layout/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true" />
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/header"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#+id/toolbar"
android:gravity="center_horizontal">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/create_skycard"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:clickable="false"
android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceLarge"
android:textColor="#color/colorFlLabelFinal"
android:textStyle="bold" />
</RelativeLayout>
<ScrollView
android:id="#+id/ScrollView1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_above="#+id/myFooter"
android:layout_below="#+id/header"
android:fillViewport="true">
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/LinearLayout1"
style="#style/scrollbar_shape_style"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical">
<com.wimso.v108.widget.EditText
... />
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/myFooter"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true">
<ViewFlipper
android:id="#+id/viewFlipper1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="128dp"
android:layout_marginBottom="5dp">
<include
android:id="#+id/cardviewNobuttons"
layout="#layout/cardview_nobuttons" />
<include

LinearLayout Inside ScrollView does not work with weightSum and layout_weight

I'm have a LinearLayout on top level. Inside it, I have ScrollView because some of the contents (not dynamically populated) goes below screen so I need vertical scrolling.
Harding coding height for inner Layouts works but layout_weight does not work.
The scroll for the below layout works
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#color/ui_dark_background">
<ScrollView android:id="#+id/scroll_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fillViewport="true" >
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height= "wrap_content"
android:weightSum= "120"
android:keepScreenOn= "true"
android:orientation= "vertical"
>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="500px"
>
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:text="53" />
</LinearLayout>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="500px"
>
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:text="53" />
</LinearLayout>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="500px"
>
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:text="53" />
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
</LinearLayout>
But I need to use layout_weight for sub LinearLayouts, the scroll doesn't work
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#color/ui_dark_background">
<ScrollView android:id="#+id/scroll_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fillViewport="true" >
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height= "wrap_content"
android:weightSum= "120"
android:keepScreenOn= "true"
android:orientation= "vertical"
>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="50"
>
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:text="53" />
</LinearLayout>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="50"
>
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:text="53" />
</LinearLayout>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="50"
>
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:text="53" />
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
</LinearLayout>
Tried couple of solutions like settings android:fillViewport="true" but not sure why the scroll is not working

FrameLayout after ScrollView allways on bottom

I need to made layout that will contain ScrollView with some dynamic length text and Button in FrameLayout after(below). With long text all is okay, but when text is short button stuck right below bottom of ScrollView text part. I want a FrameLayout in the bottom of the screen when text is short and right below ScrollView text part when text long .
Can it be done?

android:textColor="#android:color/white"
android:textSize="17sp"
android:textStyle="bold"
/>
</FrameLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
</android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout>
You can use the android:fillViewport attribute of ScrollView to accomplish this.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ScrollView
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fillViewport="true">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical">
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"/>
<FrameLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1">
<Button
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="bottom"/>
</FrameLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
What this does is make it so that, in the case where the contents of the LinearLayout are not large enough to fill the screen, the LinearLayout is stretched to fill the screen anyway. That gives the FrameLayout room to grow (based on its layout_weight attribute), which in turn lets the Button float to the bottom of the screen (because of its layout_gravity attribute).
In cases where the contents of the LinearLayout are larger than the screen, no stretching happens. The button is pushed off-screen, but appears when you scroll down (with no space between it and the text).
You can try this code for your approach:
<android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"

Explaination:
What i did was took FrameLayout containing Button out side of ScrollView so that it can always be at bottom of the Container.

ScrollView not working in a fragment

i want to make layout scrollable with scrollview but its not working at all.tried to change scrollview with NestedScrollView but the problem still same. this layout used in fragment. put LinearLayout inside the scrollview as a view. can anyone help me to correct my code if i am doing wrong ? below is my xml code
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ScrollView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/rootView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fillViewport="true"
android:background="#android:color/white"
android:orientation="vertical"
tools:context=".ui.jobCalendar.JobCalendarFragment">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical">
<com.applandeo.materialcalendarview.CalendarView

tools:listitem="#layout/job_row">
</android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView>
</android.support.v4.widget.SwipeRefreshLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
thanks in advance
Do this
1) Change root layout to RelativeLayout
2) Set height of ScrollView to wrap_content
3) Change height of ScrollView child which is LinearLayout to
match_parent
4)add this line to Host activity of that fragment
<activity
android:name="Activity_name"
android:windowSoftInputMode="stateHidden|adjustResize" />
Finally the xml looks like:-
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/rootView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#android:color/white"
android:fillViewport="true"
android:orientation="vertical"
tools:context=".ui.jobCalendar.JobCalendarFragment">
<ScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#android:color/white"
android:fillViewport="true"
android:orientation="vertical">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<com.applandeo.materialcalendarview.CalendarView
android:id="#+id/calendarView"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:headerColor="#color/colorPrimaryDark" />
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#drawable/bg_calendar"
android:orientation="vertical">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#color/colorPrimary">
<TextView
style="#style/TextContent.Black"
android:layout_marginBottom="8dp"
android:layout_marginTop="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
android:padding="10dp"
android:text="Schedule"
android:textColor="#color/white"
android:textSize="16sp" />
</LinearLayout>
<android.support.v4.widget.SwipeRefreshLayout
android:id="#+id/swipe_refresh_layout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/listJob"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_margin="#dimen/activity_vertical_margin"
tools:listitem="#layout/job_row">
</android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView>
</android.support.v4.widget.SwipeRefreshLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
</RelativeLayout>
I think you need to get rid of those settings inside the ScrollView attribute.
Basically short it down to
<ScrollView
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
Put the rest of the settings inside a RelativeLayout that is included inside the ScrollView like this:
<ScrollView
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<RelativeLayout
======== put all the rest of your settings from scrollvide here =====>
<CONTENT> add here the rest of your code </CONTENT>
</RelativeLayout>
</Scrollview>

android: design an activity with an scrollable part

my activity contains 4 section as follow:
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"></LinearLayout>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"></LinearLayout>
<ScrollView>
<LinearLayout></LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"></LinearLayout>
</RelativeLayout>
what is the correct layout properties for scrollview?
Try this
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="horizontal"></LinearLayout>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="horizontal"></LinearLayout>
<ScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1">
<!-- put your scrolling stuff here it needs
to exceed the height of the view to scroll -->
</ScrollView>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="horizontal"></LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
I believe this should work..
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<!-- your layouts.. -->
<!-- layouts in here will be in the scrollview -->
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
</LinearLayout>

How to display Top and bottom view as constant in a layout - android

i've one layout with one top view ,bottom view and scrollview.
Scrollview contains edittext. when edit text got focus, bottomview also scroll to up . how to avoid this.
I've tried in manifest file android:windowSoftInputMode as
adjustResize
adjustPan
But still btm layout scroll , or top layout move up.
my sample layout is
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
tools:context=".MainActivity" >
<View
android:id="#+id/topView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="50dp"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:background="#123456" />
<View
android:id="#+id/btmView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="50dp"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:background="#123456" />
<ScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<View
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="300dp"
/>
<EditText
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginBottom="50dp"/>
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
</RelativeLayout>
I want top layout and bottom layout must be constants.How to achieve this?
Use
android:layout_below="#+id/topView"
android:layout_above="#+id/btmView"
in ScrollView Like This
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
tools:context=".MainActivity" >
<View
android:id="#+id/topView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="50dp"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:background="#123456" />
<View
android:id="#+id/btmView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="50dp"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:background="#123456" />
<ScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_below="#+id/topView"
android:layout_above="#+id/btmView"
>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<View
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="1000dp"
/>
<EditText
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginBottom="50dp"/>
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
</RelativeLayout>
