I am looking for an idiot's guide to writing apps for wear-os. Any pointers to online resources would be great.
I have a phone app and what I want to do is mirror the app on a watch. The phone app has a UI component and a service component in its own VM. Can I use this service, running on the phone, to deliver data to the watch?
I am thinking something similar to the way maps works, I can use my phone to set a destination and navigate, then the watch starts showing me the map and directions so my phone can go in the pocket. I am not looking for just sending notifications.
Thanks for any pointers.

You can start by familiarizing yourself with building simple Wear OS apps. There are quick start projects for basic sample apps. You can also take a guided lesson for creating a Wear OS app through Codelab.
After you have familiarized yourself with how Wear OS works, you can start integrating Maps API on Wear OS. You can create a map-based wearable app that runs directly on Wear OS by Google devices.

I did not know where else to turn for this question
My present background is Android and Rails application development. I am building a social media type mobile app that allows for real-time messaging between users, and the creation/scheduling of events as well as a web component in rails.
In terms of launch, everywhere I look it notes not to launch to Android first, but focus on iOS, yet just about all of these sources are 2+ years old.
For the application that I have, generally described, is there any reason not to launch to Android first? Are the fears outlined in the articles outdated?
I'm working on a social network app for Android too and in my opinion you don't need to fear about selecting an OS for starting development. Start from where you are experienced. I'm good enough with Java and Android so I decided to start with Android. When I have a fully functional app than I will launch and start building the app for iOS.
You should focus on the OS that you like and you are experienced with. I think these articles are oldies. But the decision is up to.

I'm building an iOS app for my boss, and I have to implement a chat. the app will run on iOS for now but in the future it's gonna run on android too, so I need a cross-platform working solution. I will develop it in Swift, on Iphone only.
once you logged in by Facebook , Twitter or email you'll be able to send messages to other users logged in the app and online. you know, waze style.
I think I cannot use iMessage since the app could be developed for Android too.
I'm trying to understand Jabber but I am totally new at it, but is it possible to make such a service in PHP?
Boss told me to look for a third party chat service, pay it and stop but I cannot find the right one.
could someone help me?
There is a really good new tool named Layer which does exactly what you are looking for.

I wanted to make video demo of my application in order to present. How can i make my application video when it running and open on android Tablet.
I've tried to come up with ways to do this to no avail. Best I've ever been able to achieve is stick your device in front of a nice camera.
However this http://www.bluestacks.com/ seems like it might be promising for this purpose once it is released. If you can run your apps on a windows machine (and it is much better than the emulator) then you could record that section of your screen with something like Fraps.
Edit: Bluestacks has since opened up for beta. For me it runs similarly to the emulator so does not provide a whole lot of benefit for the purposes of recording your applications. If you don't have a development environment with an emulator set up already though bluestacks will be ready for you to actually start recording quicker.

Is there a way to install my own Android app on my Android phone so I can see and check how the updates work?
I developed the app and released an update - I like to check myself how the update works.
On iPhone there are the Promo Codes - what would one do on Android?
I tried to buy my own app - but that's not allowed.
So what can I do?
Thanks
Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. According to the Google documentation here about "Purchasing your own applications," it explicitly states that you can't buy your own apps. In the past, I've tested updates simply by installing over them because there really is not difference when it comes to updating. The private data doesn't get wiped and the user simply interacts with the upgraded app. Perhaps this article on getting the version of your application can help.
If you just want to check if the app updates correctly just install an older version of your paid app on your device and the market will then notify you that you have an update.
I am pretty sure there is nothing like a promo code in Android. Will do some more research and get back to you if I find something.
Google Play has now native support for promo codes.
