My Activity don't catch a search intent

I'm learning Android to do some projects for the college. I'm doing an app to look data on a web service. But my activity don't catch the search intent (or I thought it). I was following the Android Developer Guide: https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/search/search-dialog. I followed it, but my app doesn't work. I let here my code:

If you want to implement a search view listener try:

search.setOnQueryTextListener(new SearchView.OnQueryTextListener() {

Searchview with back button

I'm implementing searchview without Actionbar and toolbar. Everything is fixed, just back button remains. Below is my xml.

Use android.support.v7.widget.SearchView
Create a menu file like this in res/menu

why does the search icon not appear on action bar

i know this has been asked many times. i've gone through most of the questions here regarding the above problem. but they didn't really help. i can't find the problem in my code. so here is my code

Search on action bar does not call search activity

I am trying to make a search bar and I followed the tutorial on http://developer.android.com/training/search/setup.html. It does not work and SearchResultsActivity does not get called, so I immediately found the following question:
Search widget on action bar doesn't trigger my search activity. However, the solutions listed there (more specifically, adding meta-data inside in AndroidManifest.xml and using references to strings in xml/searchable.xml) do not solve my problem. I also tried putting meta-data in <activity> in AndroidManifest.xml and numerous other solutions to no avail.
What am I doing wrong?

Android - Spinning circle appears in Action Bar

So I have an action bar I am trying to learn and when I implement it I see this white spinning circle left of my first menu item. Why is this being shown here?

How can I get rid of this spinning circle before I publish the app? It is an ugly and annoying distraction to the app itself.

Try commenting out the line requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_INDETERMINATE_PROGRESS); in your onCreate() callback.
