I have been trying all the answers from stackoverflow but they seem to lead me nowhere. I tried to use other material compenents like material cardview and they were working fine. Please help.
This was confirmed to be a bug with MDC v1.1.0-alpha07. To fix it, just downgrade MDC to v1.0.0 and restart android studio. (clean and rebuild doesn't seem to work).

I have a setup of single activity, mutli feature module, that looks like this :
/app - A main module that contains the styles resource that inherits the material design ones, and the activity
/menu - Module feature with just a fragment and viewmodel
/other modules...
I am trying to run my Fragment in my Android Tests in isolation, which results in an error that the Material components (in this case CardView) have to have Material Theme as its style. Which does make sense, but I tried that.
Now I get this error

Which is self-explanatory, but here's the issue this is the layout and that it needs to inherit the material design style. Which it does. This is only the issue while running it in an isolated environment (the Tests) it otherwise works fine. I am guessing that the Fragment in a container doesn't have reference to the style, but I then added it to the CardView itself which confuses me further.

App theme is referenced in the manifest. And the style for the whole app is only in the app module, the Menu module doesn't have its style.xml file. The app contains the only activity of the project. I tried to find others having the same issue but no luck.
FragmentScenario API allows you to explicitly set desired theme for fragment container.
Having an application theme defined in styles.xml as AppTheme with attribute parent=Theme.MaterialComponents, a possible MenuFragment launch invocation would be as follows:
FragmentScenario.launchInContainer(MenuFragment.class, null, R.style.AppTheme, null);
Refer to FragmentScenario documentation for an explanation of the rest of the arguments that are outside of the scope of this answer.
Whenever I show a Toast, the app crashes.
The app works fine if I use older version of AppCompat library or remove fontFamily from the style.
onCreate:

Is there any alternative so that I can use the fontFamily attribute in theme using the latest version of AppCompat library?
Add font in Theme like below-

According to the Android Developer Guide for fonts in xml
Adding fonts to style
Open the styles.xml, and set the fontFamily attribute to the font file
you want to access.

In your case you should put the #font/ prefix

#font/sans-serif-light

So I'm getting an error inflating the layout, something about NoSuchMethodException. I've looked at other solutions to this and I've made sure that I've done the following, which I have, and I'm still getting the exception. Does anyone know what could be causing this??! I am completely lost, everything was working fine and then I updated my android studio and now I'm getting this error.
My activity is an AppCompatActivity
My app layout, using AppCompat:

My layout code, using app namespace for setting the background tint:
<android.support.design.widget.FloatingActionButton
android:id="#+id/fab"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="bottom|end"
android:layout_margin="#dimen/fab_margin"
android:src="#drawable/ic_add_white_18dp"
app:backgroundTint="#color/colorPrimary"
app:layout_behavior="Behaviors.ScrollAwareFABBehavior"/>
<include layout="#layout/content_main" />
This is my gradle build file:

I have exactly the some problem, it was random and it was today after mindlesly selecting "ok" on Android studio about something related to downloading stuff. :P
I tried to upgrate SDK build tools (without using them), and rebuilted the project but no luck.
Then, i upgraded to JAVA 1.8, moved to compileSdkVersion 24 and support library 24.2.1 and it worked.
So chances are that Google broke something on last update.
set compileSdkVersion to 24 and then change the
compile 'com.android.support:design:23.4.0'
to
compile 'com.android.support:design:24.2.0'
then sync your project, it will resolve the issue.
when i run the app! i got the more detail error!
Caused by: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: No direct method <init>(Landroid/widget/ImageView;Landroid/support/v7/widget/AppCompatDrawableManager;)V in class Landroid/support/v7/widget/AppCompatImageHelper; or its super classes (declaration of 'android.support.v7.widget.AppCompatImageHelper' appears in /data/data/com.weituotian.weituotianvideo/files/instant-run/dex/slice-com.android.support-appcompat-v7-25.0.0_850df7fcd98a57a963b231f15b37dc8c4ae3ee97-classes.dex)
so use the appcompatv7:25
I have tried almost everything out there to try and rectify this issue I am getting. Unfortunately, searches produce zero results. While in the design mode of Android Studio, if I click the area to change my theme I am met with a nasty error. Earlier versions of the app would cause the same issue on other systems. Since, I purchased an i5 with 8gb of RAM in hopes that the issues would be alleviated.

This issue occurs EVERY-TIME I try to select another theme. Is there something I am missing in the options that would save me here?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated...
Styles.xml (After clearing cache and rebuild)
<resources>

Go to you'r manifest and check you have there the same theme:
<application
android:allowBackup="true"
android:theme="#style/AppTheme">
Or maybe in you'r error try press on try adding all missing attributes.
I've got some problems with autoLink="phone" option of TextView.
My UI:

<TableLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/TableLayout1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<TextView
android:id="#+id/personPhone"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:autoLink="phone"
android:text="test" />
</TableLayout>
When i switching to Graphical Layout (in ADT) im getting following error:

Exception details are logged in Window > Show View > Error Log
The following classes could not be found:

If i remove
android:autoLink="phone"
error disappears.
Also if i change "phone" to "email", there wouldn't any errors, but "all" cause the same error.
I have the same behavior when i use API level 18 to render the view. It won't affect your program. As a workaround you can change the "API version to use when rendering in Eclipse" to 16 rather than 18 while working with layouts that include autolink. There is a button above the graphical view with a robot icon and a number which you can use to change that.
This bug also occurs in Android Studio and is being tracked in Android's issue tracker at http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=59497.
I have simple solution. you can use
tools: name space to override android name space for example you can use next code sample
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<TextView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:autoLink="all"
tools:autoLink="none"
/>
You need only that xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" and tools:autoLink="none"
This will be applyed only for preview rendering, you cant found that attributes on runtime
Also you can use that name space for other attributes, for ex.:
tools:text="Some text that visible only on preview"
