I have an app which uploads user image into Firebase storage.
After Intent from the local, the image shows properly in the imageView, but after uploading to Firebase, it gets rotated to landscape.
This is the code I tried.
private void updatePhoto() {
if(resultUri != null) {
final StorageReference filePath = FirebaseStorage.getInstance().getReference().child("profile_images").child(userID);
Bitmap bitmap = null;
try {
bitmap = MediaStore.Images.Media.getBitmap(getApplication().getContentResolver(), resultUri);
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
bitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 20, baos);
byte[] data = baos.toByteArray();
final UploadTask uploadTask = filePath.putBytes(data);
uploadTask.addOnFailureListener(e -> {
finish();
return;
});
final ProgressDialog progressDialog = new ProgressDialog(this);
progressDialog.setTitle("Uploading...");
progressDialog.show();
uploadTask.addOnSuccessListener(taskSnapshot -> {
filePath.getDownloadUrl().addOnSuccessListener(uri -> {
Map newImage = new HashMap();
newImage.put("profileImage", uri.toString());
userDatabase.updateChildren(newImage);
progressDialog.dismiss();
finish();
});
return;
});
}else{
finish();
}
}
This is my onActivityResult
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if(requestCode == 1 && resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK){
final Uri imageUri = data.getData();
resultUri = imageUri;
mProfileImage.setImageURI(resultUri);
}
}
Here's Code to correct Image Position before Upload to Firebase
Check If Image need to rotation
private fun rotateImageIfRequired( context:Context, img:Bitmap, selectedImage:Uri):Bitmap {
// Detect rotation
var rotation = getRotation( context, selectedImage)
if (rotation != 0) {
var matrix:Matrix = Matrix()
matrix.postRotate(rotation as Float)
var rotatedImg = Bitmap.createBitmap(img, 0, 0, img.getWidth(), img.getHeight(), matrix, true)
img.recycle()
return rotatedImg
}
else{
return img
}
}
Rotation Image
fun getRotation( context:Context, imageSelected: Uri):Int{
var rotation = 0
var content: ContentResolver = context.contentResolver
var arr:Array<String> = arrayOf("orientation","date_added")
val mediaCursor:Cursor = content.query(MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, arr,
null, null, "date_added desc")
if (mediaCursor != null && mediaCursor.getCount() != 0) {
while(mediaCursor.moveToNext()){
rotation = mediaCursor.getInt(0)
break
}
}
mediaCursor.close()
return rotation
}

I'm creating an android app where the user crops the image, the cropped image is shown and then has to be sent in the Result activity.
The problem I have is that when I send the image, it sends me the original uncropped image.
So I wonder, am I wrong something or the image is not really cropped?
Can anyone help me figure out how to display the cropped image in the Result activity?
Thank you so much for your help guys.

}
try {

fo.close();// close file output
} catch (IOException e) {

}
return fileName;
}
}
Here's where I'm trying to upload the photo:

Bitmap bitmapx = iv.getDrawingCache();
Intent intent = new Intent(this, MainActivity.class);

and Here is where I am trying to load the saved pic:

{
ImageView ivHeader = (ImageView) mNavigationView.getHeaderView(0).findViewById(R.id.ivHeader);
try{
bitmap= BitmapFactory.decodeStream(this.openFileInput(PIC_FILE_NAME));
ivHeader.setImageBitmap(bitmap);
}
catch (FileNotFoundException e){
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(),"error occured",Toast.LENGTH_LONG);
}
}
I have to say that the Toast message is not shown and There are no errors. App not crashing but the pic stays with no change.
Make sure you have external read storage permission. Here is how to request permission.
PS: Also make sure you have added that permission to AndroidManifest.xml
I am trying to develop some kind of OCR application with Text Recognizing feature. I wrote and found some codes which is working properly but my problem is I want make some customization in the camera layout. I want to add my own capture button and add a frame. No, you cannot change the layout of the camera app that fulfills ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE intent. Actually, different devices will not have same camera apps. Each may have very different look-and-feel. You need a 'custom camera' to control its layout and UX.
I have written a program which has a button which when clicked captures a photo through camera and want to set the captured image on the same activity below the button.
Everything works without giving an error. The image is also getting saved to the respective location. But the image is not getting displayed, which means something is going wrong.
Below is my Code for the above :
public class MainActivity extends ActionBarActivity {
Button b1;
private File imageFile;
ImageView img;
private Uri uri;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
b1 = (Button) findViewById(R.id.buttonPicture);
img = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.imageView1);
b1.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
imageFile = new File(
Environment
.getExternalStoragePublicDirectory(Environment.DIRECTORY_PICTURES),
"test.jpeg");
uri = Uri.fromFile(imageFile);
intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, uri);
intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_VIDEO_QUALITY, 1);
startActivityForResult(intent, 0);
}
});
}
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
if (requestCode == 0 && data != null) {
switch (resultCode) {
case Activity.RESULT_OK:
if (imageFile.exists()) {
Bitmap photo = (Bitmap) data.getExtras().get(
MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT);
previewCapturedImage();
img.setImageBitmap(photo);
} else {
Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(), "File was not saved",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
break;
case Activity.RESULT_CANCELED:
break;
default:
break;
}
}
}
private void previewCapturedImage() {
try {
// bimatp factory
BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
// downsizing image as it throws OutOfMemory Exception for larger
options.inSampleSize = 8;
final Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(uri.getPath(),
options);
img.setImageBitmap(bitmap);
} catch (NullPointerException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
}
Once you press Ok button after capturing image, you can take the captured image from the Extras using Intent(data in your case) parameter received through onActivityResult
Simply use this code inside onActivityResult
Bitmap photo = (Bitmap) data.getExtras().get("data");
imgViewLogo.setImageBitmap(photo);
Try with below code:
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
if (requestCode == 0 && data != null) {
switch (resultCode) {
case Activity.RESULT_OK:
if (imageFile.exists()) {
private String selectedImagePath;
Uri selectedImageUri = data.getData();
String filePath = null;
String filemanagerstring = selectedImageUri.getPath();
selectedImagePath = getPath(selectedImageUri);
if (selectedImagePath != null) {
filePath = selectedImagePath;
} else if (filemanagerstring != null) {
filePath = filemanagerstring;
} else {
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), R.string.unknownPath, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
if (filePath != null) {
decodeFile(filePath);
} else {
bitmap = null;
}
} else {
Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(), "File was not saved",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
break;
case Activity.RESULT_CANCELED:
break;
default:
break;
}
}
}
//getPath method
public String getPath(Uri uri) {
String[] projection = { MediaColumns.DATA };
Cursor cursor = managedQuery(uri, projection, null, null, null);
if (cursor != null) {
int column_index = cursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaColumns.DATA);
cursor.moveToFirst();
return cursor.getString(column_index);
} else
return null;
}
//decodeFile method
public void decodeFile(String filePath) {
private Bitmap bitmap;
try {
File f = new File(filePath);
ExifInterface exif = new ExifInterface(f.getPath());
int orientation = exif.getAttributeInt(ExifInterface.TAG_ORIENTATION, ExifInterface.ORIENTATION_NORMAL);
int angle = 0;
if (orientation == ExifInterface.ORIENTATION_ROTATE_90) {
angle = 90;
} else if (orientation == ExifInterface.ORIENTATION_ROTATE_180) {
angle = 180;
} else if (orientation == ExifInterface.ORIENTATION_ROTATE_270) {
angle = 270;
}
Matrix mat = new Matrix();
mat.postRotate(angle);
BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
options.inSampleSize = 2;
Bitmap bmp = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(new FileInputStream(f), null, options);
bitmap = Bitmap.createBitmap(bmp, 0, 0, bmp.getWidth(), bmp.getHeight(), mat, true);
ByteArrayOutputStream outstudentstreamOutputStream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
bitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.PNG, 100, outstudentstreamOutputStream);

I have a question about how to take an image using the camera intent (or camera API) and then bring the image into an imageView for me to display in my application. This is what I have so far.
I setup a button
Button btnPicture = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btn_picture);
btnPicture.setOnClickListener(this);
I setup a Camera method
private void Camera() {
Intent intent = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
startActivityForResult(intent, TAKE_PICTURE_CODE);
intent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT);
intent.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_OPENABLE);
startActivityForResult(intent, REQUEST_CODE);
}
And this is where I am lost. I am trying to process the image that I took.
private void processImage(Intent intent) {
setContentView(R.layout.imagelayout);
ImageView imageView = (ImageView)findViewById(R.id.image_view);
cameraBitmap = (Bitmap)intent.getExtras().get("data");
imageView.setImageBitmap(cameraBitmap);
}
My intent is to display the image that you took inside image_view. I am not receiving an error, nothing happens. When I take the picture, I am asked to either take another picture or after I use the device back button the application force closes. It seems that I am taken out of my application completely, and returning is a big issue. Any suggestions? What am I missing?
O yea, and here is my onActivityResult
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if(TAKE_PICTURE_CODE == requestCode) {
Bundle extras = data.getExtras();
if (extras.containsKey("data")) {
Bitmap bmp = (Bitmap) extras.get("data");
ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
bmp.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.PNG, 100, baos);
byte[] image = baos.toByteArray();
if (image != null) {
Log.d(TAG, "image != null");
}
} else {
Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(), "Fail to capture image", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
}
}
I am trying to put the image in getExtras, and then store it to a ByteArray. Was another thing I was trying to do. Not sure how it all comes together.
The method which i found to be easy and helpful is this:
MainActivity
private static String root = null;
private static String imageFolderPath = null;
private String imageName = null;
private static Uri fileUri = null;
private static final int CAMERA_IMAGE_REQUEST=1;
public void captureImage(View view) {
ImageView imageView = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.capturedImageview);
// fetching the root directory
root = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().toString()
+ "/Your_Folder";
// Creating folders for Image
imageFolderPath = root + "/saved_images";
File imagesFolder = new File(imageFolderPath);
imagesFolder.mkdirs();
// Generating file name
imageName = "test.png";
// Creating image here
File image = new File(imageFolderPath, imageName);
fileUri = Uri.fromFile(image);
imageView.setTag(imageFolderPath + File.separator + imageName);
Intent takePictureIntent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
takePictureIntent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, fileUri);
startActivityForResult(takePictureIntent,
CAMERA_IMAGE_REQUEST);
}
and then in your activity onActivityResult method:
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if (resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
switch (requestCode) {
case CAMERA_IMAGE_REQUEST:
Bitmap bitmap = null;
try {
GetImageThumbnail getImageThumbnail = new GetImageThumbnail();
bitmap = getImageThumbnail.getThumbnail(fileUri, this);
} catch (FileNotFoundException e1) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e1.printStackTrace();
} catch (IOException e1) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e1.printStackTrace();
}
// Setting image image icon on the imageview
ImageView imageView = (ImageView) this
.findViewById(R.id.capturedImageview);
imageView.setImageBitmap(bitmap);
break;
default:
Toast.makeText(this, "Something went wrong...",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
break;
}
}
}
GetImageThumbnail.java
public class GetImageThumbnail {
private static int getPowerOfTwoForSampleRatio(double ratio) {
int k = Integer.highestOneBit((int) Math.floor(ratio));
if (k == 0)
return 1;
else
return k;
}
public Bitmap getThumbnail(Uri uri, Context context)
throws FileNotFoundException, IOException {
InputStream input = context.getContentResolver().openInputStream(uri);
BitmapFactory.Options onlyBoundsOptions = new BitmapFactory.Options();
onlyBoundsOptions.inJustDecodeBounds = true;
onlyBoundsOptions.inDither = true;// optional
onlyBoundsOptions.inPreferredConfig = Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888;// optional
BitmapFactory.decodeStream(input, null, onlyBoundsOptions);
input.close();
if ((onlyBoundsOptions.outWidth == -1)
|| (onlyBoundsOptions.outHeight == -1))
return null;
int originalSize = (onlyBoundsOptions.outHeight > onlyBoundsOptions.outWidth) ? onlyBoundsOptions.outHeight
: onlyBoundsOptions.outWidth;
double ratio = (originalSize > 400) ? (originalSize / 350) : 1.0;
BitmapFactory.Options bitmapOptions = new BitmapFactory.Options();
bitmapOptions.inSampleSize = getPowerOfTwoForSampleRatio(ratio);
bitmapOptions.inDither = true;// optional
bitmapOptions.inPreferredConfig = Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888;// optional
input = context.getContentResolver().openInputStream(uri);
Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(input, null, bitmapOptions);
input.close();
return bitmap;
}
}
and then on the ImageView onclick method will be like this:
public void showFullImage(View view) {
String path = (String) view.getTag();
if (path != null) {
Intent intent = new Intent();
intent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
Uri imgUri = Uri.parse("file://" + path);
intent.setDataAndType(imgUri, "image/*");
startActivity(intent);
}
}
To take photo correctly you should store it in temp file, because data in result intent can be null:
final Intent pickIntent = new Intent();
pickIntent.setType("image/*");
pickIntent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT);
final String pickTitle = activity.getString(R.string.choose_image);
final Intent chooserIntent = Intent.createChooser(pickIntent, pickTitle);
if (AvailabilityUtils.isExternalStorageReady()) {
final Intent takePhotoIntent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
final Uri fileUri = getCameraTempFileUri(activity, true);
takePhotoIntent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, fileUri);
chooserIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_INITIAL_INTENTS,
new Intent[] { takePhotoIntent });
}
activity.startActivityForResult(chooserIntent, REQUEST_CODE);
And then get photo from Uri:
if (requestCode == ProfileDataView.REQUEST_CODE
&& resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK) {
final Uri dataUri = data == null ? getCameraTempFileUri(context,
false) : data.getData();
final ParcelFileDescriptor pfd = context.getContentResolver()
.openFileDescriptor(imageUri, "r");
final FileDescriptor fd = pfd.getFileDescriptor();
final Bitmap bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeFileDescriptor(fd);
}
