Android SDK broken after Visual Studio 2019 update - android

I have been creating a Xamarin forms application using Visual studio 2019 for the past two months now however after completing the latest update for Visual Studio 2019, I am now receiving the following error when trying to build the application.
Error Xamarin.Android for Visual Studio requires Android SDK. Please click here to configure.
I thought that possibly the update had uninstalled Android SDK however below you can see that Android SDk is in fact installed.
As well as this, emulator 28.0.25 is also installed. Has anyone else had any issues with the Android SDK after the latest Visual Studio update?
I have read here that uninstalling the SDK should fix this issue however what do I uninstall? Would this be the Android SDK Tools + Android SDK Platform-tools + Android SDK Build-Tools?

To fix this issue I uninstalled Android SDK Tools, Android SDK Platform-Tools and Android SDK Build-Tools and re-installed them. I then got the same error however looking into the logs located in C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Local\Xamarin\Logs\XamarinDeviceManager
I found that there was a big error log stating how Component Android SDK Platforms were not found on the system.
I closed Visual Studio, cleaned the solution and built it and it seems to have fixed the bug.

Visual Studio android sdk newer version is requied

In Visual Studio 2015 with Xamarin I installed android SDK and updated it. Android SDK manager says, that I have tools version 25.2.3:
.
But Visual Studio still shows up a message that I must update it:
.
Thanks for help.
I've came across the same problem yesterday, to solve this issue, you must download the Android 6.0(API 23). After that the designer should work just fine.

Can’t open Xamarin Android .axml file: The installed Android SDK is too old. Version 25.1.3 or newer is required. Please update to the latest version

I'm using Visual Studio and am unable to open layout files in the Xamarin Android Designer. I get this error when I try:
Something went wrong
The installed Android SDK is too old. Version 25.1.3 or newer is required. Please update to the latest
version.
I’ve already updated Xamarin, and am still stuck. How can this be fixed?
I recently ran into The installed Android SDK is too old. Version 25.1.3 or newer is required. Please update to the latest version. myself and found that I had to update the Android SDK in two stages to get things working.
As other users have mentioned, only updates for version 24.x.x were showing, while version 25.x.x was nowhere to be found. I installed the available updates for Tools, Platform-Tools, and Build-Tools, then exited and reopened the Android SDK Manager. This worked; version 25.x.x was now available for installation.
tl, dr;
Install 64-bit JDK 1.8
Update Android SDK Tools, Platform-tools, and Build-tools. Close SDK Manager and repeat if the version required in the warning isn’t
shown. You may need to exit Visual Studio if you get "Warning! A
folder failed to be moved"
Make sure the Android settings in Visual Studio are pointing to the
right locations: Tools > Options > Xamarin > Android Settings
Keep the Xamarin installation up to date! Tools > Options > Xamarin > Other > “Check Now”
Unsure if that was a one-off, I decided to do a fresh Xamarin installation with Visual Studio 2015 on Windows 10. Here is how I reproduced the issue and got back to working with layout files. This is long and these steps can probably be streamlined, but I wanted to give a clear picture of what I did.
Here is my step-by-step process:
Download Xamarin for Windows
Update to Xamarin latest Stable: Tools > Options > Xamarin > Other > “Check Now”
Open Android SDK Manager, update Build-tools from v23.0.3 to v24.0.3
Uninstall Build-tools v23.0.3, close SDK Manager
Close & reopen layout file, get "too old" message
Open SDK Manager, update to Build-tools v25, uninstall Build-tools v24.0.3
Close SDK manager & layout file
Reopen open layout file, get same message
Open SDK Manager, update to Platform-tools v25
Close SDK Manager & layout file
Reopen layout file, still too old
Open SDK Manager, update SDK Tools from v25.1.2 to v25.2.2
Here, I got the same warning mentioned in another SO post
Carrying on:
Exit Visual Studio; dismiss warning and process continues fine
The warning came back; dismissing again allows process to complete
Close SDK Manager, open Visual Studio, load Android project, open and layout file. Success! I can view layout files again.
There are a few additional things I’d like to mention to minimize potential snags/confusion:
Android Studio is not required. In addition to the prompt in the “SDK is too old” message, the Android SDK Manager can be opened via Tools > Android > Android SDK Manager or the SDK Manager toolbar icon.
My personal practice is to have only one version of the Build-tools installed to help minimize potential conflict or upstream issues, such as a couple that came up while using “version 24”.
Xamarin.Android 7.0 requires JDK 1.8. If you have not already done so, consider installing 64-bit JDK 1.8. This is the simplest option since it is backwards compatible with all previous API levels, it supports the new Android designer features, and the 64-bit version is required to use custom controls in the Android designer.
After updating, go to Tools > Options > Xamarin > Android Settings to verify that the correct locations are pointed to for the JDK, Android SDK, and Android NDK.
I’d also like to note that Android SDK updates are not specific to Xamarin. If we’re developing for Android, we need these tools for things like emulators, debugging, signing APKs, and accessing the newest platform features, whether using Xamarin or not.
For the curious, more details can be found here:
- Android Studio Command Line Tools doc
- What are the Android SDK build-tools, platform-tools and tools? And which version should be used?
I've solved this problem. First, download Android SDK tool 25.1.3 from Google here and extract it.
Then, remove the existing 'tools' folder under SDK like D:\\android-sdk\tools.
After removing it, put the 'tools' folder you recently extracted under the android-sdk path.
Finally, restart your vs. This is working sucessfully for me. I'm running on Windows 7 32-bit.

Xamarin - disconnected from layout renderer

I just downloaded xamarin studio. I get an error message "disconnected from layout renderer please close the file and try again" whenever i open a axml in the layout folder. I can view the source but can't go to the design tab to add controls. Closing the filed does not work.
I'm not sure how to find what version of xamarin.android i'm using but I just downloaded last night. When I go to the SDK manager it tells me my Android SDK Tools are version 23.0.4.
I found this old thread on the same topic. I tried renaming my tools folder and downgrading but that didnt' work either. It told me I need tools of at least version 22.
http://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/14344/disconnected-from-layout-renderer-error-after-updating-android-sdk-tools-to-version-22-6
I've tried uninstalling Xamarin Studio and reinstalling and that didn't help. I do have Visual Studio 2013 with update 3 installed too. But then I also tried installing Xamarin Studio on another laptop with Visual Studio 2012 and got the exact same problem.
Note: this error displays in both Visual Studio and Xamarin Studio.
I really hope I can get this resolved as i'm evaluating Xamarin for 2 companies. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Only this time, you need to downgrade from 23.0.4 to 23.0.2.
Just found this out the hard way.
Cheers
Thank you Balint! You made my weekend!!! Here is a direct link to the tools version that works.

I recently had this same issue when trying to open the main.xaml in Xamarin Studio for Mac OS X. Here are the steps I took to resolve the problem:
Open the Android SDK Manager in Xamarin Studio and delete the Android SDK Tools.
Re-download the SDK Tools from [https://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html?hl=i]. Revision 23.0.2
Make sure the downloaded SDK is unzipped in the path /Users/username/Library/Developer/Xamarin/android-sdk-macosx
Then I launched the SDK Manager from the Terminal using cd library/developer/xamarin/android-sdk-macosx/tools ./android
When the SDK launches, make sure the Android SDK Tools is not selected, else it will update it to 23.0.5 which appears to currently be broken.
After the SDK Manager updates and installs all the packages, re-open Xamarin Studio and go to Preferences -> SDK Locations -> Android and chose the path for the Android SDK.
After following these steps I was able to successfully open the main.xaml files for Android on OS X.

Titanium doesn't recognize Android SDK on Windows

Titanium doesn't recognize Android SDK on Windows
My problem is that Titanium Studio doesn't see my installed Android Platforms. I've tried removing and reinstalling everything via Titanium Studio but that won't make any difference.
Here's a screenshot of the SDK Manager: http://imgur.com/5F5oF
Titanium Studio Screenshot: http://imgur.com/w7j7n
Titanium Studio Details:
Titanium Studio, build: 1.0.8.201201262211
Build: jenkins-titanium-rcp-master-136 (origin/master)
Date: 26 January 2012, 22:14:21
OS Information:
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
Problem in Titanium Studio:
One or more pieces are missing from the Android SDK.
It may be that the Android SDK is already installed
and Titanium Studio cannot locate the directory, or
it may be that some additional components need to be installed.
Items required:
•An Android SDK is missing. Titanium requires Android platforms 2.1.* and 2.2.*
We just spent a couple days wrestling with this problem. The issue is with the latest version of the mobile sdk that you've installed. Titanium Studio actually uses the following script to validate the Android SDK path in the configuration window:
MAC path looks like this:
/Library/Application Support/Titanium/mobilesdk/osx/sdk_version_number_here/android/avd.py
Based on your post, your path is probably something like:
C:\Users\Dean\AppData\Roaming\Titanium\mobilesdk\win32\sdk_version_number_here\android\avd.py
If you browse to the folder and look for that script, it's probably missing. We just deleted that version of the sdk (for us it was 2.0.1.GA2). Then went to Help -> Check for Updates to reinstall the latest version.
Can you try installing all the api levels. SDK level 10-15.
Hopefully that would help. I am also running Titanium on the same version of windows, and it works fine.
This looks crazy, but you need to install sdk 7 and 8, with the google APIs. I think that they have code nested to these SDK. Check twice that you accept the licence with Google API.
Here is the complete guide of installing Titanium with Android.
I broke my head for 2 days on the very same problem, and the solution is quite simple:
Titanium 3.2 and above does not work with android sdk in Windows.
Downgrade to 3.1.3 and everything will be just fine

Eclipse crashes on Android SDK and AVD Manager

I tried to install Android SDK plugin on my existing Eclipse Classic 3.6.0 (Helios). I managed to do everything else, but when I try to add components using Android SDK and AVD Manager in Eclipse, whole Eclipse just crashes.
Anyone have any idea what's going on?
