UPDATE
My problem in generall is connected with safe-types at kotlin. I think that it will be solved by adding ? or !! but I don't kno where I have to add this.

Solved, the reason I got a crush in production is that I used "minifyEnabled true" and I did not add the okhttp proguard rules.

Update to androidx.appcompat:appcompat:1.3.0 causing 'indexOutOfBounds' crash

I recently updated my dependencies, including updating androidx.appCompat from 1.2.0 to 1.3.0. It took some digging to figure out that this is what was causing my crash.
The crash doesn't occur until the user clicks on a MaterialCardView to transition to a new fragment on the home page.
Removing the dependency update resolved my issue. Does anyone know what in androidx.appcompat:appcompat:1.3.0 might be causing this? Here's the crash log:

Any idea why is it crashing?
AudioRecord is not initialized, its null, you can see e in the first line
02-22 20:22:42.863 4637-5379/? E/AudioProvider: AudioRecord is null, can't start recording
Their is some mistake in layout/.xml file i.e designing part, check that properly.
In my case i got it because i was VerticalViewPager in main activity but in xml i passed it as viewpager.

I had the same problem but with androidx orchestrator. I was getting the same exception but the package was different:
Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: Cannot connect to androidx.test.orchestrator.OrchestratorService.
I have found the description of possbile root cause in this github thread. There's an iteresting discussion, but it seems that there's no general solution for this yet.
For me the problem was caused by setting the target sdk to 30 and launching the app on an android 30 emulator. So launching tests on emulator with api < 30 resolved this.
