Bottom Rounded Corners - Android - android

I have been trying to fix this but for whatever I do, I just cannot get the Bottom Rounded Corners the way I want, I am using the following
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<stroke android:width="0dp" />
<solid android:color="?attr/colorPrimaryDark" />
</shape>
</item>
<item android:top="0dp" android:bottom="1dp">
<shape
android:shape="rectangle">
<stroke android:width="0dp"/>
<solid android:color="?attr/colorPrimary"/>
<corners android:radius="15dp" android:bottomRightRadius="15dp" android:bottomLeftRadius="15dp" android:topLeftRadius="0dp" android:topRightRadius="0dp"/>
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
The Results are the following
It creates the corners but it adds grey color (colorPrimaryDark) to it where I want it to be white (colorPrimary") with a grey line - Any idea how I accomplish this?

A little hack is possible to get rid of line on top and sides: set negative offsets.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item
android:left="-1dp"
android:right="-1dp"
android:top="-1dp">
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="?attr/colorPrimaryDark" />
<solid android:color="?attr/colorPrimary" />
<corners
android:bottomLeftRadius="15dp"
android:bottomRightRadius="15dp"
android:radius="15dp"
android:topLeftRadius="0dp"
android:topRightRadius="0dp" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
Not sure will it work correctly on all devices / Android versions or not.

If you only want bottom border a Shape drawable will be enough . You do not need a layer-list for it .
try this
<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<stroke android:width="1dp" android:color="#color/green"/>
<solid android:color="?attr/colorPrimary" />
<corners
android:bottomLeftRadius="15dp"
android:bottomRightRadius="15dp" />
</shape>
The problem with your current code is first item have a solid color set . this is why the gray part showing .

Rectangle in xml without bottom side

I have a shape rectangle in my drawable like this
<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:shape="rectangle">
<corners
android:radius="2dp"
android:topRightRadius="0dp"
android:bottomRightRadius="0dp"
android:bottomLeftRadius="0dp"/>
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="#android:color/white"
/>
</shape>
How, can I hide bottom line ?
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!-- inset is used to remove border from top, it can remove border from any other side-->
<inset xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:insetTop="-2dp">
<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="#+id/rectangle">
<stroke android:width="1dp" android:color="#b7b7b7" />
<corners android:bottomRightRadius="5dp" android:bottomLeftRadius="5dp"/>
<solid android:color="#454444"/>
</shape>
</inset>
use this code
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<!-- the line -->
<item>
<shape>
<solid android:color="#yourColor"
/>
</shape>
</item>
<!-- This is full view -->
<item android:bottom="10dp">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#backGroundColor" />
</shape>
</item>
this will add a 10dp height line at bottom of your view , u can change size of the line with
<item android:bottom="10dp">
and change color too
good luck

How to add a drop shadow to a Rectangular Shape in Android

I am developing an Android App in which I need to use a Rectangular shape which should have a drop_shadow. I have designed a rectangular shape but somehow i am not able to add a drop shadow to it on (right and left sides).
P.S.: this rectangular shape is added as a background attribute.
If this type of Question is already been answered then please provide the links here.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!!
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<solid android:color="#ffffff" />
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="#000000" />
<corners
android:radius="10dp" >
</corners>
</shape>
Try this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#CABBBBBB"/>
<corners android:radius="2dp" />
</shape>
</item>
<item
android:left="0dp"
android:right="1dp"
android:top="0dp"
android:bottom="2dp">
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#android:color/white"/>
<corners android:radius="1dp" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>

Create multiple rectangle shape in a xml file

I have create a shape.xml in android project. In this xml file i have a rectangle shape design with border.This is working fine. I need to create a another rectangle shape with left border in the same xml. Is this possible or not. If its possible means how can i refer the two diff shape in layout page.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle" >
<stroke
android:height="2dp"
android:width="2dp"
android:color="#FF0000" />
<solid android:color="#000000" />
<padding
android:bottom="1dp"
android:left="1dp"
android:right="1dp"
android:top="1dp" />
<corners
android:bottomLeftRadius="0dp"
android:bottomRightRadius="5dp"
android:radius="1dp"
android:topLeftRadius="5dp"
android:topRightRadius="0dp" />
</shape>

Shape drawable as background, a line at the bottom

I am using a drawable as a background of a TextView just to have a divider line below the text. A achivied it with this drawable-xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >
<item>
<shape
android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#FFDDDDDD" />
<gradient
android:angle="0"
android:startColor="#FFAAAAAA"
android:endColor="#FFEEEEEE"
/>
</shape>
</item>
<item android:bottom="2dp">
<shape
android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#FF000000" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
But this method draws a colored rectangle above a black rectangle. I would like to have just the line at the bottom of the shape with no black rectangle because black is not transparent. How could I achieve that?
This is how I got a line at the bottom for mine. Draw a stroke but then shift the item up and to the sides to get the top and sides to not show the stroke:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:top="-8dp" android:left="-8dp" android:right="-8dp">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#2b7996"/>
<stroke android:color="#33b5e5" android:width="6dp"/>
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
I think it's better solution:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >
<item android:gravity="bottom">
<shape>
<size android:height="1dp" />
<solid android:color="#000000" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
In general, I try to mess as little as possible with backgrounds unless absolutely necessary, since doing so overrides the default background colors that have states for focused, pressed, etc. I suggest just using an additional view (in a vertical LinearLayout) that is as thick as you need it to be. For example:
<View
android:background="#FF000000"
android:layout_height="2dp"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"/>
Usually for similar tasks - I created layer-list drawable like this one:
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#color/underlineColor"/>
</shape>
</item>
<item android:bottom="3dp">
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#color/buttonColor"/>
</shape>
</item>
The idea is that first you draw the rectangle with underlineColor and then on top of this one you draw another rectangle with the actual buttonColor but applying bottomPadding. It always works.
But when I needed to have buttonColor to be transparent I couldn't use the above drawable. I found one more solution
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent"/>
</shape>
</item>
<item android:drawable="#drawable/white_box" android:gravity="bottom" android:height="2dp"/>
</layer-list>
(as you can see here the mainButtonColor is transparent and white_box is just a simple rectangle drawable with white Solid)
With this solution where ever you require different line you can. My requirement was underline only. Even you can give different colors to the layout. You can see in below picture, white line
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:top="-5dp" android:left="-5dp" android:right="-5dp">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent"/>
<stroke android:color="#color/white" android:width="5dp"/>
</shape>
</item>
<item android:top="-5dp" android:bottom="-5dp" android:right="-5dp">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent"/>
<stroke android:color="#color/colorPrimaryDark" android:width="5dp"/>
</shape>
</item>
<item android:bottom="-5dp" android:left="-5dp" android:right="-5dp">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent"/>
<stroke android:color="#color/colorPrimaryDark" android:width="5dp"/>
</shape>
</item>
<item android:top="-5dp" android:left="-5dp" android:bottom="-5dp">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent"/>
<stroke android:color="#color/colorPrimaryDark" android:width="5dp"/>
</shape>
</item>
<item android:bottom="2dp" android:left="5dp" android:right="5dp" android:top="5dp">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#color/colorPrimary"/>
<corners android:bottomRightRadius="0dp"
android:bottomLeftRadius="0dp"
android:topLeftRadius="0dp"
android:topRightRadius="0dp" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
This is a slightly lighter variant of the above.
/drawable/rect_highlight.xml
<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:shape="rectangle">
<stroke android:width="1px" android:color="#color/colorHighlight"/>
</shape>
/drawable/underline.xml
<inset xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:insetLeft="-1px" android:insetRight="-1px" android:insetTop="-1px" android:drawable="#drawable/rect_highlight"/>
Usage:
<TextView ... android:background="#drawable/underline"/>
It's not mine, somebody smarter than I came up with it. If I was smarter, I would have asked who. :)
This solution worked for most of the cases that I needed something like that.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent" /> <!--background color of box-->
</shape>
</item>
<item
android:height="2dp"
android:gravity="bottom">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#000000" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
A simple solution is extending a TextView, then override the onDraw.
#Override
protected void onDraw(Canvas canvas) {
super.onDraw(canvas);
Paint paint = new Paint();
paint.setColor(ContextCompat.getColor(getContext(),R.color.colorTextUnderLine));
paint.setStrokeWidth(10);
canvas.drawLine(0.0f,canvas.getHeight(),canvas.getWidth(),canvas.getHeight(),
paint);
}

Applying background image to a shape

I dont know whether I am asking is wrong or not.
But can I have an image in this shape xml so that if provide an image then it's corners become rounded.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<corners android:radius="5dp" />
<solid android:color="#F87217"/>
<stroke
android:width="1dip"
android:color="#f0f0f0" />
</shape>
You may try this
<item
android:drawable="#drawable/ic_broadcast"
android:left="3px"
android:right="3px"
android:top="3px">
<shape android:shape="rectangle" >
<solid android:color="#cc2b2b" />
<corners android:radius="8dp" />
</shape>
</item>
ic_broadcast is an image from your res folder
