Opening image with Intent through absolute file path - android

I am new to android development.
I am trying to open the default gallery app to view an image like this:
Uri u = Uri.parse((String) gridView.getAdapter().getItem(position);
Intent i = new Intent();
i.setDataAndType(u, "image/*");
i.setAction(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
i.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_GRANT_READ_URI_PERMISSION);
startActivity(i);
I provide the file paths to my images like this:
/storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Images/IMG-20191023-WA0045.jpg
/storage/emulated/0/Pictures/9GAG/1565987862000.jpg
My App and Google Photos can display the image given this path, the Samsung Gallery( tested on Android Oreo) or the Xiaomi Gallery App (tested on Android X) can't find the image; also if i try to add "content://" or "file://" at the beginning.
I suspect that the apps want to have a Content URI or some kind of symbolic link without the "/storage/emulated/0/" part instead of a File URI. I searched for methods to get the content URI out of the file path, but didn't find any examples for Android X.
So what is the correct URI to pass on through the Intent and how do i get it?
Or maybe somebody knows a better way to just open the gallery app to a specific picture i provide by an absolute file path (Both External Storage and SD Card)?
Thank you in advance and greetings!

copied from this question here , this might work for you
startActivity(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("content://media/external/images/media/16"))); /** replace with your own uri */

Android Intent.ACTION_VIEW in a specific folder show others folder's files

i have a little problem, I need show the images/videos form a specific folder via default gallery, but when i throw the intent, the gallery not shows only files from the folder that i pass to te data intent, the gallery shows all images to the device. The code that i use is:
Uri selectedUri = Uri.parse(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().toString() + "/DCIM/folder/");
Intent intent = new Intent();
intent.setAction(android.content.Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
intent.setData(selectedUri);
intent.setType("image/*");
intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
startActivity(intent);
I need show the images/videos form a specific folder via default gallery
That is not possible. There are thousands of device models. These ship with hundreds of different "default gallery" apps. None of them have to have some sort of API to allow you to request that they view some directory's worth of images.
Activities responding to ACTION_VIEW with a MIME type of image/* will expect that the Uri points to a single image. There is no MIME type for a directory, and there is no requirement that any gallery app honor such a MIME type even if one existed.

Unable sharing image in android

I am new in android Java. I am trying to share an image in android application using Phonegap. I get new class "Share" as CordovaPlugin, code is follow...
Intent share = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_SEND);
share.setType("image/*");
Uri uri = Uri.parse("file:///android_asset/www/sharethis.png");
share.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, uri);
Above code is not working, it showing like this ...
is think i cant get Exact image file location. My file location
I tried bellow code also, But not work,
String imagePath = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()
+ "/assets/www/sharethis.png";
Please Help
Android asset folder is private to your app so you can't share files from there directly. You need to copy the file from assets to a public directory in the filesystem and then send the share intent pointing to the public file. Have a look here

Intent with ACTION_VIEW and uri pointing to a ParcelFileDescriptor in EXTRA_STREAM

what is the correct way how I should form the intent to show content from my app in 3rd party viewers? I need to show images in gallery (or any other image viewer), pdfs in some pdf reader,..
Data gets server through a content provider which implements the openFile() method and returns a output pipe..
ParcelFileDescriptor[] pipe=ParcelFileDescriptor.createPipe();
...
ParcelFileDescriptor.AutoCloseOutputStream stream = new ParcelFileDescriptor.AutoCloseOutputStream(pipe[1]);
PipeThread pipeThread = new PipeThread(fileContents, stream);
pipeThread.start();
return pipe[0];
For images I use this:
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
intent.setType("image/*");
intent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, uri);
I'm creating then a chooser for this intent as usual that's not the issue..
My problem is that although I see for example the Photos app in the chooser, I just cannot open the file in it..It just only opens the gallery with my images.
It's working when I use the action send, apps like gmail, drive, dropbox,..all of them are able to correctly read the image from the provider.
Also Skitch seems to be the only one app which I have tested it on that is able to open the image also using the Intent.ACTION_VIEW action..
Please don't tell me I should just send the URI, I really need to provide the file as a stream, or somehow as a serie of bytes (IPC limitations would be probably against this). I can't save the file to a public directory.
So the issue was that have been setting Intent type and data in two separate method calls..
What I didn't know is that Intent.setType() clears its data and Intent.setData() clears its type..
When I set both data and type through the Intent.setDataAndType() method call, it works even for URI pointing to a stream.
Unfortunately the final implementation is still not working flawlessly everywhere.
It works in default android gallery app, in G+ Photos app, in QuickPic, in Sony gallery app, but it does not work in default HTC gallery neither in default Samsung gallery.
Its just a pity, that its actually not that much dependent on my implementation as on how is it implemented in the 3rd party viewer app.

Android Java: Get Bitmap in Gallery

I have a Bitmap saved in the directory: Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()+ File.separator + "Images" in a subdirectory. With a fileManager i can find the image and open it. But in the Gallery of the Smartphone i can't find the Image.
How can i get it there?
To be make you file known by the Gallery you need to call the MediaScanner:
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_SCANNER_SCAN_FILE);
intent.setData(Uri.fromFile(file));
sendBroadcast(intent);
See also: https://www.grokkingandroid.com/adding-files-to-androids-media-library-using-the-mediascanner/
You can actually directly access the Pictures directory. To do this, use
getExternalStoragePublicDirectory(String type)
, where type is equal to Environment.DIRECTORY_PICTURES.
See http://developer.android.com/reference/android/os/Environment.html#getExternalStoragePublicDirectory%28java.lang.String%29 for more info.
That's cleaner than supposing that pictures are always stored in a directory called "Images"...
Now to force the Gallery to register the change, look at https://stackoverflow.com/a/15837638/2984973 .
To quote the answer, you want to broadcast an intent specifying your new picture, likewise:
sendBroadcast(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_SCANNER_SCAN_FILE, Uri.fromFile(myNewFile)));

Opening Image File gives error in Android

I am trying to open a jpg image file in gallery. This gives a error. I am using the code below
Intent intent = new Intent();
intent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
intent.setDataAndType(Uri.parse("/mnt/sdcard/image123.jpg"),"image/jpeg");
startActivityForResult(intent, 900);
This gives a option to open file in gallery. I select Gallery from the list. But it does not open up. I use ASTRO file manager and open the same image file. It opens up fine now. Please let me know if something is wrong.
Where do you got /mnt/sdcard. Try Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().getAbsolutePath() instead.
Specified Image Path? You can't. Please Refer My Question as How to access different File Manager specific path. Refer this link and then you got a answer.
