AndroidStudio random whitespace at top of app - android

I'm very new to Android Studio and thre's this whitespace that I haven't defined at the top of my app when I launch it, but not in the preview screen in Android Studio:
I have no idea where it's coming from, as the top of my definition XML doesn't define this whitespace:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ScrollView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/scrollContainer"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/containerLayout"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical">
Below this is just two more LinearLayouts inside the one shown above. I've tried just adding text and the whitespace still appears. I also haven't added anything in code for this to appear.
Any help / ideas would be appreciated!
Edit: Below is the activity_main XML:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingTop="?attr/actionBarSize">
<com.google.android.material.bottomnavigation.BottomNavigationView
android:id="#+id/nav_view"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginStart="0dp"
android:layout_marginEnd="0dp"
android:background="?android:attr/windowBackground"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintLeft_toLeftOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintRight_toRightOf="parent"
app:menu="#menu/bottom_nav_menu" />
<fragment
android:id="#+id/nav_host_fragment"
android:name="androidx.navigation.fragment.NavHostFragment"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:defaultNavHost="true"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toTopOf="#id/nav_view"
app:layout_constraintLeft_toLeftOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintRight_toRightOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent"
app:navGraph="#navigation/mobile_navigation" />
</androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout>

In activity_main.xml, try removing the line:
android:paddingTop="?attr/actionBarSize"
This adds padding around the ConstraintLayout content equal to the height of the action bar, which is not needed in this case.

Why are my Android fragments' layouts offset by the height of the navbar?

All my Android fragment layouts seem to be offset by the navbar height. This also means they get covered at the bottom by the tab bar. What am I doing wrong?
Examples:
I'm not sure what code you want to see; most of it came straight out of Android Studio. And apparently I can't post it all here at once - "It looks like your post is mostly code." :(

exchange android:layout_height="match_parent" set for <fragment to android:layout_height="0dp", allow constraints to to their job, attach fragment above bottom nav. currently looks like app:layout_constraintBottom_toTopOf="#id/nav_view" isn't making your Fragment appear above bottom nav, instead its fulfilling whole Activity, even space under bottom nav
top spacing is probably introduced by android:paddingTop="?attr/actionBarSize" line set for root element, just remove this line
btw. there is a dev option "show layout bounds", it will show you where your views/fragments are placed

Configurations for activity_main.xml must agree on the root element's ID. Missing ID: - layout #+id/drawer_layout: - layout-land

Im using viewbinding, and i get this error when i build
Configurations for activity_main.xml must agree on the root element's ID.
Missing ID:
- layout
#+id/drawer_layout:
- layout-land
It says i need to have two different id for rootview. But i have different root for portrait layout and landscape layout. Like below. If i put same id to drawerlayout(landscape) and same id for constraintlayout(portrait) it creates problem in code. That to i wrote common code without checking orientation.
How to get rid of this error, using <include id> or <merge> or anyother ways?
(i dont know how these works exactly for my needs) without checking orientations in code blocks.

code
NavigationUI.setupActionBarWithNavController(this, navController, drawerLayout)
You're using a </androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout> for the portrait and a </androidx.drawerlayout.widget.DrawerLayout> for the landscape orientation. Hence the error.. You can try running the app after wrapping the drawer layout in a constraint layout and giving each an identical id

Removing upper margin in ConstraintLayout with bottom navigation

I have created Bottom Navigation Activity in Android Studio. Now I'm adapting all layouts to my needs but I have a severe problem with removing that margin between nav_host_fragment and it's parent which is Constraint Layout. This causes the layout of all fragments to be displayed with an unwanted offset or a margin.
https://obrazki.elektroda.pl/6421823700_1611991870.png
The layout is defined as follows
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingTop="?attr/actionBarSize">
<com.google.android.material.bottomnavigation.BottomNavigationView
android:id="#+id/nav_view"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginStart="0dp"
android:layout_marginEnd="0dp"
android:background="?android:attr/windowBackground"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintLeft_toLeftOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintRight_toRightOf="parent"
app:menu="#menu/bottom_nav_menu" />
<fragment
android:id="#+id/nav_host_fragment"
android:name="androidx.navigation.fragment.NavHostFragment"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:defaultNavHost="true"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toTopOf="#id/nav_view"
app:layout_constraintLeft_toLeftOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintRight_toRightOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent"
app:navGraph="#navigation/mobile_navigation" />
</androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout>
The android:paddingTop in your constraint layout is the cause of your issue, remove it and you must be good to go.
Try the following,
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<!-- child view remains the same -->
</androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout>

GoogleMap fragment inside fragment containing margin/padding at top?

Using the "Activity Bottom Navigation" template in Android Studio, I am then adding a GoogleMap fragment inside one of the default fragments.
The main fragment, unchanged from the template:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingTop="?attr/actionBarSize">
<com.google.android.material.bottomnavigation.BottomNavigationView
android:id="#+id/nav_view"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginStart="0dp"
android:layout_marginEnd="0dp"
android:background="?android:attr/windowBackground"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintLeft_toLeftOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintRight_toRightOf="parent"
app:menu="#menu/bottom_nav_menu" />
<fragment
android:id="#+id/nav_host_fragment"
android:name="androidx.navigation.fragment.NavHostFragment"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:defaultNavHost="true"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toTopOf="#id/nav_view"
app:layout_constraintHorizontal_bias="0.0"
app:layout_constraintLeft_toLeftOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintRight_toRightOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintVertical_bias="0.0"
app:navGraph="#navigation/mobile_navigation" />
The fragment that contains my mapfragment. Only slightly modified from the template's fragment:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
tools:context=".ui.map.MapFragment">
<fragment
android:id="#+id/gmap"
android:name="com.google.android.gms.maps.SupportMapFragment"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
</androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout>
I am not including any code in the fragment, because it doesn't matter if there IS code or not - the margin/padding appears at top.
When run, I get the following:
Notice the almost-action-bar madding before the map starts. In the Android Studio designer screen, it IS shows that the fragment is taking up
Am I missing some kind of flag or setting or layout quirk to allow the map area to fill up the entire parent (its own) fragment?
The root ConstraintLayout on your main fragment is causing the empty space:
android:paddingTop="?attr/actionBarSize"
Delete this attribute and the space will disappear.

FrameLayout doesn't fit its space

I am working for the first time with NavigationBar widget and I cannot set the FrameLayout not to go behind the NavigationBar.
I've tried really everything: to set both in a RelativeLayout (NavigationBar disappears) , every setting I've found here around StackOverflow but I didn't succeed.
Here is my code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
tools:context="mypackage.myActivity"
android:background="#color/background_activities">
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/frame_layout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:animateLayoutChanges="true"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
>
</FrameLayout>
<android.support.design.widget.BottomNavigationView
android:id="#+id/navigation"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#color/color_NavigationBar"
app:itemIconTint="#color/white"
app:itemTextColor="#color/white"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintLeft_toLeftOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintRight_toRightOf="parent"
app:menu="#menu/navigation" />
</android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout>
Hope someone will help me to figure out where I made the mistake.
Thank you very much
EDIT
Now the navigation bar started to change dimension while clicked (it looks like the whole layout is "renderized" again) and now it get stucks in such a position
Try this, set the frame layout constraints to clip completly to the parent, except the bottom to clip to the navigation's top, then set the height and width to 0dp so it can grow according to the constraints:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
tools:context="mypackage.myActivity"
android:background="#color/background_activities">
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/frame_layout"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:animateLayoutChanges="true"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toTopOf="#+id/navigation"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent"></FrameLayout>
<android.support.design.widget.BottomNavigationView
android:id="#+id/navigation"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#color/color_NavigationBar"
app:itemIconTint="#color/white"
app:itemTextColor="#color/white"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintLeft_toLeftOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintRight_toRightOf="parent"
app:menu="#menu/navigation" />
</android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout>
