Reduce image size without changing resolution android studio - android

In my android app, I use the Camera intent to click a photo and upload the same to my server for processing. However, there is a requirement that the resolution of the image should be more than 500X500.
The default camera resolution is much higher these days and hence the desired resolution is not an issue. However, in most cases the resolution is much higher and the image size comes up to 3 MB or so. Because of this, it takes longer to upload the image to server, especially in areas where internet connectivity is poor.
I would like to reduce the size of the image, preferably down to 100 KB or so, without reducing the resolution.

How to save a picture in a specific folder just for my app (correctly)?

The problem is that my app saves the picture twice; one in the camera folder and the other in the folder I specified. but when I tested the app on another device, that didn't happen!

There is no solution for it, other than to not use ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE.
ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE delegates picture-taking to an arbitrary third-party camera app. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of these pre-installed on devices. There are hundreds more available for download from the Play Store and elsewhere. What they do in response to that Intent action is up to them. Ideally, they would only store the image in the location specified by EXTRA_OUTPUT. However, there is no requirement that they behave that way. Some camera apps will store the image twice, once in its normal location and once in the EXTRA_OUTPUT. Some will ignore EXTRA_OUTPUT entirely.
If this concerns you, do not use ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE. Use a library — CameraX, Fotoappart, CameraKit-Android, etc. — to take the photos within your own app.

This line:
.into(new SimpleTarget<Bitmap>(100,100)
Literally means that you want the image with a width of 100px and height of 100px, which is really really small, and i'm 99.99% sure this is what you mean with "bad quality".
If you want the 100% original image, you should use this:
.into(new SimpleTarget<Bitmap>(Target.SIZE_ORIGINAL, Target.SIZE_ORIGINAL)
"Target" is a class within Glide, and it has the "SIZE_ORIGINAL" constant.
That'll give you the full image, in original quality, which you can then save.
Your Bitmap.compress is already in the max quality, you can change the format to PNG, but you´ll have no compress for the image, because PNG is a lossless format.
You can change the dimens of your image too, change SimpleTarget<Bitmap>(100,100) to the original one.

How To Convert A Bitmap Image To Uri

I have not found the answer to this question anywhere.
The Bitmap Image is processed in The application, meaning there is no File path to get the Image.

How do I now reconvert to a Uri
URI is super set of URL that means its a path to file . whereas Bitmap is a digital image composed of a matrix of dots.Bitmap represents a data and uri represents that location where data is saved .SO if you need to get a URI for a bitmap You just need to save it on a storage . In android you can do it by Java IO like below:First Create a file where you want to save it :

This is just an example not idle code for all android version. To use Uri above and on android N you should use FileProvider to serve the file . Follow the Commonsware's answer.
Use compress() on Bitmap to write the bitmap to a file. Then, most likely, use FileProvider to serve that file, where getUriForFile() gives you the Uri corresponding to the file.
IOW, you do not "convert" a bitmap to a Uri. You save the bitmap somewhere that gives you a Uri.

Save bitmap to location

I am working on a function to download an image from a web server, display it on the screen, and if the user wishes to keep the image, save it on the SD card in a certain folder. Is there an easy way to take a bitmap and just save it to the SD card in a folder of my choice?
My issue is that I can download the image, display it on screen as a Bitmap. The only way I have been able to find to save an image to a particular folder is to use FileOutputStream, but that requires a byte array. I am not sure how to convert (if this is even the right way) from Bitmap to byte array, so I can use a FileOutputStream to write the data.
The other option I have is to use MediaStore :

You should use the Bitmap.compress() method to save a Bitmap as a file. It will compress (if the format used allows it) your picture and push it into an OutputStream.

Some formats, like PNG which is lossless, will ignore the quality setting.

After Android 4.4 Kitkat, and as of 2017 share of Android 4.4 and less is about 20% and decreasing, it's not possible to save to SD card using File class and getExternalStorageDirectory() method. This method returns your device internal memory and images save visible to every app. You can also save images only private to your app and to be deleted when user deletes your app with openFileOutput() method.
Starting with Android 6.0, you can format your SD card as an internal memory but only private to your device.(If you format SD car as internal memory, only your device can access or see it's contents) You can save to that SD card using other answers but if you want to use a removable SD card you should read my answer below.
You should use Storage Access Framework to get uri to folder onActivityResult method of activity to get folder selected by user, and add retreive persistiable permission to be able to access folder after user restarts the device.

Now, save save folder to shared preferences not to ask user to select folder every time you want to save an image.
You should use DocumentFile class to save your image, not File or ParcelFileDescriptor, for more info you can check this thread for saving image to SD card with compress(CompressFormat.JPEG, 100, out); method and DocumentFile classes.
