I am using alarm manager to send a notification at particular time using this code:-
Intent intent = new Intent(RemindersList.this, NotifierAlarm.class);
intent.putExtra("Message",message);
PendingIntent intent1 = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(RemindersList.this, reminders.getId(), intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
AlarmManager alarmManager = (AlarmManager) getSystemService(ALARM_SERVICE);
alarmManager.setExact(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, calendar.getTimeInMillis(), intent1);
Toast.makeText(RemindersList.this, "Inserted Successfully", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
In manifest receiver is :-
<receiver android:name="com.example.package.NotifierAlarm" />
and the NotifierAlarm class is :-
public class NotifierAlarm extends BroadcastReceiver {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
Uri alarmsound = RingtoneManager.getDefaultUri(RingtoneManager.TYPE_ALARM);
Intent intent1 = new Intent(context, MainActivity.class);
intent1.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP);
TaskStackBuilder taskStackBuilder = TaskStackBuilder.create(context);
taskStackBuilder.addParentStack(MainActivity.class);
taskStackBuilder.addNextIntent(intent1);
PendingIntent intent2 = taskStackBuilder.getPendingIntent(1, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
NotificationCompat.Builder builder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(context, "9");
NotificationChannel channel = null;
if (android.os.Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= android.os.Build.VERSION_CODES.O) {
channel = new NotificationChannel("channel_01", "ch", NotificationManager.IMPORTANCE_HIGH);
}
Notification notification =
builder.setContentTitle("New Notification")
.setContentText("msg")
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setSound(alarmsound)
.setSmallIcon(R.mipmap.ic_launcher_round)
.setContentIntent(intent2)
.setChannelId("my_channel_01")
.setVisibility(VISIBILITY_PRIVATE)
.build();
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) context.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.O) {
notificationManager.createNotificationChannel(channel);
}
notificationManager.notify(1, notification);
Here I want to add a button in notification with associative on click so that when user click on that button then some specific code should run without opening the app and then notification disappears
that is i want something like Done/completed button of event
I think you can remove PendingIntent in your NotificationComat, then the app will not navigation to MainActivity anymore.
And also, it is encourage for user to swipe left/right to dismiss the notification like any other Android user does.

Not sending notification at selected time, when I ran my code, directly showed notification
and showed error as well
Here is the error message: E/NotificationManager: notifyAsUser: tag=null, id=12345, user=UserHandle{0}
I thought the error message was due to Build.VERSION.SDK_INT, but after adding that, the error message is still there.
Place all of these under onCreate:
Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
calendar.set(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY, 13);
calendar.set(Calendar.MINUTE,9)
;
Intent intent = new Intent ();
intent.setAction("com.example.Broadcast");
PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(this, 0, intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
// PendingIntent alarmIntent = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(this,0, intent,0);
AlarmManager alarmManager = (AlarmManager) getSystemService(ALARM_SERVICE);
alarmManager.setRepeating(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, calendar.getTimeInMillis(), AlarmManager.INTERVAL_DAY, contentIntent);
and here is the extend.
public class wakeReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
setNotification(context);
}
protected void setNotification(Context context){
PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0,
new Intent(context, MainActivity.class), 0);
String ChannelId = "12345";
int uniID = 12345;
NotificationCompat.Builder builder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(context,ChannelId )
.setSmallIcon(R.mipmap.ic_launcher_round)
.setContentTitle("Hi")
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setWhen(System.currentTimeMillis())
.setContentText("Please Rate.");
builder.setContentIntent(contentIntent);
//
// Send notification to your device
NotificationManager manager = (NotificationManager) context.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.O) {
builder.setChannelId("com.myApp");
}
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.O) {
NotificationChannel channel = new NotificationChannel(
"com.myApp",
"My App",
NotificationManager.IMPORTANCE_DEFAULT
);
if (manager != null) {
manager.createNotificationChannel(channel);
}
}
manager.notify(uniID, builder.build());
}
}
Can someone please help me with this?
You are very confused.
In your code you call NotificationManager.notify(). This will show the Notification immediately.
You do:
Intent intent = new Intent(this, MainActivity.class);
PendingIntent alarmIntent = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(this,0, intent,0);
This won't work. You have created a PendingIntent which will be sent via broadcast using an Intent that is for an Activity! What do you want to happen? Do you want an Activity to be launched or do you want a BroadcastReceiver to be triggered?
I think what you want to do is as follows:
Create an Intent for a BroadcastReceiver, wrap that in a PendingIntent using getBroadcast() and pass that to the AlarmManager so that the broadcast Intent will be set at some future time.
Create a class that extends BroadcastReceiver. In onReceive() create the Notification and call NotificationManager.notify() to post the Notification. In the Notification you can set a PendingIntent that opens your Activity so that if the user clicks on the Notification your Activity will be launched. To do this, call PendingIntent.getActivity() and pass an Intent that contains MainActivity.class.
So i have an alarm app...and when the receiver gets an intent from an alarm class, it creates a notification and builds it..but i just cant seem to figure out how to add onclick event to that button..i want it to implement a function not to just get an intent
this is my receiver
public class AlarmReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context arg0, Intent arg1) {
Context context= arg0;
Intent intent = new Intent(context,MainActivity.class);
PendingIntent pendingIntent=PendingIntent.getActivity(context,0,intent,0);
NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder =
(NotificationCompat.Builder) new NotificationCompat.Builder(context)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.mini)
.setContentTitle(context.getResources().getString(R.string.message_box_title))
.setContentText(context.getResources().getString(R.string.message_timesheet_not_up_to_date))
.addAction(R.drawable.bell,"snooze",pendingIntent);
Intent resultIntent = new Intent(context, MainActivity.class);
TaskStackBuilder stackBuilder = TaskStackBuilder.create(context);
stackBuilder.addParentStack(MainActivity.class);
stackBuilder.addNextIntent(resultIntent);
PendingIntent resultPendingIntent = stackBuilder.getPendingIntent(0, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
mBuilder.setContentIntent(resultPendingIntent);
NotificationManager mNotificationManager = (NotificationManager) context.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
mNotificationManager.notify(1, mBuilder.build());
Toast.makeText(arg0, "Alarm received!", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
Integer get_your_alarm_choice = arg1.getExtras().getInt("alarm_choice");
Log.e("alarm choice is",get_your_alarm_choice.toString());
}
any help would be really appreciated
I think you want to add a custom button in your notification and want to click it.
Please try below code if you need the same:
You have to use RemoteViews for this.
I have created one custom layout named notification_normal_view.xml.
In my notification_normal_view , I have one TextView i.e.txtSnooze and on click I want to open SnoozeActivity and if I click at any other part of notification I want to open MainActivity.
So in your receiver :
// Using RemoteViews to bind custom layouts into Notification
RemoteViews notificationView = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.notification_normal_view);
Intent snoozeIntent = new Intent(context, SnoozeActivity.class);
snoozeIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK
| Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TASK | Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL);
PendingIntent pSnoozeIntent = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(context,NOTIFICATION_ID,snoozeIntent,PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
Intent intent = new Intent(context, ExoVideoPlayer.class);
intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK| Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TASK | Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL);
PendingIntent pIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, NOTIFICATION_ID,intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
notificationView.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.txt_snooze, pSnoozeIntent);
Notification notificationBuilder = new Notification.Builder(context)
.setSound(soundUri)
.setSmallIcon(icon)
.setAutoCancel(true)
.build();
//set your view to notification
notificationBuilder.contentView = notificationView;
notificationBuilder.flags = Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL;
notificationBuilder.icon = R.mipmap.ic_launcher;
notificationBuilder.contentIntent = pIntent;
NotificationManager mNotificationManager =
(NotificationManager) context.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
mNotificationManager.notify(NOTIFICATION_ID, notificationBuilder);
I am trying to do scheduled notification. All works except: When application is active and minimized. Notification auto starts activity without waiting for user to click on it.
On reveive:
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent paramIntent) {
Uri alarmSound = RingtoneManager.getDefaultUri(RingtoneManager.TYPE_NOTIFICATION);
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) context
.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.cancelAll();
Notification notification = new Notification(R.drawable.logo_f, context.getResources().getString(R.string.notification_text), System.currentTimeMillis());
Intent notificationIntent = new Intent(context, TimeLeftActivity.class);
notificationIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP
| Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP);
PendingIntent intent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0,
notificationIntent, 0);
notification.setLatestEventInfo(context, context.getResources().getString(R.string.notification_text), "", intent);
notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL;
notification.sound=alarmSound;
// Fire the notification
notificationManager.notify(1, notification);
}
My notification start method:
private void createScheduledNotification(int sec)
{
// Get new calendar object and set the date to now
Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
calendar.setTimeInMillis(System.currentTimeMillis());
// Add defined amount of days to the date
calendar.add(Calendar.SECOND, sec);
// Retrieve alarm manager from the system
AlarmManager alarmManager = (AlarmManager) getApplicationContext().getSystemService(getBaseContext().ALARM_SERVICE);
// Every scheduled intent needs a different ID, else it is just executed once
int id = 1;
// Prepare the intent which should be launched at the date
Intent intent = new Intent(this, TimeAlarm.class);
// Prepare the pending intent
PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(getApplicationContext(), id, intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
alarmManager.cancel(pendingIntent);
// Register the alert in the system. You have the option to define if the device has to wake up on the alert or not
alarmManager.set(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, calendar.getTimeInMillis(), pendingIntent);
}
EDIT after Kirill answer. Error still persist. Notification auto starts pending intent and does not wait for click.
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent paramIntent) {
Uri alarmSound = RingtoneManager.getDefaultUri(RingtoneManager.TYPE_NOTIFICATION);
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) context
.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.cancelAll();
Intent notificationIntent = new Intent(context, TimeLeftActivity.class);
notificationIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP
| Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP);
PendingIntent intent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0,
notificationIntent, 0);
Notification notification = new NotificationCompat.Builder(context)
.setContentTitle(context.getResources().getString(R.string.notification_text))
.setContentIntent(intent)
.setSound(alarmSound)
.build();
notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL;
// Fire the notification
notificationManager.notify(1, notification);
}
It is hard to find error, because you use deprecated API in your code, you should to use Notication.Builder
Notification noti = new Notification.Builder(mContext)
.setContentTitle("New mail from " + sender.toString())
.setContentText(subject)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.new_mail)
.setLargeIcon(aBitmap)
.build();
If you need to support old versions you can use NotificationCompat
UPDATE
This is sample from my app, it throws a notification, which open activity by click, I marked method to add intent.
String message = context.getString(R.string.notif_message);
Intent notificationIntent = new Intent(AddBpRecordActivity.ADD_ACTION);
NotificationCompat.Builder nb = new NotificationCompat.Builder(context)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic_notif_logo)
.setContentTitle(message)
.setContentText(billet.comment)
.setDefaults(Notification.DEFAULT_ALL)
.setAutoCancel(true)
>>> .setContentIntent(PendingIntent.getActivity(context, (int) billet.id, notificationIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_CANCEL_CURRENT))
.setWhen(System.currentTimeMillis());
Notification notification = nb.build();
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) context.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.notify((int) billet.id, notification);
I want to auto cancel my notification when user clicks on notification. The following code works good in all the devices except Android lollipop device. In Lollipop device, notification goes only when user swipes it off.
#SuppressWarnings("deprecation")
public void sendNotification(int id){
NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder =
new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic_launcher)
.setContentTitle("Test")
.setContentText("Jump to next screen")
.setDefaults(Notification.DEFAULT_SOUND)
.setAutoCancel(true);
mBuilder.getNotification().flags |= Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL | Notification.FLAG_ONLY_ALERT_ONCE;
// Creates an explicit intent for an Activity in your app
Intent resultIntent = new Intent(this, NextActivity.class);
resultIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TASK|Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
PendingIntent resultPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(getApplicationContext(), 0,
resultIntent, 0);
//PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT
mBuilder.setContentIntent(resultPendingIntent);
NotificationManager mNotificationManager =
(NotificationManager) getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
// id, if there is a need to update the notification later on.
mNotificationManager.notify(id, mBuilder.build());
Log.v(TAG, "Notification ID value " + id);
//mNotificationManager.cancel(id);
}
What is missing in this code?
Looks good to me. My auto cancel still works on 5.0.2. Let me give you a portion of my code:
public static void notif(int id, String title, String text, Context context, Class activity) {
// get an instance of the NotificationManager service
if (mNotifyMgr == null)
mNotifyMgr = (NotificationManager) context.getApplicationContext().getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
Intent intent = new Intent(context, activity);
intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK | Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TASK);
PendingIntent notifIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0, intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder =
new NotificationCompat.Builder(context)
.setSmallIcon(R.mipmap.launcher)
.setContentTitle(title)
.setContentText(text)
.setContentIntent(notifIntent);
mNotifyMgr.notify(id, mBuilder.build());
}
modify following:
setAutoCancel(true) -> setAutoCancel(false);
then on action activity do the following
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager)getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.cancelAll();
if you want to set special condition you can set by
intent.putExtra("key", "value")
I have prepared a simple test app which posts a notification on a button click:
The source code from MainActivity.java creating the notification is displayed below:
Button showButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.show);
showButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(View v) {
Intent appIntent = new Intent(mContext, MainActivity.class);
appIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP);
appIntent.putExtra("my_data", 12345);
String question = getString(R.string.the_question);
PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(mContext, 0, appIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
Notification notification = new NotificationCompat.Builder(mContext)
.setContentTitle(question)
.setContentText(question)
.setTicker(question)
.setWhen(System.currentTimeMillis())
.setContentIntent(contentIntent)
.setDefaults(Notification.DEFAULT_ALL)
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic_launcher)
.build();
mManager.notify(NOTIFY_ID, notification);
}
});
My question is: how to modify the notification, so that the user is asked a Yes/No question (in this case: "Do you want to open the car?") and - after she selects Yes or No to launch the same app and run a corresponding method in it (in this case: openCar() or closeCar() method).
I probably should use NotificationCompat.Action.Builder - but how exactly?
Also I am not really sure if this code is the correct code for launching an app from notification and what flags should I use:
Intent appIntent = new Intent(mContext, MainActivity.class);
appIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP);
And finally I wonder if hardcodidng some random number in NOTIFY_ID is the correct way when posting notifications?
Here is a source code I used for notification with Login/Register action.
private void sendNotification(String message, String title) {
try {
Intent intent = new Intent(this, MainActivity.class);
intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP);
PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0 /* Request code */, intent,
PendingIntent.FLAG_ONE_SHOT);
Intent secondActivityIntent = new Intent(this, SecondActivity.class);
PendingIntent secondActivityPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0 , secondActivityIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_ONE_SHOT);
Intent thirdActivityIntent = new Intent(this, ThridActivity.class);
PendingIntent thirdActivityPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0 , thirdActivityIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_ONE_SHOT);
Uri defaultSoundUri = RingtoneManager.getDefaultUri(RingtoneManager.TYPE_NOTIFICATION);
NotificationCompat.Builder notificationBuilder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic_3d_rotation_white_36dp)
.setContentTitle(title)
.setContentText(message)
.addAction(R.drawable.ic_lock_open_cyan_600_24dp,"Login",secondActivityPendingIntent)
.addAction(R.drawable.ic_lock_pink_700_24dp,"Register",thirdActivityPendingIntent)
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setSound(defaultSoundUri)
.setContentIntent(pendingIntent);
NotificationManager notificationManager =
(NotificationManager) getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.notify(0 /* ID of notification */, notificationBuilder.build());
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
To use it: simply call this method sendNotification(String yourMessage, String yourTitle)
e.g. sendNotification("Hello Message", "Hello Title")
Here is a snapshot of the output
Notify user on pending Intent.. an example is here..
public void notifyUser() {
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) this
.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
Intent intent = new Intent(HappyActivity.this, NotificationDialog.class);
intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP);
// use the flag FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT to override any notification already
// there
pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, intent,
PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
Notification notification = new Notification(R.drawable.ic_launcher,
"Question.....?????", System.currentTimeMillis());
notification.flags = Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL
| Notification.DEFAULT_LIGHTS | Notification.DEFAULT_SOUND;
notification.setLatestEventInfo(this, "title",
"Explanation of question..", pendingIntent);
// 10 is a random number I chose to act as the id for this notification
notificationManager.notify(10, notification);
}
