last week on tuesday 1/12/2021 all devices with version prior 9 started to set location mode to "Device only" after a device reboot.
This behavior changed suddenly, i didn't found anything about it. I have an app that requires high accuracy mode to work "fine" and this is affecting the normal usage of the app.
I wanted to know if there is an alternative to persist the high accuracy mode between reboots, and if this was intentionally changed by Google.
Thank you very much,
Jesús
do you have more info?
I have 2 tablets
A Samsung Tab Galaxy 2 (T319) with Android 7 doesn't have this issue.
A Samsung Tab A6 (T585) with Android 8.1 with this issus since last week.

We have one application which is having the MapFragment and count down timer. We used this app for 1 hr with the Acer tablet (Android 6) with 1 GB RAM and it works perfect. Now, we used new latest Acer tablet with 2 GB RAM (Android 7) for 4 hrs.
After using 4 hrs of test we are getting ANR issue. Also, lot of apps on the system are giving same ANR issue like Settings app, Clock App, Chrome App. This device has remained with ample amount of storage. But, memory it is showing 1.8 gb used (92 %).
I tried to reproduce the same issue on another new tablet ( Acer tablet with 2 GB RAM (Android 7)) but i couldn't able to reproduce it. (I tried lot of cases by running the app up to 1 hr but i haven't run app for 4 hr.)
Is it a RAM issue or It is because of some system problem?
Or is it because of some system updates and incompatibility of the app?
Or it is due to my android app?
Can anyone please suggest the best way to tackle such unusual scenario
I want to add in my manifest android:largeheap="true" based on some devices. Mostly devices running probably os 5.1 and below.Because alot of my clients are using samsung s3 , chinese , indian , pakistani phones. And I am getting lots of crashes in my firebase console. However this issue is not faced on top notch devices like google pixel samsung s8 etc.
How can I detect which devices i run largeheap, and how i run it on those devices only? I do not want to run it on devices i dont need to.
Well, you can't set this flag depending on the device. That's the true. But you can set it depending on OS version, screen size and etc. Check this answer to see how it can be done.
I was reading the following article about updating an app to take full advantage of devices like the Galaxy S8 or LG G6
https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2017/03/update-your-app-to-take-advantage-of.html
And what I want to do is to test the app in an emulator of these screens and test it before and after adding the line of code the article suggests:
<meta-data android:name="android.max_aspect" android:value="2.1" />
I have tried creating an AVD inside of Android Studio with a screen size of 5.8 and a resolution of 2960x1440 (Galaxy S8 screen resolution), and my app runs fine without any black bars, even though it's a portrait-only app, and due to that it'd be expected to show black bars, so I think I'm not configuring the emulator appropiately.
Any ideas?
Thank you.
I have been looking for similar thing to test my app and found that Samsung provides online test lab like firebase.
You can go http://developer.samsung.com/rtlLanding.do and check it out. They give 5 minutes free if you don't have developer account.
As per samsung you can get following
20 credits are provided to each Samsung Developer user every day.
With 1 credit, users can use the Remote Test Lab service for 15 minutes.
Minimum reservation: 30 minutes (2 credits)
Maximum reservation: 10 hours a day (40 credits)
More details : http://developer.samsung.com/remotetestlab/rtlAboutRTL.action
You can change your targetSdkVersion to 24,The default is already available。
I want to create an AVD to test apps on a Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
I have checked similar questions, but they are intended for older AVD versions.
Which device should I use?
Should I set the target as "Android 2.3.3 - API Level 10"?
I know the following:
Screen Size 5.55"
Resolution 720w x 1280h
Density xhdpi
RAM 2 GiB
Hardware buttons*
The rest I just left at the defaults:
Sensors: Accelerometer, GPS, Gyroscope, Proximity Sensor
Cameras: Front, Rear
Input: No Nav
Size: Large
Screen Ratio: long
Buttons: Software
Portrait: Enabled
Device States: Enabled
*Picture does not show the "Buttons" as hardware, but it should be.
Hope this helps!

Hope this helps someone.....
Which device should I use?
Unless Samsung has some downloadable device definitions that you can use, you should define your own device that matches the Note II as closely as you can.
Should I set the target as "Android 2.3.3 - API Level 10"?
Only if for some reason you downgraded your Note II to Android 2.3.3. The Note II ships with Android 4.1 AFAIK.
I would like to post one more answer, though others are good enough.
Some times emulator doesn't work as expected when we are looking for emulator which compatible with the real device. I faced may frustrating problem like this, after some exploration I found that Samsung provides a significant solution for this i.e RTL (Remote Test Lab) it is free.
For more information and how to use it check out Samsung RTL Solution
Hope this one help you.
I just put an app on the market and it is showing on all phones I have except for my Acer Liquid Mini. This one:
http://www.gsmarena.com/acer_liquid_mini_e310-3711.php
I have phones with the same res screens, Android 2.2, and close enough to the same hardware specs yet this is the only phone that it doesn't show for. It is running on factory defaults. When I try to install by the browser Google just says that the app isn't compatible and no more information.
I have the minSDK set to 4, maxSDK set to 10, I'm not specifying any screen resolutions in the Manifest (as recommended by the Android Doc post Android 1.6) and install location is set to "auto".
Does anyone have any ideas?
Apparently Google has problems with knowing the hardware constraints on some devices, such as this one, my Desire with the 2.3 upgrade and my Irish Galaxy 10.1" tab. They are working to sort it out
You could try deploying you app on appslib, they got a list of devices supported. You can choose a set of features required by your app and see the devices that will be able to run it.
I can't promise that both Android Market and appslib will give you the same results, i.e. will associate a device to the same requirements but that's a track to follow.
