Gradle dependencies in Android Studio

Error in gradle file in android studio.

Error in implementation 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:28.0.0'
Guide me to solve this Error In the android studio. I search a lot but cannot find the solution.

Put these flags in your gradle.properties:
android.useAndroidX=true
android.enableJetifier=true
then use SDK version 28 for both compileSdkVersion and targetSdkVersion:

It works fine!

Android Studio GeoDataClient and PlaceDetectionClient cannot be resolved

I know GeoDataClient can be import by adding 'com.google.android.gms:play-services-places' in build.gradle.
But Google say "'com.google.android.gms:play-services-places'is deprecated".
So we have to use 'com.google.android.libraries.places:places:1.1.0'.
By the way 'com.google.android.libraries.places:places:1.1.0' doesn't contain GeoDataClient and PlaceDetectionClient.
How could I resolve those two objects?

Update gradle and firebase versions as required.
'com.google.firebase:firebase-auth:16.0.1:15.0.0' Make it
'com.google.firebase:firebase-auth:16.0.1' Or anything that is compatible with your gradle.

Why Can't I import PreferenceFragmentCompat using AndroidX library?

I'm trying to set up my SettingsFragment but
import PreferenceFragmentCompat hasn't been working.
Is there a way of doing this with AndroidX?

You have to set compileSdkVersion to 29 in order to use androidx-namespaced libraries
