After updating AndroidStudio to 4.2 I can't see my apps in debuggable process. every things was ok just before update. what I tried but nothing changed is:
- restart my phone
- restart android studio
- restart pc
- invalidate caches
- rebuild & clean
- remove build folder
- disable developer option in my phone
- try on emulator
Unfortunately after 2 days wasting my time and doing all suggested things In this page , I downgraded android studio to 4.1.3 and now it is working like before update. It also maybe useful for others that I also checked android studio arctic fox canary 15 and nothing differs with 4.2
Update
For developers who are living in Iran maybe it's related to sanctions. I was using vpn to change my ip when updating sdk . after version 4.2 is released google use more ways to identify where we are come from and two possible of them is Region and Regional Format. therefore You should change them to another country and then update sdk to solve the problem.
Just change windows Regional Format to English. Windows Settings -> Time & Language -> Region -> Regional Format . Then restart android studio
UPDATED:
change your time-zone and format to USA, it worked for me
I found a solution: Resetting Android Studio
File -> Manage IDE Settings -> Restore Default Settings…
Debugging works fine after updating Android Studio to 4.2.. My app is also showing in Debuggable processes under Logcat..

Release Notes
However when I click on the Download button it opens a web page to re-download the whole program instead of updating it. It's a bit confusing because it's a minor update.
This issue was fixed by Google (10 February 2022).
You can now update Android Studio normally.
Thank you all for helping to bring this problem to Google's attention.
The problem was fixed.
You can now update through the IDE without any webpage redirects or workarounds.

Download and install JetBrains Toolbox. Android studio patch update will show in the toolbox list. Update through this. Hope its helpful.
As written in the issuetracker (217880288):
Workaround: delete manually only the "C:\Program Files\Android\Android Studio"-folder and then install AS again. All your preferences will be restored because they are saved in your profile folder.
This worked for me.
However I for my part only renamed the old Android Studio folder and will keep it for a few Versions just to be have it in case of problems - but I didn't notice any problems yet.
P.S.: I readded the folder as exclusion from Antivirus, even if I do not remember well if this is still helping performance.
P.P.S.: Before I also tried the JetBrains Toolbox way to update AS, it said it installed the patch - however I still got the messages afterwards and it was still using old gradle.
I am using macbook with M1 chip. I am using Android Studio Bumblebee | 2021.1.1 Canary 3 version. When I run the project for the first time, there is no problem. When I debug for the second time, the changes I made in the codes are not visible in the emulator. I can't see the changes in logcat. What should I do?
thanks
I solved the problem.
"Edit Configurations..." -> Then the option I have shown in the red square needs to be selected.
You can try to go from File to Invalidate Caches / Restart... to empty your cache.
If that doesn't work try to downgrade your version. M1 Chip has problems with Android Studio because it is pretty new. Follow along this answer.
If you are sure it gets compiled and Android Studio installs it without errors you could try these things that worked for me:
Uninstalling the app inside the emulator and then running it again so the app gets reinstalled with your new version.
Also, as it's answered on here. You could also go to Tools -> AVD Manager. Right click on the emulator and then wipe data. This will delate all the data on the device.
After upgrading Visual Studio Professional 2019 to version 16.9.2, when I try to deploy on Android Emulator
api 28 (9.0), I get following error:
Error XA0130: Sorry. Fast deployment is only supported on devices running Android 5.0 (API level 21) or higher. Please disable fast deployment in the Visual Studio project property pages or edit the project file in a text editor and set the 'EmbedAssembliesIntoApk' MSBuild property to 'true'.
Before the upgrade, everything worked fine. This is really frustating!
To correct this problem I had to
uninstall app on Android phone (important step)
Unload Android Project from solution explorer
This brings up the project file code now search code for
<EmbedAssembliesIntoApk>false</EmbedAssembliesIntoApk>
Change false to true save
reload project problem solved.
Note leave fast deploy checked.
Go to >> Solution Properties>> Android Options>> Uncheck "Use Fast Deployment(debug mode only)"
I had the same issue recently after adding images to my project found out that I had upper case letters as a name SomePicture.png renaming all images to lower case solved it.
#AlwinBrabu, I think you meant "Project Properties" -> Android Options -> Uncheck Fast Deployment(debug mode only).
This worked for me, although this is a workaround. I do not consider it a solution.
To solve this, I had to right-click on the Android project in the Solution Explorer, then in Options -> Android Build uncheck the Fast Assembly Deployment option.
Then deploy the project on the Android emulator.
But after deploying it once, I went back to the settings and checked (i.e. ticked) the Fast Assembly Deployment option, and subsequent deploys worked fine.
I'm running Visual Studio for Mac 2022 version 17.0.1 (build 72).
I've been updating my project to target sdk-api28 and I started setting up the latest MaterialComponents, but I'm now having issues with the layout Previewer within Android Studio.
The Preview just won't display the correct design for the material components, eg. adding style="#style/Widget.MaterialComponents.TextInputLayout.OutlinedBox" on a TextInputLayout view won't change the design (no outlines) in the emulated preview, but it does look okay when running on a phone (got outlines).
Here's how it should and does look when running on phones:
But here's a screenshot of how it looks in the Android studio's Preview.
I'm having this issue on any project, and even on the Shrine tutorial app with the same setup from MDC Codelabs (MDC-103(Java) - Shrine).
This happens only on the preview. Any of these projects, when running on a phone or on the emulator within Studio, look okay.
As much as I could 'think through' this, the issue is I believe somehow connected to my Android Studio, emulator, or maybe build tools versions? Please, could someone point out if I'm missing something very simple?
My Android Studio (sdk, tools etc) versions that I have installed:
Android Studio 3.2.1
Android Emulator 28.0.16
Android Platform Version: API 28: Android 9 (Pie) revision 6
Android SDK Platform-Tools 28.0.1
Android SDK Tools 26.1.1
This issue happaned to me in android studio 3.2.
after one day everything gose fine.
what i do was invalidate and restart. reset android studio default settings
the clean. and exit android studio and open it again. and it works fine
this is a bug not related to you only.
While some users who experienced similar issues, could solve this with cleaning out Android Studio cache and config, this didn't work for me.
After looking into various possible fixes and tips, I solved this by updating to Android Studio 3.4 Canary which is the latest non-guaranteed-stable version of Android Studio, which you can get by either downloading a Preview release (here: developer.android.com) or changing your update preference (within Android Studio) ie. Update channel to Dev channel or Canary channel within Android Studio Settings > Appearance & Behaviour > System settings > Updates
I do think that this might not be a proper fix, but it's the only thing that worked out for me and solved the layout (design) preview not being able to display correct design.
If someone else runs into a similar issue, make sure to first try out clearing cache, using the Invalidate and restart under File menu or any other method. The Invalidate and restart feature clears out cache and restarts android studio, after which it will have to sync again and check for all dependencies, Sdk, tools etc.
Also to avoid this issue, before trying out anything else make sure you have proper and latest SDK Build-tools, Emulator, SDK Platform-tools, SDK Tools versions installed.
I'll leave this here as an answer for now, and update it if any new solutions come around.
Sorry, I'm here 3 years late... But this was my solution for this render problem... It has Material.Light theme by default. If you change it to Light.Bridge the problem is solved!
Hope it helps some one
I am not able to start the android studio. I have set java path in environment variables and Android studio is also latest version. I have tried to install and run administrator but no help.
Please help me...
Open file Android Studio setup directory/bin/idea.properties
Add disable.android.first.run=true to tail
Restart AS.
Going through the Known issues page(https://developer.android.com/studio/known-issues) found me the fix.
You have to set these additional PATHs
ANDROID_HOME = your SDK directory (android-sdk)
PATH=%PATH%;%ANDROID_HOME%\tools;%ANDROID_HOME%\platform-tools
Actual Solution
None of the answers here specify on how to debug the problem, you need to run the bin\studio.bat script in the terminal and inspect the actual Idea exceptions in order to fix the problem.
No need to re-install, delete precious configuration (and plugins, etc.). Just read the error message!
For me, this was the issue:
ERROR - llij.ide.plugins.PluginManager - java.net.BindException: Address already in use: bind
java.util.concurrent.CompletionException: java.net.BindException: Address already in use: bind
This means the plugin manager is trying to listen on a port that is not available. Is something listening on that port? For me, it is the stupid "excluded ports" by Windows, so I simply stopped the service:
net stop winnat (as administrator), and confirmed that Android Studio started to work.
Don't delete your configuration files, especially if you don't want to re-configure your settings. Just read the log provided by the bin\studio.bat script.
As of January 2016, the most recent canary needs the property written as as:
-Ddisable.android.first.run=true
otherwise it complains about missing JAVA_HOME. (using windows 10)
Fixed mine android studio by changing the system language, you can set yours to English go to Control Panel->Region under formats tab change the format to English(United states).
I had the same issue, I fixed it by changing the system language. Set your language to English by going to the Control Panel/Region. In the Formats tab change the format to English(United states).
I upgraded my Android Studio from 3.0 to 4.1 and after that AS always stuck on the splash screen. Fortunately, this section of the known-issues works for me https://developer.android.com/studio/known-issues#studio-config-directories

Thanks #ravi this also worked for me
As of March 2022, I was stuck in the splash screen was due to a plug-in conflict, but the IDE wasn't warning about it.
I received a warning balloon saying that I had the ExcelReader plug-in installed, suggesting me to install the new ExcelEditor plug-in, which is an improved (and paid ¬¬) version (I knew later). So I went and installed it and the IDE suggested restarting.
After restarting, the IDE always got stuck in the splash screen every single time I tried to launch it.
It wasn't until an hour later and so many launch attempts that, miraculously, the IDE launched and a dialog showed up warning about both plug-ins being not compatible so I had to disable one of them. It was a shame that it didn't warn me before. So I chose which one to disable on the dialog and it worked again.
Therefore, I suppose that if this were to happen again, it could be solved by editing the file /home/$USER/.config/Google/AndroidStudio2021.1/disabled_plugins.txt and adding the plug-in to the file manually.
In my case it was "com.chesterccw.excelreader" what I should have added. After that, of course, I uninstalled one of the plug-ins.
Studio doesn't start after upgrade
If Studio doesn't start after an upgrade, the problem may be due to an invalid Android Studio configuration imported from a previous version of Android Studio or an incompatible plugin. As a workaround, try deleting (or renaming, for backup purposes) the directory below, depending on the Android Studio version and operating system, and start Android Studio again. This will reset Android Studio to its default state, with all third-party plugins removed.
For Android Studio 4.1 and later:
Windows: %APPDATA%\Google\AndroidStudio<version>
Example: C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Roaming\Google\AndroidStudio4.1
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/AndroidStudio<version>
Example: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/AndroidStudio4.1
Linux: ~/.config/Google/AndroidStudio<version> and ~/.local/share/Google/AndroidStudio<version>
Example: ~/.config/Google/AndroidStudio4.1 and ~/.local/share/Google/AndroidStudio4.1
For Android Studio 4.0 and earlier:
Windows: %HOMEPATH%\.AndroidStudio<version>\config
Example: C:\Users\your_user_name\.AndroidStudio3.6\config
macOS: ~/Library/Preferences/AndroidStudio<version>
Example: ~/Library/Preferences/AndroidStudio3.6
Linux: ~/.AndroidStudio<version>/config
Example: ~/.AndroidStudio3.6/config
Note that the configuration directory for Canary and Beta releases of Android Studio is PreviewX.Y instead of X.Y for the . For example, Android Studio 4.1 Canary builds use AndroidStudioPreview4.1, instead of the AndroidStudio4.1 directory that is used for Release Candidates and Stable releases.
https://developer.android.com/studio/known-issues
just add this line disable.android.first.run=true at the bottom of the idea.properties file in the bin directory of the installation folder
