I have recently upgraded to Android Studio 4.2. I can no longer build my project.
Android Studio non-stop trying to start Gradle Daemon, but cannot do so:

I think as a result of this, dozens of OpenJDK Platform binaries are being generated in my TaskManager. This processes never stops until my machine runs out of memory. In such cases, very frequently, Android Studio is crashing.
When I do get to point where Android Studio stops building, it shows me an error: (I am sorry I am posting error image. My laptop is frozen that it is not possible to copy the error message.)
Studio tries to import previous .vmoptions and sanitize them to work
with the garbage collector used by JDK 11. If that process fails, the
IDE may not start for certain users who set custom VM options in the
.vmoptions file.
In order to resolve this problem, try:
We recommend commenting out custom options in .vmoptions (using the
“#” character). The .vmoptions file can be found in the following
locations:
Windows
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData[Local|Roaming]\Google\AndroidStudio4.2\studio64.exe.vmoptions
Check out the docs for more known issues of Android Studio 4.2 https://developer.android.com/studio/known-issues
Try opening build.gradle and there at the top you will see JDK not recognized dialog click on it and choose your JDK. It will work.
Potential solutions:
Solution 1.
Restart your machine. Then re-open your project. It should fix the issues.
Solution 2.
It is possible that Android Studio 4.2 is having issues due to an invalid Android Studio configuration imported from a previous version of Android Studio or an incompatible plugin
Go to these folders:
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Google
C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Google
Find Android Studio 4.1 or similar directory of previous version of Android Studio. Delete (or rename, for backup purposes) the directory, depending on the Android Studio version, and start Android Studio again.

Gradle build failed after android studio update. It typically does after updates, but this time invalidating caches and restarting didn't help. It's not giving me much, just says 'myprojectname' failed in build log. It shows my main activity in red in manifest as an unresolved class, also google imports are unresolved.
If this happens to you, try (tab)Build/Rebuild Project. It created a gradle sync error message on the bottom, suggesting upgrading, and clicking this eventually leads you to prompts for downloading and resyncing upgraded gradles (took about half an hour). Would have been nice to have gotten a prompt from the start with the failed after studio upgrade build attempt.
I'm starting in android development via Android Studio 2.3.1
As soon as I installed the program and its requirements, they started my problems.
I've tried a lot for help and I did not succeed.
I created a new project and when I started the program, I got the message:
"USAGE:
Unable to start daemon process.
This problem might be caused by an incorrect configuration of the daemon.

Open the gradle.properties file, and add this line at the end org.gradle.jvmargs=-Xmx1024m, then do Build->Clean Project or just close it and reopen it and it should work.
My new project is displaying this error on first run. I've not changed any project files android creates. Android Studio version 2.2 (Canary build), Gradle version 2.14.1 and plugin version 2.2.0.
Error: Failed to complete Gradle execution.
Cause: Timeout waiting to connect to the Gradle daemon.

because of: java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\Users\red\.gradle\daemon\2.14.1\daemon-5044.out.log (The system cannot find the file specified)
Note: The app level build.gradle file is not displayed in Gradle scripts. Also the file is not opening within Android Studio. The 'build project' option is not displayed in 'Build' menu (probably because the build was not successful).
Finally I myself have found the solution. After a little search, I've learned that firewall interrupts gradle processes. I turned off Windows firewall and closed antivirus. But still it is not solved. So, I've uninstalled my antivirus and installed Avira. Now everything works fine.
Also earlier when I tried deleting .gradle folder, it said that the folder was being used by other programs. So, I guess some antivirus programs mess with Android files and folders.
Note: Keeping the question for anyone with similar problem.
I had the same problem, but it helped to colse the project and reopen it.
Working on Linux.
Android Studio 1.4 told me that 1.5 is available in the stable channel;
I upgraded.
Afterward, 1.5 seems to be "looking" for Gradle 2.4; yet 2.8 seems to be what's actually installed.
More details:
After the upgrade, the Gradle sync failed on the project I opened.
Error message:
.../android-studio/gradle/gradle-2.4/lib/plugins/gradle-diagnostics-2.4.jar (No such file or directory)
But the version specific sub-directory within the gradle directory is gradle-2.8
The update procedure itself did not complain about any issues.
The update was done without any open projects; update was done from the main Studio panel.
After the update of Studio itself, via "Configure" from main panel went to "SDK Manager", then updated to newest compatible SDK.
Has anyone else had a similar problem?
Yes, there was a problem in this update.
Open file gradle-wrapper.properties in your project using Android view:
Just change the version 2.4 to 2.8:
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-2.8-all.zip
Restart Android Studio.
Resolved - it seems some of the Gradle components were on the classpath for the JVM which studio itself uses; somehow the JVM didn't exit when Studio was to have re-started after the update. Once I bought that down and restarted Studio, the JVM and all, Studio 1.5 seems to be working just fine so far.
Sorry for the interruption to your regularly scheduled development!
There is definitely some issue with the upgrade as I also faced the same problem.
Although restarting the system (Mac) fixed it.
I have downloaded android studio and sdk and everything required but when I start a new project studio starts downloading gradle which is already downloaded with android studio. If I try to stop that download, it can't be stopped, I need to shutdown my laptop.
Please tell me why this happens!
And if I import any project then it shows a message that gradle build failed and tells me to install build tools API Level 7 which NOBODY uses now a days. What's wrong with this studio??
I am using Ubuntu 14.04, .gradle directory of my home folder has files of more than 300 Mb I don't understand what this android studio keeps downloading.
Please help me fixing this problem
That is normal one time download of maven gradle dependencies and packages. However it usually takes a long time to download and build. Not sure what are the reasons for this.
Android studio contains gradle essentials, but for some reasons that is insufficient to run command line tools.
There is a workaround to skip this download by adding gradle repo directory to android studio settings (Configure --> Settings --> Gradle). You have to manually add GRADLE_HOME to the system PATH variable according to your operating system. Run gradle-v in command line to confirm everything works right.
