I'd like to capture my desktop through the back camera of my emulator. I'm aware that you can set it to use your computers webcam or even a remote camera but I haven't found any information on using the camera to take a photo on what is behind the emulator window.
The reason I'd like to do this is that I have a presentation to give of my app which is done over a desktop sharing session. So I cannot easily demonstrate with a genuine device.
I'd therefore like to be able to move one emulator over the other so that I may take a photo of a QR code that the second QR code generated.
Is this possible?
Cheers
I would suggest you use AirDroid and Vysor. Both of them are free, and can mirror your phone on the screen of your computer.
I was wondering if there was a known camera that was compatible with android OS's. (such as the nexus 7).
I am trying to essentially control a high resolution digial camera from the android tablet so that it can control when to take a picture, and then retrieve the picture.
This would require a camera with a public API.
I have experience in android programming but not too much in communicating between two different devices. So i was wondering what I should look into in order to achieve this.
Here is a camera that runs Android: http://news.yahoo.com/samsung-takes-aim-japanese-rivals-android-camera-034717081--finance.html
And since it is Android I guess that the API is public.
And the same camera with more info: http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/galaxy-camera/galaxy-camera/EK-GC100ZWABTU and it does run what look like standard android apps.
If you want to control that from another Android device, I think that would make a very interesting project.
The other possibility is the Nikon external control SDK, but I have no idea what language that is in. That was used to build the excellent Sofortbild app for Macs, which controls most Nikon DSLRs. https://sdk.nikonimaging.com/apply/
There are Android applications which can control a set of cameras with added features. The one I'm using gives me the ability to take very specific timelapse shots which would be too complicated or even impossible to get through the camera's own controls. You can find many other control apps on the play store.
Unfortunately this one is only for Canon EOS cameras : DSLR Controller
I want to make an application that uses the android camera, but I want to test it using the emulator. I don't have a webcam to use for live image, so I want to know if I can do it faking a still image (somehow) or I will need to use something like a fake cam on my desktop pc, and then make it be used by the android emulator.
I searched about some solutions but they appears old. Anyone is using something like that and can point me to a "fresh" solution?
I need to view the live screen of my Android mobile on a Windows PC. My Android phone has a mini-HDMI output. Is there any adapter/software that helps me to achieve this? The applications that I found after searching needs the device to be rooted to control it. I don't want to remotely control the device. I just need to get the live feed from the mobile.
Actually, there are some relatively affordable HDMI-DVI adapters on the market. Couple them with a mini-HDMI to full HDMI cable and you've got yourself a decent hardware setup.
Some notes:
HDMI carries audio and video, while DVI carries only video. However, the two have no difference in video quality, and they use the same encoding.
as Mgamerz said, support for the HDMI outputs on Android phones has been, thus far, dismal. Your phone might have the port, but your ROM might not support it. Furthermore, some apps won't even acknowledge the existence of the HDMI, again, because so few phones have them.
From a hardware and an encoding point of view, this is COMPLETELY possible, but from a software point of view, it is likely IMPOSSIBLE. If you figure out how to do what you're trying, definitely tell as many people as possible.
You're going to need HDMI mirroring, which means you'll need a high end device (most likely dual cores), and support for it is going to have to be built into the rom. I own an atrix, and developers have slaved for months to get HDMI mirroring on it, but only some progress has been made.
Otherwise, unless your device supports it, you won't be able to do it. It's dependent on hardware too.
Edit: There might be some apps to do it but I doubt they will achieve what you seek. HDMI mirroring typically doesn't go past 20fps either (on a dual core 1Ghz).
To use the HDMI port, you'd need something that can accept HDMI input.
Very few computers can do so (except possibly some smart-tv type boxes).
However, there's a good chance that the monitor connected to your computer can. It might even have a spare input.
In other words, displaying your phone's output "in a window" on your monitor is extremely difficult. But by pushing a button or swapping a cable, you may well be able to display your phone's output on the entire monitor, in place of the computer's.
Practically speaking, if you need it in a window, or the device doesn't have HDMI out, the most common solution seems to be a high-end webcam in a fixture to aim it at the device. I saw a presentation that was delivered this way, displaying on very large flatscreen TVs, and didn't even realize that the slides were coming from an Android tablet as seen by an overhead camera until the presenter picked up the tablet and slid a phone into it's place.

Try this app from mymobiler. it works on motorola atrx 2 with android 2.3.6 rooted.
The site lists only a few supported models but it seems working on other models too.
You can get the full access to the mobile screen in your windows application windows.
It can also capture screenshots and take video of the actions on the screen.
I want to access my android device (Nexus S) from my pc remotely. I was thinking of an application that would activate the camera and sent the video to my pc, something like Skype but without sound. My first thought was using a VPN connection, but it is a little bit restrictive as it is available only for API Level 14. I dont want to use a server cause I'll have to pay, unless I can avoid it.The concept is using the device for security like a wireless camera. Any ideas would be appreciated.
use an app called IpWebcam. It converts your phone into a wireless webcam. You may see the live video through browser or a player. Install it and you'll find the instructions inside :)
