How to add a character counter to a material design textfield in Android studio Java

I am trying to add a character counter to a material design textfield, this is the textfield xml code:

this works nicely and the counter appears,

but then i want to make the textfield to be vertically bigger, so it works as a textarea where you can write multiple lines and always has the same height. So i change the layout height of textfield and textInputEditText, the code looks like this:

bigger textfield without counter
And now the character counter has dissapeared (im assuming its hidden under the textfield). ¿Why doesn't it move to be at the end of the textfield?
¿is there any other way to do this? i have tried normal textfield and the same happens

I think it's because the TextInputLayout has a fixed height as I saw in your code android:layout_height="150dp"

Setting on click listener to TextInputEditText drawable Right/End android studio

I am having a Text Input Layout with Text Input Edit Text inside. The Text Input Edit Text has a Drawable at the end. What i want to achieve is make the drawable at the end do something when it is clicked for example show a Toast message

How can i achieve this

Don't use android:drawableRight or android:drawableEnd in the TextInputEditText.
Instead you can use:
<com.google.android.material.textfield.TextInputLayout
...
app:endIconMode="custom"
app:endIconDrawable="#drawable/..."
and then use the endIconOnClickListener:
textInputLayout.setEndIconOnClickListener {
// Respond to end icon presses
}

Android: View.Gone not working for AutoCompleteTextview as ExposedDropdownMenu

I have an ExposedDropDownMenu as a Spinner as recommended from Material.IO. My problem is that, View.Gone does not work and leaves an arrow in the view and therefore still occupies space.

Can you try hiding the TextInputLayout instead of the contained AutoCompleteTextView. Add an id for the outer TextInputLayout like this:

android:layout_width="0dp"

android:layout_height="wrap_content"

and then in code:
dropdown_layout.visibility = View.GONE

If you want to remove the dropdown icon just use:
textInputLayout.endIconMode = TextInputLayout.END_ICON_NONE

How do I top start the hint text within an TextInputEditText in Android?

I need [top|start] hint text an TextInputEditText..
I use android:gravity="top|start" hint text still in center, but the text content is correct (top start)

why you not try by adding this android:ellipsize="top|start"

Probably it's an issue related to material design library. I have checked with different version and found different scenarios for same layout. Among them below version gives me the result that you want to achieve.

Can you add a textview or something similar as a child to a textinputlayout?

I have an application that uses a lot of textinputlayouts because I like the style they create
on one screen I am showing info on one object and I want it too look like the data the user entered with the textinputedittexts , small caption above and the data below
right now I have a textinputlayout with a disabled textinputedittext below
is there a way to just have a textview under the textinputlayout that will be shown in the same style?

what I am trying to avoid is not use clickable and inputtype etc etc in EVERY view that I'm trying to create, and instead use a single view
so other than creating a custom edittext (like NeverEnabledEditText) that starts unclickabke in every way, or add all those attributes to my xml, is there a way to do the above?

Although a TextInputEditText, now you have it acting like a textview because you can't edit it but can set text to it. You're welcome !
