Cannot find AGP version in build files & empty Android Gradle Plugin Version - android

Android Studio Upgrade Assistant recommends to update Android Gradle Plugin from version 7.0.0. to x.x.x. However, the problem is that it alerts "Cannot find AGP version in build files". I'm struggling with this message and I found the empty AGP version in my project structure. I've already checked
gradle-7.3-bin
inside
C:\Users\abc.gradle\wrapper\dists' and allocated 'Gradle user home'
as 'C:\Users\abc\.gradle.
That dropdown button below the 'Android Gradle Plugin Version' has nothing and I want to find out why and how to fix it. Is this related with the AGP upgrade?

I got the same error when in Android Studio I tried to use Tools > AGP Upgrade Assistant.
For those who don't know, the Android Gradle Plugin is the dependency com.android.tools.build:gradle: specified in the project-level build.gradle (to be clear, not my module-level build.gradle).
In my case, the problem was that my project-level build.gradle file specified the version of the Android Gradle Plugin using a variable rather than hardcoding the version.
My project had the following variable in my gradle.properties and referenced it in my build.gradle file:
gradle_version=7.2.2
It referenced it in the project-level build.gradle file like this:
classpath "com.android.tools.build:gradle:$gradle_version"
To fix the problem, I changed my project-level build.gradle file from this:
classpath "com.android.tools.build:gradle:$gradle_version"
To this:
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:7.3.1'
After that change, Tools > AGP Upgrade Assistant stopped complaining "Cannot find AGP version in build files". Furthermore, I was able to use AGP Upgrade Assistant to upgrade from com.android.tools.build:gradle:7.2.2 to com.android.tools.build:gradle:7.3.1.

Unsupported method: AndroidArtifact.getBuildConfigFields()

I have just updated to Android Studio 4.0 and trying to build my project. I keep on getting the below error
Unsupported method: AndroidArtifact.getBuildConfigFields().
The version of Gradle you connect to does not support that method.
To resolve the problem you can change/upgrade the target version of Gradle you connect to.
Alternatively, you can ignore this exception and read other information from the model.
I am already using the latest version of Gradle and Gradle Plugin
Gradle version:
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-6.5-milestone-1-all.zip
Gradle plugin tools version:
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:4.1.0-alpha10'
Any solution or fix for this problem would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
Use Android studio 4.1 preview
or
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:4.0.0'
This is usually due to a mismatch between your Android Studio versions and the Android Gradle plugin.
You can find the version of Android Studio on the project selection window when you first open it (or in "Android Studio > About Android Studio" on Mac, and similar location on other platforms). For example, you might be using Android Studio 4.0.1.
You can find the Android Gradle plugin version for your project in the top-level build.gradle file.
You should find something like the following:
buildscript {
[...]
dependencies {
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:4.0.1'
[...]
}
[...]
}
You need to make sure that the two version numbers match (in this case they do).

Android studio gradle upgrade

Anyone has an idea on how to upgrade gradle from within android studio. The pop-up appears telling me to upgrade gradle but version never updates.
I've tried downloading it and unzipping it in the .gralde folder and changing the path, a gradle error persists and resolving it only re-creates the old gradle file and overwrites the new one.
Set gradle and android plugin version under the Projects tab in Project structure (File -> Project Structure). Clicking Ok will sync gradle files.
Alternatively to update gradle through code this may be helpful.
Update Gradle version
find gradle folder inside your project
Open gradle-wrapper.properties
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-3.3-all.zip
Update Android Gradle plugin
Open build.gradle file of your project
Inside buildscript tag update
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:2.3.3'
After making these changes refresh gradle dependency.

Could not find gradle 3.1

The latest version of gradle is 3.1 enter link description here
but Android Studio is only using 2.2?
enter link description here
This seems likes a huge discrepancy. My configuration:
buildscript {
repositories {
jcenter()
mavenCentral()
maven { url "https://oss.sonatype.org/content/repositories/snapshots/" }
}
dependencies {
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:2.2'
classpath 'de.felixschulze.gradle:gradle-hockeyapp-plugin:3.2'
classpath 'com.michaelpardo:activeandroid:3.1.0-SNAPSHOT'
}
}
allprojects {
repositories {
jcenter()
}
}
When I try to find gradle 3.1, I get an error that it cannot find it. Same now with 2.2 > Could not find com.android.tools.build:gradle:2.2.
But gradle -v shows
gradle -v
------------------------------------------------------------
Gradle 2.2
how do I resolve this?
You are confusing Gradle with the Android gradle plugin, which generally matches the version of Android Studio. The latest version (at time of writing) is 2.2.2. It is generally set in your project's base build.gradle as you have shown above.
The Gradle wrapper is what you're looking for. You can change the wrapper's settings in your project's gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties file.
Change
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-2.14.1-all.zip
to
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-3.1-all.zip
Again, this is separate from the Android gradle plugin, which simply marries Gradle with Android Studio.
Find all distributions here
Here is the Gradle Version Compatibility for Android Studio
Gradle

A problem occurred research project ': sample'.
Failed to apply plugin [id 'com.android.application']
Minimum supported Gradle version is 3.3. Current version is 3.2.1.
The current gradle configuration is also changed to 3.3. The project is running without problems, but can not use the command line (gradle and ./gradlew).
Refer to the online program:
1. Modify gradle-wrapper.properties, and Invalidate Caches / Restart ..., or do not work.
Later in the gradle forum to find a program: Thank you Henry
As new release with the fix not available yet, the former walk-around works fine.
Buildscript {
System.properties ['com.android.build.gradle.overrideVersionCheck'] = 'true'
...
}
. So mark what.
Correction statement : I later found that I installed the sdkman tool,
the tool installed 3.2.1 version, and this should be related (⊙ o ⊙)!
. At the beginning of the show gradle version, will show 3.2.1
version (I am still very depressed, change or show 3.2.1), I have
changed to the environment variable 3.3. I set the gradle environment
variable first, the following is set sdkman environment variable (this
order may also affect). So the final reason is still installed 3.2.1
version.

How to update Gradle Plugin version?

I am trying to run a project and it shows me:
Error running app: This version of Android Studio is incompatible with
the Gradle Plugin used. Try disabling Instant Run (or updating either
the IDE or the Gradle plugin to the latest version)
What should I do?
How can I update gradle?
The gradle plugin is declared inside the build.gradle file in your modules or in your root folder (top-level file).
Use:
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:2.0.0'
Also this requires gradle 2.10 (don't confuse the gradle plugin with gradle).
The gradle version is defined in gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties.
Use:
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-2.10-all.zip
For automatic update, you may set the version in Android Studio > File > Project Structure > Project > Android Plugin Version
Please note that you might also need to update Gradle Version. For gradle and gradle plugin compatibility, you may refer to the docs.
Sync gradle afterwards. This will automatically set the distribution URL as well.

Fix Plugin Version and Sync Project

I have recently updated my Android Studio.
After updating it, When I am trying to import or open a project it gives me following error :
Gradle Sync Issue
Error:Error:Gradle 2.4 requires Android Gradle plugin 1.2.0 (or newer) but project is using version 1.1.0.
Please use Android Gradle plugin 1.2.0 or newer.
Fix plugin version and sync project
Is there any solution for this problem ?
In your build.gradle you should use a newer version of the gradle plugin.
Use classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:1.3.1'instead of classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:1.1.0'. Or at least 1.2.0, as the error points out.
change in your progect build.gradle file
dependencies {
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:1.2.3'
}
As Android Studio was just officially updated to 1.3 (Gradle as well).
Please Change gradle version to 1.3.+ in build.gradle . It should now look like this:
dependencies {
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:1.3.+'
// in the individual module build.gradle files
}
I met this question,too. Modifying dependencies stuff is confuse me. From#Mykaelos answer, For Windows Android Studio, Go into File > Settings > "Build, Execution, Deployment" > "Build Tools" > Gradle and change it to "Use default gradle wrapper (recommended)", I tried it in early hours, and it works for me.
