It will be better to know if it is possible to do in XML using Linear layout or other layout
You can use Relative,Linear or Constraint
Try inside Constraint layout
<androidx.appcompat.widget.AppCompatImageView
android:id="#+id/ivPlaceHolder"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:padding="4dp"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent"
android:src="#drawable/ic_baseline_library_music_24"/>
<View
android:id="#+id/viewLine"
android:layout_width="1dp"
android:layout_height="50dp"
android:background="#color/teal_200"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toTopOf="#+id/ivPlaceHolder1"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="#+id/ivPlaceHolder"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="#+id/ivPlaceHolder"
app:layout_constraintTop_toBottomOf="#id/ivPlaceHolder" />
<androidx.appcompat.widget.AppCompatImageView
android:id="#+id/ivPlaceHolder1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:padding="4dp"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toBottomOf="#id/viewLine"
android:src="#drawable/ic_baseline_library_music_24"/>
Linear Layout Code :
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_marginStart="12dp"
android:orientation="vertical"
tools:context=".MainActivity">
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView1"
android:layout_width="32dp"
android:layout_height="32dp"
android:contentDescription="#null"
android:src="#drawable/ic_android_black_24dp"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent" />
<View
android:id="#+id/viewLine"
android:layout_width="2dp"
android:layout_height="24dp"
android:layout_gravity="center"
android:background="#33E24D" />
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView2"
android:layout_width="32dp"
android:layout_height="32dp"
android:contentDescription="#null"
android:src="#drawable/ic_android_black_24dp"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent" />
</LinearLayout>
You can obtain the required result with the help of LinearLayout. Change the orientation to vertical in the LinearLayout.
android:orientation="vertical"
You can use View for obtaining the straight line between two images.
This is a sample code for the same. Hope this works for you.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical">
<ImageView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:srcCompat="#drawable/ic_launcher_background" />
<View
android:layout_width="3dp"
android:layout_height="100dp"
android:layout_gravity="center_horizontal"
android:background="#color/black" />
<ImageView
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:srcCompat="#drawable/ic_launcher_background" />
</LinearLayout>
Related
Sorry for long post, but it isn't long. But only looks long due to images.
I wanted to make layout like below:
So I wrote a layout for it as under
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="80dp"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:padding="5dp">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="horizontal">
<ImageView
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_width="70dp"
android:src="#drawable/ic_launcher_background"
android:id="#+id/stock_item_image_small"/>
<!-- Arrow at the end of the fragment item -->
<ImageView
android:layout_width="30dp"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:src="#drawable/ic_chevron_right_black_18dp"/>
</LinearLayout>
</FrameLayout>
And this is visible as below
I then added a long string with below code
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="80dp"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:padding="5dp">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="horizontal">
<ImageView
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_width="70dp"
android:src="#drawable/ic_launcher_background"
android:id="#+id/stock_item_image_small"/>
<TextView
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center_vertical"
android:textColor="#android:color/black"
android:text="A line to string which is long enough to overflow our of container"/>
<!-- Arrow at the end of the fragment item -->
<ImageView
android:layout_width="30dp"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:src="#drawable/ic_chevron_right_black_18dp"/>
</LinearLayout>
</FrameLayout>
And it now looks like below.
As you can see, the arrow at the end, which was visible prior to adding a TextView has now overflown out of the view and is not visible.
I basically want to know how can we add components one after another and they don't flow out of the view
How can I fix this ?
Also, can someone suggest a good material to for Layouts or begining with Android layout design ?
UPDATE:
I incorporated the suggestions of Ichvandi Octa, and wrote below code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="80dp"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:padding="5dp">
<!-- Added to create border around frame -->
<!-- Achieved using corner radius and padding -->
<androidx.cardview.widget.CardView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:cardCornerRadius="10dp"
app:contentPadding="1dp"
android:backgroundTint="#android:color/black"
app:cardElevation="20dp">
<androidx.cardview.widget.CardView
android:layout_margin="0dp"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:cardCornerRadius="10dp">
<androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/fragment_stock_item_image"
android:layout_width="70dp"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:src="#drawable/ic_launcher_background"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toStartOf="#id/fragment_stock_item_name"/>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/fragment_stock_item_name"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textColor="#android:color/black"
android:text="A line to string which is long enough to overflow our of container and it has lot of text"
app:layout_constraintStart_toEndOf="#id/fragment_stock_item_image"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="#id/fragment_stock_item_image"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="#id/fragment_stock_item_image"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toStartOf="#id/_fragment_stock_frame_line_sep"/>
<androidx.cardview.widget.CardView
android:layout_width="10dp"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/_fragment_stock_frame_line_sep"
app:layout_constraintStart_toEndOf="#id/fragment_stock_item_name"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="#id/fragment_stock_item_name"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="#id/fragment_stock_item_name"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toStartOf="#id/fragment_stock_item_qty">
<androidx.cardview.widget.CardView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:backgroundTint="#android:color/darker_gray"
android:layout_marginLeft="4.5dp"
android:layout_marginRight="4.5dp"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:layout_marginBottom="10dp"/>
</androidx.cardview.widget.CardView>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/fragment_stock_item_qty"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="200"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toStartOf="#id/_fragment_stock_item_arrow"
app:layout_constraintStart_toEndOf="#id/_fragment_stock_frame_line_sep"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="#id/_fragment_stock_frame_line_sep"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="#id/_fragment_stock_frame_line_sep"/>
<ImageView
android:layout_width="30dp"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/_fragment_stock_item_arrow"
android:src="#drawable/ic_chevron_right_black_18dp"
app:layout_constraintStart_toEndOf="#id/fragment_stock_item_qty"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"/>
</androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout>
</androidx.cardview.widget.CardView>
</androidx.cardview.widget.CardView>
</FrameLayout>
But now, I this number '200' is taking too much space.
Try this out
<androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"

app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent"
app:srcCompat="#drawable/ic_arrow_right_black" />
</androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout>
it should be like this
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"

android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginEnd="8dp"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"

android:layout_marginTop="8dp"
android:layout_marginEnd="16dp"
android:layout_marginBottom="8dp"
android:background="#android:color/black"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toStartOf="#+id/textView67"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/textView67"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"

android:layout_marginEnd="8dp"
android:text="2"
android:textAppearance="#style/TextAppearance.AppCompat.Large"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="#+id/imageView26"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toStartOf="#+id/imageView26"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="#+id/imageView26" />
</androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout>
Now, it should be like this
I have two imageView widgets and I would like to place them so that there is equal space between the left border and the left image, the left image and the right image, and the right image and the right border. (I wrote in the title of the question space-around because it's similar to the spacing used in CSS...)
Is it possible to achieve without manual adaptation (such as calculating margins)? And is it possible to achieve solely in the design mode without writing xml code?
Screen shot:
My XML:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"

android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#drawable/newbackground"
tools:context=".MainActivity">
<Button
android:id="#+id/btnRoll"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#3498db"
android:text="#string/btnRoll"
android:textColor="#ffffff"
tools:layout_editor_absoluteX="167dp"
tools:layout_editor_absoluteY="621dp" />
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView2"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="#+id/imageView3"
app:srcCompat="#drawable/dice1"
tools:layout_editor_absoluteX="59dp" />
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imageView3"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:srcCompat="#drawable/dice2"
tools:layout_editor_absoluteX="267dp"
tools:layout_editor_absoluteY="406dp" />
</androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout>
Try This
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"

android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"

android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#3498db"
android:text="btnRoll"
android:textColor="#ffffff"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent" />
<ImageView

app:layout_constraintHorizontal_bias="0.5"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent"
app:srcCompat="#drawable/blue_heart" />

android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:contentDescription="#string/app_name"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toTopOf="#id/btnRoll"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintStart_toEndOf="#+id/imageView2"
app:srcCompat="#drawable/blue_heart" />
</androidx.constraintlayout.widget.ConstraintLayout>
Here is a proposition with a LinearLayout
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="horizontal">
<View
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1" />
<ImageView ... />
<View
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1" />
<ImageView ... />
<View
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1" />
<ImageView ...
</LinearLayout>
With the layout_weight attribute, the "spacer" views will take the maximum of free space, equally
I am creating a layout in android but the problem is layout is not created as same in design.
I want to create layout like below image i.e.
but the problem is my design distort in some devices like
enter image description here
<RelativeLayout android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_below="#id/lay1"
android:layout_margin="#dimen/dp20"
>
<ImageView android:id="#+id/kk"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:src="#drawable/move_stock_bar"
android:background="#android:color/transparent"
android:scaleType="centerCrop"
/>
<ImageButton android:id="#+id/ibPlus"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:background="#android:color/transparent"
android:src="#drawable/btn_edit"
android:layout_toRightOf="#id/kk"
android:layout_marginLeft="-100dp"
android:layout_marginTop="#dimen/dp10"
/>
<ImageButton android:id="#+id/ibMinus"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:background="#android:color/transparent"
android:src="#drawable/btn_edit"
android:layout_toRightOf="#id/kk"
android:layout_below="#id/ibPlus"
android:layout_marginLeft="-100dp"
android:layout_marginTop="-40dp"
/>
</RelativeLayout>
#mishti I have just used this concept to make the design appear to like what you gave. Try this with ImageView using the weight. It displays the same to all screens if we use weight.
<LinearLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:weightSum="10">
<Button
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="120dp"
android:layout_weight="6"
android:text="Image View"/>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_weight="4"
android:layout_gravity="start"
android:gravity="start">
<ImageView
android:layout_marginTop="20dp"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:src="#drawable/edit_icon"
android:background="#FF0"
android:layout_gravity="start"
/>
<ImageView
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:src="#drawable/edit_icon"
android:background="#FF0"
android:layout_gravity="start"
/>
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
Use ConstraintLayout for complex layout, it provides you more flexiblity. I did the same layout as in the image attached with question. I am using Guidelines, so i can use this same layout on different screen size and it will work fine.
I am using "app:srcCompat" attribute for setting the image because i am using Vector image here.

I'm making an application that gets the categories of foods from a remote database and put them in a recyclerView
but the positions keep changing after setting the text,
I need the "see more" to remain on the right side like this

How can I solve this problem?
This is how it looks now
.
That's my code:

Thanks to CodeRed answer, I found the answer, hope it will help someone else. It was a wrap-content error

I cannot try this myself but I am sure that your android:layout_width in the second LinearLayout is the suspect. As you can see, the See More > is floating in the right however the width itself is restricting it to go further
Recently I've bumped into a strange ConstraintLayout behavior. What I tried to do was a simple layout with ImageView, Button and a TextView. Here's the code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto">
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/image"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:adjustViewBounds="true"
android:contentDescription="#null"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/text"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:paddingBottom="10dp"
android:paddingEnd="20dp"
android:paddingStart="20dp"
android:text="TEST TEXT"
android:paddingTop="20dp"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="#id/image"
app:layout_constraintTop_toBottomOf="#+id/button" />
<android.support.v4.widget.Space
android:id="#+id/marginSpacer"
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_marginBottom="10dp"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="#id/image" />
<Button
android:id="#id/button"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginEnd="20dp"
android:layout_marginStart="20dp"
android:background="#drawable/button_bg"
android:text="BUTTON"
app:layout_constraintTop_toBottomOf="#id/marginSpacer" />
</android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout>
The ImageView content is loaded using Glide like this:
Glide.with(this).load("https://homepages.cae.wisc.edu/~ece533/images/monarch.png").into(imageView);
Here is how I wanted it to look like:
And here's what I actually got:
My intent was to make the text align relative to the button, not the image, how do I make this happen? Why did the ConstraintLayout clip itself to the ImageView? On the other hand, if I align the text relative to the image everything works great and nothing is clipped.

Use this for your Button:
#+id/button
instead of
android:id="#id/button"
You'll be able to design urself.
I would suggest you to add loading image:
.placeholder(R.drawable.ic_error_black_48px)
My Layout:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
tools:layout_editor_absoluteY="81dp">
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/image"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:adjustViewBounds="true"
android:contentDescription="#null" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/text"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginStart="20dp"
android:layout_marginTop="8dp"
android:paddingBottom="10dp"
android:paddingEnd="20dp"
android:paddingStart="20dp"
android:paddingTop="20dp"
android:text="TEST TEXT"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="#+id/ButtonLayout"
app:layout_constraintTop_toBottomOf="#+id/ButtonLayout" />
<android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout
android:id="#+id/ButtonLayout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginStart="8dp"
android:layout_marginTop="8dp"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="#+id/image"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toBottomOf="#+id/image">
<View
android:id="#+id/dummyView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="15dp" />
<Button
android:id="#+id/button"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginEnd="20dp"
android:layout_marginStart="20dp"
android:background="#drawable/button_bg"
android:text="BUTTON"
app:layout_constraintEnd_toEndOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintTop_toBottomOf="#+id/dummyView" />
</android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout>
</android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout>
Preview:
You need to align something to the bottom of the parent
Align TEST TEXT TextView bottom to the bottom of parent like this:
<TextView
android:id="#+id/text"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:paddingBottom="10dp"
android:paddingEnd="20dp"
android:paddingStart="20dp"
android:text="TEST TEXT"
android:paddingTop="20dp"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"
app:layout_constraintStart_toStartOf="#id/image"
app:layout_constraintTop_toBottomOf="#+id/button" />
And add plus sign in button id
<Button
android:id="#+id/button"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginEnd="20dp"
android:layout_marginStart="20dp"
android:background="#drawable/button_bg"
android:text="BUTTON"
app:layout_constraintTop_toBottomOf="#id/marginSpacer" />
Try this :
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
