I need some help finding the Gradle build logs in Android Studio. I keep running into compatibility issues when adding new Android features to my apps. My latest one was adding Room db. My app compiles fine. I add the new dependencies in build.gradle and the app compiles fine again. As soon as I start trying to use Room I try to build my app it fails. I end up spending hours trying to troubleshoot my build.gradle files to find my errors. (This has happened a few times) The Error I got this time is:
org.gradle.api.GradleException: Compilation error. See log for more
details.
I can't find where the log is. I am using Android Studio Chipmunk in Fedora 36. I saw an old posts that showed a buttons and links to the logs. The posts were older and the users were on Windows and Mac-OS. I don't seem to have them in the Linux version. I can't be the only one running into this. This seems like such a novice issue but I have been looking for a while and can't find the answer. I don't know how to effectively troubleshoot this if I can't see the detailed errors. Any help is greatly appreciated.
My build.gradle logs are located in /tmp.
I found them by going to the Help menu then selecting Collect Logs and Diagnostic Data in Android Studio. This then gave me a popup with an option to Show in Files. The file that appears to contain the data is kotlin-daemon.timestamp.log where time stamp is going to by different for you.

I have been using Android studio for a long time, yet never understood what are the processes that Android studio runs at when we load a new project via File>New or File>Open. We just load the project and have to wait for so many minutes before the android studio completes those processes (I know that we can still click on file names and editor would open them, but i have observed the android studio will still lag until all those processes are completed)
However I don't know how, recently My Android studio started behaving differently. I don't know what i did, But every time i created a new project, or loaded a previous one, it would show a message like this:
This was very good for me, because even when i don't click the try again
button, I am still able to access all files and without any lag, thereby removing a need for external file editor. I feel this was some bug in gradle or cache handling that got fixed when i uninstalled AS and updated to AS 3.5 .
So is there a way to manually run all those build and indexing processes, instead of Android Studio just running them automatically?
UPDATE:
I think i was not clear before. I want that error to occur . Meaning I want to have a control over when the building process starts. Also, I am NOT having any error as of now, all my projects are working fine.
Look for highlighted warnings in you Gradle file, you may need to update some things and then sync again.
You could also try to clean and rebuild your project.
You can also File->Invalidate Caches / Restart if none of the above work.
If none of the above work, please provide more details on what warnings/errors you get.
When version conflict in gradle file, it cant be able to build and sync the project. There may be show "Unsupported Modules Detected: Compilation is not supported for following modules”. Fix them too
How to understand what and why really happens behind Gradle: Build? There is no console or crashes, just endless building. Maybe there is network issue which happens again and again, but how can developer know it?
This is a sample of just new project:
From terminal everything works fine. So the question is not about how to solve particular problem, but more about generic solution when IDE doesn't show anything except "progress".
You can execute ./gradlew build manually in the terminal to see its logs. You can also add --debug or --stacktraceparameter to enable verbose logging.
I have a similar answer to Andre, but with a suggestion of some potential culprits.
If an issue is happening, Android Studio is just a GUI wrapper on the terminal. So just run the commands and see what the hold up or error is.
However, Often times when I see freezing up that takes a long time to fail it is network related items. Such as an internal Maven repo that is not resolving properly. So check your internal Maven repos as well that they exist and you set them up correctly.
You can also turn off the internet and start it up, it will load into offline mode and not attempt to load any internet items and offers popup to move to offline mode in gradle. This will give you a chance to make your corrections until Android Studio improves these issues.
Rather than Choosing Start a New Android Project, Open an Existing Project and then
goto file>>new >>new Project
If You create android project by following these steps , You can see every error of you gradle build in
logcat
I am working on an application. My app is running perfectly. Don't know what goes wrong and I am continuously getting this error when running the app. I tried almost each and everything written on internet but failed to solve the error. I am attaching screenshot of my error as well as my gradle's also. Please help. It almost wasted my 2 days.

To flesh out Storesource's comment, right click on your project's root in Android Studio and then click Analyze>Inspect Code. You'll almost certainly have at least one error, which you can then stamp out and successfully rebuild.
So I have just started my first app in which I have a button and when user clicks on it then it just print the message.
But when I build the app and when I run that app on android studio's console then after opening it crashes and then it stops working.
Meanwhile I have searched for the error and they suggested me to see logcat table or the text file in which I can easily see the errors but after it I am stuck because I have no idea that how can I solve such problem.
Please help me with it.
Not sure how capable you are with android and you haven't given us much info to work with.
could you post a brief description of the logcat from launching the apk to the apk actually crashing?
the logcat is gonna be the best option to diagnose it.
Are you using the android sdk and emulator?
Have you updated the resources and api's?
If you go into the resource list there should a online repo with a whole lot more SDK bits you might find help.
What api's and android version is your apk built from and is your emulator emulating the same android build?
Could be the apks GUI resolution or script related, have you checked through it all?
Microsoft visual studios has a very good debug system and trouble shoot but I'm not sure if android is compatible as I've only used wp8 on it. Worth finding out though.
I previously had a working android project when I was using IntelliJ IDEA 14. I could run the project by pressing the play button, and it would install and start the application on my device.
I recently updated to 14.1. The code still appears to compile fine, I can see that it generates an APK and I can view it in the output folder (out/production/myapp/myapp.apk), but now I get an error when I attempt to run the project:
Error:No main class for module: app
I've tried creating two new projects, one based on the Android->Application Module template and another based on the Android->Gradle: Application Module template, and both have the same issue - they spit out the error above with the default configuration.
I assume that this must work on other users boxes, particularly because I haven't found anything online or any bug reports about it, but I guess there is a very minute possibility that I'm the first one to find this.
Is this an issue with IntelliJ IDEA 14.1 or just my box? Any ideas on how to fix it or where to start would be greatly appreciated.
I was having similar issue.
Do you have haxe plugin installed? Try to uninstall and try after that and it should work.
