We are trying to use the Kiosk mode feature of SOTI MobiControl to run our application on a kiosk. We are currently testing on a Zebra TC52 (an Android device) until we get our Elo kiosks.
We’ve set up a profile for our app that uses the Lockdown configuration. It “kind of” works, but isn’t quite doing what we expect.
When we power on the machine, it comes up in the normal startup screen. If I swipe up, then it takes us to our app screen. However, the status bar is showing, and can be pulled down.
However, if I click on the Home button, then the status bar goes away, and we’re closer to where we wanted to be. There is still a back button at the bottom of the screen.
We were hoping:
That when the machine starts, it would immediately go to our app screen, instead of requiring someone to swipe up to get the app to start.
That there would be no status bar, or bottom icons.
This app will be customer facing, so we want our app, and only our app, to ever show on the screen.
I’m not sure if any of these limitations are specifically because we’re using a TC52 instead of an actual kiosk device, but to my mind, they’re both just Android devices.
I have included screen shots of our configuration and the results on the device.
Can anyone see anything we are missing? Or are we expecting too much from the SOTI configuration for kiosks?
at least to disable the Lock Screen you can use the free Zebra StageNow tool (https://www.zebra.com/de/de/support-downloads/software/utilities/stagenow.html).
You can create a lot of device specific setting, just check https://techdocs.zebra.com/mx/ for the setting to disable the swipe lock screen.
in StageNow you can, after finish the Profile, export the Config for MDM
(upper right corner)
In Soti Mobicontrol u can use a script within Packages, Filesync, or direct on Device
mxconfig /sdcard/yoursetting.xm
to import the Setting to the Devices.
Depending on your Soti MC Version there are also some Settings available in the Lockdown Setting Profile to disable the Notification Bar, maybe also u can find some other usefull Settings in the MX Matrix..

I was just testing my app on Pixel3 XL emulator and noticed that the app bar is covered by the bezel. I thought the flutter framework handles this for app bar own its own.
Is there a way to fix this? I also looked at SafeArea but that probably would make me to manage the app bar on all the pages of BottomNavigationBar.
This is an issue with the emulator, not Flutter. If you open Chrome on the emulator you will see that it's also covered by the notch. You can also drag from the notch and the notification's pane will be dragged down, even thought it shouldn't be possible.
You can fix this though. Open the Android settings, go to to the About phone section and tap on the Build Number 7 times, to enable developer mode. Once that's done, in Settings, go to the System section, open Advanced and go to Developer options. Tap the Display cutout option and select Tall cutout. This will adjust the OS to account for the notch.
I moved from iPhone to Android (Samsung S7) and missing one feature. In iPhone I could use quick access to set clock and timer and set direct from locked screen if to press a button at quick access panel, shown at the picture with arrow. Is it possible to make a similar quick access to clock app in android from lock screen? To put it in android quick access panel or in some other way like third party app, etc: aiming to access clock app set on lock screen quick w/o logging in? Same question with Calculator app.
In Android you can do almost everything with apps.

I own a OnePlus so I know they have this option build in.
You can also use the Xposed module "GravityBox" or "LockscreenMods"
(it is not possible to bypass the unlockscreen through a lockscreen widget!)
I have developed a custom launcher/homescreen and it has been working perfectly on all android version for nearly two years. So far this launcher has been used in various Samsung devices.
Currently I am testing it in new huawei lua-u22 device. My launcher runs, can be set as default and shows up other apps on top of launcher too. But if I run another app (for example Gmail), screen lock(Swipe only) for 20-30 second, unlock device then press back button then instead of bringing it back to my launcher it goes back to default huawei homescreen. I checked by going to the settings-> home and there my launcher was still set as default. It only brings back my launcher home screen when I press home button again.
Is this problem of huawei device that is always redrawing default huwaei home as homescreen? Is there anyway I can track default selected home change at any time?
I found out the reason. In huawei after screen is tuned off my app was getting killed.
Huawei has a feature Protected Apps which allows application that is enabled in the list to keep running when screen is turned off. After I allowed my app in Protected apps it was not getting killed after screen turned off and everything now working properly.
To enable this feature go to System settings (which you can either find in the quick toggles portion of the notification shade by pulling down the status bar on the top portion of the screen). Go to All tab, Scroll down to Privacy and Security section, go to to Protected Apps and enable your app(this will control what’s allowed to run when the screen is off and what isn’t)
In stackoverflow there are few codes available to run this screen pro-grammatically which I do not find reliable enough as it may change in any new version of device.
I am building an app that will be in kiosk mode and must be over the lock screen its is possible using:
getWindow().addFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_SHOW_WHEN_LOCKED);
However, I now need to programmatically lock the screen when the app is starting, looking at this link, I see it needs administrator privileges that are a bit more complicated on the lollipop version, has anyone managed that?
For your need, you can use the Screen Pinning. It's a new functionnality added in Android 5 to limit the application a task.
Programmatically, you can use Activity.startLockTask() and Activity.stopLockTask() to pin/unpin the application.
Some things to know :
If your application is not an Admin app, a popup will appear and you'll have to manually confirm the pinning mode.
No notifications will be shown in this mode.
The Home and Recent Apps buttons will have no effects.
you can unpin the application with no confirmation, and if you have set a Keyguard screen, you'll need to unlock it to go back to your Home application.
A little background first. I'm developing an application for corporate devices running on the Android platform. It won't be distributed on the Play store and thus, is unavailable to the general public. The devices are owned by the company and its only purpose is to run this application. So accessing the home screen/notifications/application history/ app drawer are unnecessary and in fact we want to focus the user experience directly on this application.
The current problem I'm facing is preventing access to the notification tray. Simply making the application full screen is not a solution. We do actually need to see the status bar. It's the easiest way to provide network,gps and battery status information to the user.
So far my research has only turned up one solution, which is to go full screen (again, not a solution for this problem,I need the status bar to be visible). I know there's a number of lock screen apps that are able to do this so there must be a way. I just haven't found it yet.
I am not sure, but probably that you can't just lock notification bar from the application level. Android app is isolated from the Operating System and another apps, so it is not able to lock OS features.
Solution that came into my head is to make app fullscreen and create Your own status bar with battery level, current time and network status. It is not hard.
Another solution would be to prepare Your own Android distribution :)
Moreover probably You would like to override all buttons (home, back, search) so user is not able to leave your app.
Very likely is not going to be possible on a Stock device, you'd have to root and potentially install your own version of the OS to allow for this behavior. The system was purposefully made to disallow applications from having this type of behavior. The creators of the OS had the general public in mind as users, and they wanted to prevent applications from being able to "lock" the user out of portions of the device.
Much easier solution like #Jacek states is go full screen and make your own View to display whatever info that you do want from the Notifications bar, AFAIK there are public APIs to access all of that information.
