I have two fragments and want to show them as tab view.But Don"t know where to add those in the below code. These are the code when you select "tabbed activity" in android studio project.
public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
/**

* fragments for each of the sections. We use a
* {#link FragmentPagerAdapter} derivative, which will keep every
* loaded fragment in memory. If this becomes too memory intensive, it
* may be best to switch to a
* {#link android.support.v4.app.FragmentStatePagerAdapter}.
*/
private SectionsPagerAdapter mSectionsPagerAdapter;
/**
* The {#link ViewPager} that will host the section contents.
*/
private ViewPager mViewPager;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
// Create the adapter that will return a fragment for each of the three
// primary sections of the activity.
mSectionsPagerAdapter = new SectionsPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
// Set up the ViewPager with the sections adapter.
mViewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.container);
mViewPager.setAdapter(mSectionsPagerAdapter);
FloatingActionButton fab = (FloatingActionButton) findViewById(R.id.fab);
fab.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View view) {
Snackbar.make(view, "Replace with your own action", Snackbar.LENGTH_LONG)
.setAction("Action", null).show();
}
});
}
#Override

// Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present.

return true;
}

}else tv.setText("Hello");

}
} // This is the end of our Fragment1 Class
This is the place where you need to get your fragment to the specific tab respectively.
#Override
public Fragment getItem(int position) {
// getItem is called to instantiate the fragment for the given page.
// Return a PlaceholderFragment (defined as a static inner class below).
return PlaceholderFragment.newInstance(position + 1);
}
Use a switch case statement for the choosen position and get the fragment in tab.
switch (position) {
case 0:
// first fragment activity
return new firstfragment();
case 1:
// second fragment activity
return new secondFragment();
case 2:
// third fragment activity
return new thirdFragment();
}
return null;
}
public Fragment getItem(int position) {
// getItem is called to instantiate the fragment for the given page.
// Return a PlaceholderFragment (defined as a static inner class below).
switch (position) {
case 0:
Fragment1 tab1 = new Fragment1();
return tab1;
case 1:
Fragment2 tab2 = new Fragment2();
return tab2;
// return PlaceholderFragment.newInstance(position + 1);
}
return null;
}
Just changed the above code like this and in Fragment1 extends public class
Fragment1 extends android.support.v4.app.Fragment
First you have to specify how many tabs you are going to use with getCount() method:
#Override
public int getCount() {
int numberOfTabs = 3;
return numberOfTabs;
}
Then, you have to create your fragments your own and add them in getItem(int position) method like this:
#Override
public Fragment getItem(int position)
switch(position){
case 0:
return new YourFirstFragment();
case 1:
return new YourSecondFragment();
case 2:
return new YourThirdFragment();
default:
return new SomeFragment();
}
}
Then you will change the tab names using getPageTitle(int position) method like this:
#Override
public CharSequence getPageTitle(int position)
switch(position){
case 0:
return "First";
case 1:
return "Second";
case 2:
return "Third";
default:
return "Some";
}
}

I would like to switch between tabs without swiping left or right. Using the class below, that is one of the Android Studio activity, I'm trying, by using external events, to move from one tab to another.
How can I do it? What methods should I implement/override?

Maybe I can do it with:
#Override public void changeTab(int where) {
mViewPager.setCurrentItem(mViewPager.getCurrentItem()+where);
}
where changeTab() method is an interface defined in the mainActivity.
Also I have in my mainActivity:
intent=new Intent(this, Tabbed.class);
startActivity(intent);
How can I call changeTab() method from the mainActivity?
You can use the setCurrentItem() function of the ViewPager object for this.
Example:
mViewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.container);
mViewPager.setCurrentItem(2); // set number of desired tab
EDIT: For your second question, this has been asked a lot on StackOverflow. You cannot just call a method from another activity. You can add extra data to an intent to force the activity to start a function. But this does not apply to you, since you want to call the function after the intent is already created. I think you will have to take a look at listeners for your problem and for your communication between activities. Here is a question which is closely related to your problem, which can put you on your way.
I'm writing application with fragments and Viewpager.
I've got a problem because on each fragment is the same text.
I don't known how to refer to only one fragment.

By creating instance of your fragment, you put arguments in Bundle
args.putInt(ARG_SECTION_NUMBER, sectionNumber);
You can read them in onCreateView
sectionNumber = bundle.getInt(ARG_SECTION_NUMBER);
Then, for instance, change your text
message="Example text" + sectionNumber;

public class MyFragment extends Fragment {

if (isVisibleToUser) { }
else { }

The thing is when I go to the page be swipping through it works great but when I select the page in the tab it crashes "Attempt to invoke virtual method".
Please help me, thanks
I have a main activity, and then an activity for each fragment.

// Set up the ViewPager with the sections adapter.

// When swiping between different sections, select the corresponding

// a reference to the Tab.
mViewPager.setOnPageChangeListener(new ViewPager.SimpleOnPageChangeListener() {
#Override
public void onPageSelected(int position) {
actionBar.setSelectedNavigationItem(position);
}
});
// For each of the sections in the app, add a tab to the action bar.

// Create a tab with text corresponding to the page title defined by

#Override

}
#Override
public void setMenuVisibility(final boolean visible) {
super.setMenuVisibility(visible);
if (visible) {
run code here....
}
}
There are 2 ways in which you can do this:
From the fragment you can call isVisible();
Return true if the fragment is currently visible to the user. This
means it: (1) has been added, (2) has its view attached to the window,
and (3) is not hidden.
From the parent activity you can do the following:
public boolean checkIsFragVisible() {
Fragment yourFragment = getSupportFragmentManager().findFragmentById(FRAG_HOLDER_ID);
return yourFragment != null && yourFragment.isVisible();
}
I'm setting up a Tabbed ViewPager layout based on the wizard in Android Studio.

You missed the breaks inside the switch block which caused the fragment to always be SettingsFragment:
#Override
public Fragment getItem(int position) {
// getItem is called to instantiate the fragment for the given page.
// Return a PlaceholderFragment (defined as a static inner class below).
Fragment fragment = new Fragment();
Log.v("MainActivity","position:"+ position);
switch (position) {
case 0:
fragment = new TunerFragment();
// should insert break;
case 1:
fragment = PlaceholderFragment.newInstance(position + 1);
// should insert break;
case 2:
fragment = new SettingsFragment();
default:
break;
}
return fragment;
}
Get rid of mViewPager.setCurrentItem(1);. This is setting the current item to 1. This should be done in the adapter.
