Adding animation to icon of tabs - android

How to add animation on icon of Tab? Basically I want to just rotate icon of the tab when it is selected (rotation is from center point). Also, I want animation on the text of tab.
public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
private Toolbar toolbar;
private TabLayout tabLayout;
private ViewPager viewPager;
private int[] tabIcons = {
R.mipmap.ic_launcher,
R.mipmap.ic_launcher,
R.mipmap.ic_launcher
};
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
viewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.viewpager);
setupViewPager(viewPager);
tabLayout = (TabLayout) findViewById(R.id.tabs);
tabLayout.setupWithViewPager(viewPager);
setupTabIcons();
}
private void setupTabIcons() {
tabLayout.getTabAt(0).setIcon(tabIcons[0]);
tabLayout.getTabAt(1).setIcon(tabIcons[1]);
tabLayout.getTabAt(2).setIcon(tabIcons[2]);
}
private void setupViewPager(ViewPager viewPager) {
ViewPagerAdapter adapter = new ViewPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
adapter.addFrag(new OneFragment(), "ONE");
adapter.addFrag(new TwoFragment(), "TWO");
adapter.addFrag(new ThreeFragment(), "THREE");
viewPager.setAdapter(adapter);
}
class ViewPagerAdapter extends FragmentPagerAdapter {
private final List<Fragment> mFragmentList = new ArrayList<>();
private final List<String> mFragmentTitleList = new ArrayList<>();
public ViewPagerAdapter(FragmentManager manager) {
super(manager);
}
#Override
public Fragment getItem(int position) {
return mFragmentList.get(position);
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return mFragmentList.size();
}
public void addFrag(Fragment fragment, String title) {
mFragmentList.add(fragment);
mFragmentTitleList.add(title);
}
#Override
public CharSequence getPageTitle(int position) {
return mFragmentTitleList.get(position);

Android TabsLayout tabs with ImageView

I we know we can set any TextView for TabsLayout tabs without any problem, but at this time i dont have problem for setting TextView for tabs, but i want to have Image on tabs instead of text, for using this custom views i have this method:
private void setupTabIcons() {
inflater = LayoutInflater.from(context);
timeline = inflater.inflate(R.layout.joined_cafe_webs, null);
TabLayout.Tab contentJoinedCafeWebsTab = tabsLayout.getTabAt(0);
Objects.requireNonNull(contentJoinedCafeWebsTab).setCustomView(timeline);
grid_list = inflater.inflate(R.layout.user_channels, null);
TabLayout.Tab grid_listTab = tabsLayout.getTabAt(1);
Objects.requireNonNull(grid_listTab).setCustomView(grid_list);
post_items_view_pager.setCurrentItem(1);
...
}
joined_cafe_webs layout:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<ImageView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/grid_feeds"
android:layout_width="40dp"
android:layout_height="40dp"
android:layout_gravity="center"
android:background="?attr/selectableItemBackgroundBorderless"
android:padding="5dp"
android:tint="#color/grey_40"
app:srcCompat="#drawable/ic_time_line_black_24dp" />
after compile and run project on phone, tabs are empty

And
Add Icons+Text to TabLayout
You can use following code :
public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
private Toolbar toolbar;
private TabLayout tabLayout;
private ViewPager viewPager;
private int[] tabIcons = {
R.drawable.ic_tab_favourite,
R.drawable.ic_tab_call,
R.drawable.ic_tab_contacts
};
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
viewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.viewpager);
setupViewPager(viewPager);
tabLayout = (TabLayout) findViewById(R.id.tabs);
tabLayout.setupWithViewPager(viewPager);
setupTabIcons();
}
private void setupTabIcons() {
tabLayout.getTabAt(0).setIcon(tabIcons[0]);
tabLayout.getTabAt(1).setIcon(tabIcons[1]);
tabLayout.getTabAt(2).setIcon(tabIcons[2]);
}
private void setupViewPager(ViewPager viewPager) {
ViewPagerAdapter adapter = new ViewPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
adapter.addFrag(new OneFragment(), "ONE");
adapter.addFrag(new TwoFragment(), "TWO");
adapter.addFrag(new ThreeFragment(), "THREE");
viewPager.setAdapter(adapter);
}
class ViewPagerAdapter extends FragmentPagerAdapter {
private final List<Fragment> mFragmentList = new ArrayList<>();
private final List<String> mFragmentTitleList = new ArrayList<>();
public ViewPagerAdapter(FragmentManager manager) {
super(manager);
}
#Override
public Fragment getItem(int position) {
return mFragmentList.get(position);
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return mFragmentList.size();
}
public void addFrag(Fragment fragment, String title) {
mFragmentList.add(fragment);

How do I add icons to my tab layout activity

How do i add icons to the side of my page title in tab layout? This is a new created tab activity, so the code is already generated by android studio. I just don't know how to add icons beside my title. Thanks
Here is the code of my main activity.
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
mSectionsPagerAdapter = new SectionsPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
mViewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.container);
mViewPager.setAdapter(mSectionsPagerAdapter);
TabLayout tabLayout = (TabLayout) findViewById(R.id.tabs);
tabLayout.setupWithViewPager(mViewPager);
}
public class SectionsPagerAdapter extends FragmentPagerAdapter {
public SectionsPagerAdapter(FragmentManager fm) {
super(fm);
}
#Override
public Fragment getItem(int position) {
// getItem is called to instantiate the fragment for the given page.
// Return a PlaceholderFragment (defined as a static inner class below).
return PlaceholderFragment.newInstance(position + 1);
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return 4;
}
#Override
public CharSequence getPageTitle(int position) {
switch (position) {
case 0:
return "Schedule";
case 1:
return "News";
case 2:
return "Games";
case 3:
return "Standings";
}
return null;
You can add icons to tab layout by:
tabLayout.addTab(tabLayout.newTab().setText("Tab1").setIcon(R.mipmap.ic_launcher));
public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
private Toolbar toolbar;
private TabLayout tabLayout;
private ViewPager viewPager;
private int[] tabIcons = {
R.drawable.ic_tab_favourite,
R.drawable.ic_tab_call,
R.drawable.ic_tab_contacts
};
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
viewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.viewpager);
setupViewPager(viewPager);
tabLayout = (TabLayout) findViewById(R.id.tabs);
tabLayout.setupWithViewPager(viewPager);
setupTabIcons();
}
private void setupTabIcons() {
tabLayout.getTabAt(0).setIcon(tabIcons[0]);
tabLayout.getTabAt(1).setIcon(tabIcons[1]);
tabLayout.getTabAt(2).setIcon(tabIcons[2]);
}
private void setupViewPager(ViewPager viewPager) {
ViewPagerAdapter adapter = new ViewPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
adapter.addFrag(new OneFragment(), "ONE");
adapter.addFrag(new TwoFragment(), "TWO");
adapter.addFrag(new ThreeFragment(), "THREE");
viewPager.setAdapter(adapter);
}
class ViewPagerAdapter extends FragmentPagerAdapter {
private final List<Fragment> mFragmentList = new ArrayList<>();
private final List<String> mFragmentTitleList = new ArrayList<>();
public ViewPagerAdapter(FragmentManager manager) {
super(manager);
}
#Override
public Fragment getItem(int position) {
return mFragmentList.get(position);
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return mFragmentList.size();
}
public void addFrag(Fragment fragment, String title) {
mFragmentList.add(fragment);
mFragmentTitleList.add(title);
}
#Override
public CharSequence getPageTitle(int position) {
return mFragmentTitleList.get(position);
}
}
}

I want to set actionbar color and title in a fragment class which is in tablayout

This is my tabhost Activity and i want to set each fragment title at actionbar.My tabs are at bottom in xml and i want each tab title at top in actionbar.Can we write code in this tabhostActivity?Or can write any code in each fragment.Can anyone suggest any option for this?
public class TabHostActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
private Toolbar toolbar;
private TabLayout tabLayout;
private ViewPager viewPager;
private int[] tabIcons = {
R.drawable.hm_icon,
R.drawable.a_icon,
R.drawable.user_icon_white,
R.drawable.gear,
R.drawable.mail_icon_white
};
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_tabs);
toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
/* setSupportActionBar(toolbar);*/
/*getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);*/
viewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.viewpager);
setupViewPager(viewPager);
tabLayout = (TabLayout) findViewById(R.id.tabs);
tabLayout.setupWithViewPager(viewPager);
setupTabIcons();
permissionCheck = ContextCompat.checkSelfPermission(this,
Manifest.permission.WRITE_CONTACTS);
if (permissionCheck != PackageManager.PERMISSION_GRANTED) {
ActivityCompat.requestPermissions(this, new String[]{Manifest.permission.WRITE_CONTACTS}, REQUEST_READ_PHONE_STATE);
}
}
private void setupTabIcons() {
tabLayout.getTabAt(0).setIcon(tabIcons[0]);
tabLayout.getTabAt(1).setIcon(tabIcons[1]);
tabLayout.getTabAt(2).setIcon(tabIcons[2]);
tabLayout.getTabAt(3).setIcon(tabIcons[3]);
tabLayout.getTabAt(4).setIcon(tabIcons[4]);
}
private void setupViewPager(ViewPager viewPager) {
ViewPagerAdapter adapter = new ViewPagerAdapter(getSupportFragmentManager());
adapter.addFrag(new HomeMain(), "");
adapter.addFrag(new ChooseDefault(), "");
adapter.addFrag(new MyAccountActivity(), "");
adapter.addFrag(new UtitlityFragment(), "");
adapter.addFrag(new SMSFragment(), "");
viewPager.setAdapter(adapter);
}
class ViewPagerAdapter extends FragmentPagerAdapter {
private final List<Fragment> mFragmentList = new ArrayList<>();
private final List<String> mFragmentTitleList = new ArrayList<>();
public ViewPagerAdapter(FragmentManager manager) {
super(manager);
}
#Override

}
#Override

public void addFrag(Fragment fragment, String title) {
mFragmentList.add(fragment);
mFragmentTitleList.add(title);
}
#Override
public CharSequence getPageTitle(int position) {
return mFragmentTitleList.get(position);
}
}
You can try something like this to get your desired outcome.
YourTabLayout.addOnTabSelectedListener(new TabLayout.OnTabSelectedListener()
{
#Override
public void onTabSelected(TabLayout.Tab tab) {
int pos = tab.getPosition();
String title = YourFragmentTitle.get(pos);
YourActionBarObject.setTitle(title);
}
}
You can use the TabLayout.OnTabSelectedListener
mTabLayout.addOnTabSelectedListener(new TabLayout.OnTabSelectedListener() {
#Override
public void onTabSelected(TabLayout.Tab tab) {
final int position = tab.getPosition();
final String title = mFragmentTitleList.get(position);
mActionBar.setTitle(titleRes);
}
}

How can I remove the arrow beside app name? Also, my sliding tabs are working but when I click on any tab (tab1/tab2/tab3) the click event is not working. Why?

}
#Override
public CharSequence getPageTitle(int position) {
return null;
}
}
}
For the removal of the navigation-up button just remove the line:
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
You have to add this code to enable changes when tabs are selected:
tabLayout.addOnTabSelectedListener(new TabLayout.OnTabSelectedListener() {
#Override
public void onTabSelected(TabLayout.Tab tab) {
mViewPager.setCurrentItem(tab.getPosition());
}
#Override
public void onTabUnselected(TabLayout.Tab tab) {
}
#Override
public void onTabReselected(TabLayout.Tab tab) {
}
});
Also, as suggested by others above, just remove the line below to hide back arrow:
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
This is what I believe is missing from your code above; good luck!

Android hide tab in android.support.design.widget.TabLayout

Is there a way to dynamically hide and show a tab in android.support.design.widget.TabLayout
For example, click a button/view somewhere else in activity which hides or shows the tab in position 3 or shows/hides tab of a specific id.
I tried removing the tab tabLayout.removeTabAt(3); and add it back in but get an exception when swiping tabs as swipe still tries to go to the tab that has been removed
